Being a classically trained musician from a young age I was completely mesmerized when their music first hit the air waves.
When Bonham died and they decided that there wasn't anyone else who could sit on his stool I was, completely and utterly devastated. They're the ONLY band that affected me that way. It's VERY much like missing your favorite grandmother, wishing she/they was still here.
I NEVER tire of listening to their timeless music, of which no other band can nor will ever be able to match THAT chemistry, never mind their composition and arrangement.

  • @curtjohansen5742

Living 10 miles down the road from Knebworth it was hard not to say no. Tickets were easily obtained back in the day. I recall hundreds arriving the night before and the early hours. There was some confusion on the first weekend. A fence was broken through and people ran across fields to gain access to the main area. I reckon the organisers let people in early for safety reasons. Memorable times I'll keep forever. Even though they came on late Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood turned up with their band the New Barbarians. 👍

Peart was Definitely better than Bonham--and I think that Ian Paice was Far Superior to Bonham, as well...
I would compare the "Machine Head", "Made in Japan", "Burn", and "Made in Europe" albums of Paice to any of Bonham's playing...
      I'm Not a Drummer.
But, from listening to Ian Paice for just a few minutes on one of his many videos, he is Obviously a Formally Educated Drummer--he was telling his "beginning drummer audience members" the importance of learning The Rudiments: "paradiddles and flammadiddles", etc.
Ian told them that it was one thing to just have some fun banging around on a set of drums with some friends--but quite another if you actually wanted to play advanced drumming, which requires dedication, discipline, and study!
      Excellent Advice, Ian Paice!

Page wanted Plant to sing with them, but Plant said he would do it, only if his friend John Bonham could come along. They did need a drummer, so, from there, it's history.

They actually went to see him play, where Page was blown away..John had promised his wife that he wouldn't run off with Plant anymore because, according to her it always led to no good...So initially Page and Grant called several times with no luck. So eventually Grant would send telegraphs, a common way of communicating in England then...I believe that eventually Plant and Page showed up at his house and convinced him to come aboard...after the 1st session which started off at Pages house, " Train Kept a Rollin" "they were all in shock on how good they sounded " john Paul Jones....
