Nice to know others (and not just me) have to fiddle with the mirrors on these VAG type set ups. I usually spray a little Inox, silicone or WD on a cotton bud stick and wipe small amounts on the bracket and the plastic covers before refitting. This helps reduce the friction when reinstalling, this seats them much easier. Thanks for taking time to share.

Try having the viper nut on loose while using the viper puller, helps a lot with not slipping and damaging the tread.
