The audio on that midland is very good a clear signal and no crackells the best I have heard and that radio its portable and there is a few out been trying for years to get a good one but still trying but when the right one will be found .and at 13.4 it's working better.
Good little radios. I have a couple of these and they work well for what they are. I swapped out the mic for a K-PO 532 and an extension speaker and have had many good reports so far. Great video
Watched all the way to the end today to see the different route, it's decades since I've seen a manual crossing, I didn't know they still had them! I'm going to dust off my Portapack tomorrow 👍
East Midlands Ry Class 170. I see. I wondered which TOC served your area. Now I've seen one. I am amazed that there are still manually operated crossing gates in the kingdom. I don't think there are *any* left in North America and I would guess the last ones disappeared in the 1960s. Now, there are thousands with only "Crossbucks" and lights and thousands more with just the crossbucks ... but any gates are automatic. Cool - thanks for not editing that out! Also enjoyed the extra jaunt through Greylees.
Nice working little set, yet to watch the tune up video. Way behind with the videos, but I will catch up. That looked a ice route for testing CBs, loads of trees and a little bit longer, not saying it is further away from you as not to sure of the area, but nice test anyway.
hi 👋 richard I always enjoy your air test also best wishes to you and mr chippy from paul chapman at east sheen 73's also don't forget to send me my birthday card with your picture and mr chippy with your signature on it
Richard i keep meaning to ask what is the Pye transceiver under the midland. Many thanks for the ride about as i live in a concrete jungle Still looking in crystal stash no luck as of yet.
Hello Chris, It's a Pye F27AM base. I put it on 4M AM on the 'centre of AM activity ' channel about 4 years ago. I've yet to have a contact on it even though I have it switched on quite a bit! It does 25W. Made about 1969 & uses similar boards & modules found in the 25W version of the Pye Cambridge mobile set. All solid state receive, valved transmit/modulator. Richard
The only answer to that is to look at 'closed auctions' on Ebay so you see whsat they sold for. Obviously it differs as offerings can be radio 'body only' as a non worker through to a complete boxed set with all accessories zat £100+. Those telescopic aerials they came with in a non-broken condition seem to fetch £30+ on their own! Richard, UK
One of my favourite sets.
What an awful day, at least with the roadworks we get to see more of the local area. Good little radio that. m0ysu

It's the only manual level crossing I know of.

@@ukfmcbradioservicingTango21 Forgot to mention - for a repurposed speaker, the factory-original mic sounded pretty good!

@@ukfmcbradioservicingTango21 HMMMmmm to give you a contact i would need to drive 100 miles.
As of the topic of portapaks i am rebuilding a low band pye westminster portable.
That was more 'luggable'!
