I was waiting for you guys to come back to sense8! I think this episode was actually a christmas special, we waited like a year after season 1 for this and it was several months after before we got another episode.
Im so happy you guys watched this episode, this is so long and it came out on new years right before the rest of season 2 so some fans consider it a movie
i have rewatched sense8 6 times already but this is the first time i heard about the nudity clause for Khala. I literally had to go back to S1E6 to check, just to realize that it wasn't khala at the jacuzzi, just some random girl with black hair. Mind Blown.
I take back all my grouchy grumblings (because Sense8 and your reactions were my highlight); you have returned, strong as ever. You two and this show...I don't want it to end.
Sorry for the long comment but Capheus was my favorite character so I looked into the actor changing a LOT lol. After reading everything, I have a theory and I just wanna put it out there. here it goes: Jamie Clayton said the rumors about Aml Ameen leaving over transphobia aren't true, and I believe her if only because he probably knew what he was signing up for. Like Sense8 is about pride and queer celebration. I think they would've vetted the actors/the actors would only sign on if they agreed with the vision. Officially, Capheus' original actor left over a disagreement about where the character was going/creative decisions and I know that sounds like a made up PR thing but after watching season 2 I agree. I won't spoil it, but his character's storyline in season 2 is a big shift from season 1 and honestly I even found some of his scenes offensive. I think a lot of Sense8 fans are white (or at least not African or Black) and so I get why a lot of viewers may not have noticed the more offensive things the show does with his storyline in season 2, but I genuinely think the actor probably just didn't feel comfortable doing the scenes. He even quit *after* they'd already started filming, which shows he really tried to stay on and fight through whatever issues he had. Also, Aml's starred in other projects with LGBTQ+ themes (I May Destroy You is really good!!). I know that doesn't necessarily mean he's accepting, but I always felt bothered by the rumors about his transphobia, especially after his old coworkers publicly said nothing happened. Even though Sense8 has more nuanced LGBTQ+ representation, the way it handles race isn't always sensitive, but that gets overlooked because the show does so many other things right. It's obviously an amazing show but it's important to remember all of the show's writers were white despite the story literally being about a global phenomenon. That means that if any of the nonwhite actors had issues with their story, they'd have to bring it up to supervisors that didn't look like them, didn't understand where they were coming from, didn't have the same experience, etc. Explaining why something hurts your feelings or why it's offensive is already hard to do and I can only imagine how difficult it would be in the middle of a television production. Again, Aml had already filmed several scenes! There's one in particular in season 2 that I have to skip every time I rewatch it! Obviously this is just my theory on why he left but I think it's a valid one! A few of my friends agree that season two was a bit racially insensitive but I've never seen anyone online mention it (Again, I think it's only because a lot of the fans are white, so it's totally possible a lot of watchers didn't even notice.). Regardless I definitely think they could've done more to shut down the transphobia rumors because obviously a lot of people still think it might me true. [Rant over lol]
Hmm! interesting points. I'm curious, could you point out the scenes in season two that bother you? I actually thought they did a better job with capheus' character in sn2 compared to sn1. He gets more plot and there's a lot of setup for interesting directions for him. .. so yeah .. I'd love to be enlightened a bit more on that. ( PS: as an actual Kenyan , I hated some potrayals in season 1. the villain with the blackened teeth, the fact that most of the Nairobi they show is one particular outskirt , etc etc... but it's fun to hear Swahili from the other actors, season two capheus doesn't sound Kenyan at all.... )
Yay! More Sense8. This time the special, as it was named when it was released. This one is a true gem. It was released on its own before the season 2 proper. Yes, Capheus was recast, and they had kind of fun with it. Right! "We know!" We do love Hernando, yes. Lito in this episode. I love what they did with him in this special. Sun is so perceptive. And maybe more direct than she should be in her situation. And then there is Agent Bendix, or is it Bendicks? My head canon is that the birthday of all the sensates is 8/8/88. Daniela at Lito's mother's place gets me every time. Talk about chosen family. Then again, this whole episode is about the chosen family. Capheus, Sun, Lito, Wolfgang, Will and Riley, Nomi, and even Kala. Also Bug's reaction to the invitation is priceless. So much happens here that it is impossible to cover it all without getting **really** long winded 😉

@@luanadelrey18 yeah, the only one who made a public comment was the actress for Nomi . And she expressed that she was very VERY happy about working with the new Capheous. And I think she also alluded to the previous actor making transphobic comments...so yeah, that's the only confirmation we have but honestly that's enough for a lot of fans to conclude that some shit absolutely went down and it wasn't JUST "creative differences" as we were told. He most likely said some homophobic / transphobic comments.

And they were wanting to change that for season 2 and he wasn't comfortable with that, clearly. No fr, I was watching all the oppressive phrases go by for each character and was legitimately triggered by some of them because of how traumatic they are and then “pig” LMAO. I fully started laughing even though I was on the brink of a breakdown 💀
To be fair - and before I play devils advocate, ACAB ACAB ACAB - the words shown for each character were words that were specific and personal to them. So while Pig is not a word nearly on the same level as any of the others, to Will it means something. I think these reactors said something that I agree with. Something along the lines of living a privileged life doesn't mean you haven't experienced hard ship, only that you haven't experienced the hardship that less privileged people have. Will's word isn't a slur nor is it even close, however in the context of his life its likely one of the words that he must hate the most - likely because it is a reminder that despite him being one of the guys who really does want to protect and serve, he is still just as bad and complicit in the actions of the corrupt organization that he joined to try and help. It's wills word because it's true. He is a pig in the first season. He rubs shoulders with people who think he should have let a child die because he was black. He's the son of one of those people. We actually see waves of him beginning to realize that he isnt able to actually help people as a police officer in the episodes leading up to his suspension from the force. TL;DR It makes sense that Pig is Will's 'hated word' word because it's he know I true and earned and deserved and he likely has some complicated feelings about that truth.
If I recall correctly, the OG actor for Capheus was transphobic towards both Lana and Jamie. Also, I think he wasn't willing to do gay scenes so, after a lot of issues, they had to recast him since he was giving a bad light to a Queer show
