To me it seemed like he was drawing a line. He didn’t want to overstep himself so he went back to being just the believer hua Chung. When he wants to be with Xie Lian and get close to him he called him GeGe. There are times in the book that he uses “my highness” in a respectful way in the beginning once he’s found out by Xie Lian, but is given a tactic approval to use Gege. 🥰 I think it’s sweet cause it shows their closeness. So when he uses”my highness” especially in this situation it feels sad. Like he’s trying to go back to that way of calling him because he “knows” that he will be rejected.
This is seriously one of my most favourite moment in the whole book. Hua Cheng must have been feeling so dejected and to suddenly be hugged by the love of his life and being accepted OMG I HAVE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW I FEEL BUT I LOVE THEM SO MUCH

A fear of rejection that is IRRELEVANT cuz Xie Lian loves him and his insecurities are all kinds of messed up, but I can hear it in his voice and it HURTS. 😭

(There was also Bai Wuxiang between that and scene on the vid but that's far longer story - and reason why Xie Lian's panicking at the start) Overall Mu Qing and Feng Xin were both worried abt Xie Lian's security around Hua Cheng and Bai Wuxiang, Hua Cheng was scared out of his pants abt Xie Lian's reaction (and his security around Bai Wuxiang) and Xie Lian himself with Hua Cheng was like "I thought a bit and I'm into anyway"

I haven't had the chance to read the novels yet (still being delivered), but my gosh, as a novice artist, I aspire to have at least half of your ability to put so much emotion into a silent animatic as you do. Just... holy foxes. The tiny movements, the eyes, the expressions, the pacing of the whole thing! It just works together so beautifully that I cannot stop watching it and pausing at every minor frame, discovering new details with it. I adore your work honestly.

The butterflies constantly flapping in the background is such a nice touch!!! And the way hc pulls away from xl and walks off is so fluid and the fade out to white is just aaaa this animation has so much personality i can’t stop gushing about it

I think Hua Cheng lost all his hopes of Xie Lian loving him back after his reaction to the "Gege, do you wanna get married?" on book 3. HC said it was just a joke but he was actualy completely heartbroken. But even after that he wd still be close to Xie Lian, help and protect him

I _finally_ got to read this chapter and oh my gods this is perfect. Every little frame has so much left unspoken. Hua Cheng's despair and Xie Lian's gentle acceptance and happiness. The official animators are not going to be able to do it better.

I haven't had the chance to read the novels yet (still being delivered), but my gosh, as a novice artist, I aspire to have at least half of your ability to put so much emotion into a silent animatic as you do. Just... holy foxes. The tiny movements, the eyes, the expressions, the pacing of the whole thing! It just works together so beautifully that I cannot stop watching it and pausing at every minor frame, discovering new details with it.
