I remember getting to play one of these at a summer jazz camp in 1982. I later figured out this was the keyboard Allan Zavod used on many Jean Luc Ponty albums. I would love to get these sounds onto a sampler to use. Such a unique sound.
I bought my first one in 1990 when I was 18 - sold it, regretted it ( like every single instrument I've ever sold ), and am picking up my second one in a few days . They're gaining in price here in GB - I payed £160 but it's worth every penny . The sound is unique, the weighted keys are super-expressive and your playing, particularly with the fx was revelatory . . . THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU - my ( third ) CS1X has a lil' fight on it's hands when she arrives ( I'm hiring a crane so I don't herniate myself ! ) . Many thanks from South London

decays at 1pm, both Piano 2 sounds enabled, use the mono out, detune very slightly between the two channels (only enough to make it beat slowly), add chorus and then a very good reverb and you'll have a starting point for a very good sound.
Fantastic! All the info I needed in one place! My work has one. It needs some TLC but I’m hoping I can convince them to let me take it off their hands since it’s been collecting dust since the 80’s. Just have to remember to bring my dolly to move it.
The outboard effects sound better on the CP30 than on guitars for which they were made! ...Great sounding CP30: ..with or without outboard effects!! 👍😎

Nice review.. Imho, one of the greatest electro instrumentals ever is Astradyne by Ultravox, Billy Currie's CP30 playing as well as his ARP Odyssey solos are sublime. Numan first started using the CP30 live on his 1980 Teletour, it features on his 1981 album, Dance, on tracks such as Cry, the Clock Said and is all over his 1982 album, I, Assassin. Can't believe his Wembley Farewell is 40 years ago. I was there middle night. Best concert EVER.
I totally agree about Astradyne and Billy Currie´s work on the Odyssey! It´s amazing and a total Signature Sound. Cool that you are in Wembley. I wish i had seen him, back in the days.
Always wanted one since I saw it in a music store in 1979. Definitely wanted one after seeing Ultravox in 1980. Never got one due to outrageous price they wanted for them - nearly $2k US and the weight. These things are CS-80 heavy. Bought a Yamaha CS-40M instead for like $1.2k which I still have.
Definitely the better choice in terms of options :-) the CS40m is a cool Synth. I sold mine in 2017 together with my Polymoog. I know, not the best decision
@@knobsswitches I was never a fan of the polymoog. Another synth that I was able to actually go into the music store and play back then. Kinda like an ARP Omni II. Divide-down oscillator... meh. But what do I know...
where are you located? US & Canadian uses 1.0 A SS-2, North Europe and BS 250V 1.0A T and Japan, S.Africa Australia 250V 1.0A (page 19 in the service Manual)
I love how it sounds, especially those combined deep sounds in the beginning! Would you be up for recording it for a simple instrument? I want to learn how to make Kontakt and Decent-sampler sample instruments and upload them to pianobook for free, and this would be an important instrument to save for posterity

Honestly doesn't take up much space unless you live or work in a crackerbox and also the depth of it allows for sp much stacking etc, so you can easily have like 20 pedals on this things, or other little synths, etc. It's pretty optimized for space actually. It's heavy, I'll give you that, but the leg room underneath and the "tabletop" space on top of it make it very good for stacking and ergonomically laying out your studio. It's well worth it, if the base sounds on this thing are your jam. It can only do what it can do, so you'd be hard pressed to replicate the full spectrum sounds of analog beauty on the cp-30 anyway else.
