It's good to see there are people who still step out of the box and try to learn something new rather than getting stuck into American culture like many of us do... Awesome. : )

Amen to that! I think we need to be more conscious of the opportunities we have to not only connect with our history but to educate ourselves! Thank you for watching!

+Ms. Black Expat I really wish I could. I speak Luganda but Kiswahili is much more convenient to speak.

Habari Sister! Great Job. I am so happy to see that you are having the time of your life there in Uganda. Immersion programs are great. Kiswahili is so easy. You can become a functional speaker in as little as six-weeks. You so good for educating us about this beautiful language. Continue having a great time!!! So proud of you!!!!! Kwaheri.

I need to really practice my Kiswahili. Do you speak the language?

Kidogo tu (a little). I have not spoken in many moons, though. But your in a great place to get all the practice you need. Your teachers, are they Ugandans? There are different dialects of Kiswahili. The Tanzanians speak the purest form especially Zanzibarians. They speak so eloquently. Have you been to Zanzibar yet?

In Uganda Kiswahili is also the working language of the Ugandan Armed Forces and it is taught in the army from a very early stage.

Kiswahili in Uganda is mainly spoken in Kiryandongo District where it is used as the main language of communication as the district consists of people from several different tribes- 80 % of people in Kiryandongo speak good swahili as opposed to in Buganda districts where swahili is hated .

Luganda is not the official language lol - it is the tribal language in the central region where the Kampala the capital is located. English is the official language. Swahili however, although not widely spoken in Uganda, it is widely spoken in East Africa. It is said that for every 5 Africans 1 speaks Swahili. It's a shame I don't even as I speak something as far flung as spanish. Kenyans and Tanzanians speak the best swahili - you could also learn it from rosetta stone; great job though hope you are feeling at home in the motherland - bless

Yes I realized I made a mistake by calling it that. Yes, I'm big on learning languages. Thank you for your care and concern. Yes, way more at home than I felt in the Arab and western world despite the fact that my immediate family is not here.

You can easily learn to be proficient with respect to Kiswahili: One piece of advice- learn the noun classes and grammar of Kiswahili first , then move on to its vocabulary.
