It's been a while since we've had a Loneliness reaction. Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece! When it's snowy winter in Finland, there's hardly any sunlight during the season but the snow will amplify any light so it won't get too dark. What IS dark however, is the Finnish autumn. There's no snow and not many hours of sunlight so it can get very, very dark. Loneliness (Winter) is a slow, beautiful ballad with a bright winter atmosphere, but in stark contrast, their song Eternal Darkness (Autumn) is absolutely brutal, chaotic and menacing tale of how death views the mistake of life. It is full on black metal so it is not for everyone's tastes, but if you like that genre, I highly recommend it. To me, it's even better than Loneliness (Winter), but that's an unpopular opinion. When I did listen to this song for the first time, I cried the whole song. Later I foundation out that Jari wrote this after his father died. Love this song and feels like it was written for my dad that passed away also suddenly. 🥰🤘🫶🔥

Ever heard of Alexi Laiho?
It's hard to overstate what a great guitarist Alexi Laiho was, (frontman of Finnish death metal band Children Of Bodom), who tradically past away few years ago at the age of 41.
Nothing seals the deal like this video where he plays with his band- mate Roope Latvala, the Vivaldi classic theme with ease and doesn't break a sweat!
Alexi was at his 20's when making this video. I'm not asking you to react to it. Something you just need to experience.

This song is like winter descending.
This composition is from Wintersun's third studioalbum 'Forest Seasons' inspired by Vivaldi's "Four Seasons".
JARI: I've always been a fan of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and I've sometimes been thinking about covering that classical piece, but never really had the time.
So at that point I was like "Okay. I'm gonna do a kind of Four Seasons album myself.".
My previous comment refers to Vivaldi as well. Many Finnish metal musicians have stadied classic music and Vivaldi is highly appreciated.

Lovely, lovely reaction. Written after Jari's father's passing. One of my favorite Wintersun songs and the one that hits me the most emotionally. Jari has perfectly captured the pain of loss as well as the quiet and emptiness of winter as only a Finn can. I grew up in Northern Vermont close to the Canadian border and spent many hours as a young man in the woods in the middle of winter and there is no other silence and solitude like that, so this really takes me back to that place and emotion. Plus the lyrics expressing again the pain of loss and the questioning of why? Such a masterpiece.
Another piece of music that is similar but not as melancholy is Nightwish's Quiet as the Snow movement from All the Works of Nature Which Adorn the World. Highly recommend you check that out as it perfectly captures that same silence and solitude. The whole piece is Disc 2, the Nature part of the Human Nature album. A 30 minute orchestral piece that really shows Tuomas's compositional genius.
