  • Every time I get a chance to ride w Kane, he's learned something new, and this time is no different! The Raley is now on his list of tricks and he wanted to do one over me, so bring it on! We had some technical difficulties and didn't capture the audio during some of the edit but didn't want to let some of this great footage go on the editing room floor.

    Hi Shaun. I happened upon your video by chance. Wow, What talent. Both of you!. I am a 66 year old woman who ended up getting a pontoon boat and within a week I got really bored. LOL. So, I bought myself a tube. Bored again. Got myself a knee board. Again, yes bored. I ended up getting a wakeboard with no idea how to use one. My friends thought I was crazy and I would probably kill myself or end up in the hospital. After many fails, I taught myself how to get up and ride and feel really at home on the board. I absolutely am in love with wakeboarding! Yes, heads turn when they see this old woman cutting it up on the board. LOL. I can ride switch but have never jumped a wake or have done anything spectacular. After all, I'm behind a pontoon boat. I subscribed to your channel because I have never seen anyone so personable as you in this sport and who is completely at home on the water. Thank you Shaun, I am so grateful to have seen this and now more of your videos. Thank you!

    Love all your videos, your a legend and that kid rocks! I have been wakeboarding for roughly 6 years and lost my leg in a motorcycle accident 5 years ago. I still wakeboard and pull wake to wake jumps and a few other tricks but my goal is to pull off a tantrum this season. I also wake surf and almost have the 360 down. Start off slow, get used to the board (the feel of the boots etc..) maybe on dry land is good. Then you need to figure out if you are going to have your left or right foot in front. When you get in the water, have the rope on top of the board in between the bindings. When the boat starts, (staying in a neutral position, not with the right or left foot forward) wait until you are above the water to turn the board and put the leg in front. It takes a few tries. Good luck. Hope this helped!

      Arms straight knees bent let the boat pull you up, that's our saying on the lake...I got it first try idk how but my dad went like 5 mph and let me get the feel of the boat pulling me...and when ur ready just let the boat pull u up...if u try pulling yourself up u will bend your arms and fall you just gotta be confident DO NOT TRY OULLING YOURSELF UP if u do u will never get up

    Just started wakeboarding 2 weeks ago at 33 years old. I can get out of the water every time, but staying off my butt or face is a other story. Had a bad toe side crash in choppy water outside of the wake. Hit my face so hard I had an instant headache. I'll keep at it. I don't want to be able to do big tricks, but being able to safely carve and maybe a wake to wake someday. Love your videos

I snapped it jumping over a 5mph bouy that i mis-calculated. Do you have model that matches that description from around 1996-1998? I'm super curious which one it is now! I'll check out your new shop vid :)

I myself only rode for 7 years and I wasn't even competing , yet I basically have to psych myself out just to stand up after kneeling because my knees are toasted! Def thankful for the many years of big air. I try to stay active, stretch sometimes but not as much as I should. Play w my kids when I can and eat pretty well. And when I do ride, I don't just go for it if I haven't ridden in a while. I ease myself back into riding by taking it easy and then go for it after a few sets at least. But, I also don't ride massive wakes all the time.

    Shaun noticing the wake is always rounded well on the side he’s approaching from and frothy on the landing side. Is there some amount of driver input to produce this clean approach wake?

    • @Shaun.Murray
      @Shaun.Murray  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Usually happens when the rider cuts out pulling the boat over a little since the tower is a big lever. Even a lil guy can do that. When going straight and no one is pulling on it, it's perfectly level, but it's pretty crazy how it happens. Usually w big wakes bc they're so tall.

    • @griffingeode
      @griffingeode 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having a tall tower, skylon, rope attachment point increases leverage. Like he said, it's the pull against the boat affecting the wake

    Do you need a certain type of boat to jump wakes? Would a pontoon be okay to wakeboarrd with?

    • @freecommercial
      @freecommercial 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you can pull a wakeboard at 20mph you can wakeboard behind it but there’s not gonna be any wake to jump you’re better off skiing

    • @sunniejones897
      @sunniejones897 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      a pontoon isn’t going to create nearly enough wake to do good jumps. the most you’re going to get is a little bump. invest in a wake-setter, good for wakeboarding and wake surfing totally worth it

      It is a boat designed to do that.. it has baffles in the back that hold water do the wake is more on one side than the other.. the water can be moved from one side to the other.. or however they want to do it. The boat controls the wake.. or that's how mine was... this is a much larger boat so I assume that is how.. this kid is awsome.. I live in Alabama.. wondering what lake he is on..

    • @Shaun.Murray

      Learning to stay connected through the rope is something that takes some folks a little longer to get. Has he tried belly boarding? (Riding a wakesurfer on his stomach) My kids still like to do it and they can wakeboard. You can ride right next to him and then have him go to his knees while still keeping the handle in contact w the board w his hands pushing it into the board. Once on his knees, the biggest part of this is learning to lift the handle farther from the board, which is moving the connection point away from the board. This is where it may be wobbly for him but tell him that it can take at least 3 times for most people, just for that boost of confidence if he gets it right away and if not, he can try again. Once up on his knees w the handle up, make sure he can get his chest up. Let him stay there for a while, if not a few days doing this. My girls do this 4 kids at a time. It's a rope maze but they love it. Eventually, most kids want stand up and he will too potentially. Go w just one foot and one knee (drop knee). Keeping the handle still here is key!
      The move of going from 1 foot to 2 feet is the hardest part and not everyone gets it. Even if he doesn't get it or try it, he has still gotten a feeling of what it's like to be pulled w the handle and have something under him.
      Then, the wakeboard. Tell him these 2 things. 1. Keep your bottom on the board. Don't stand up at all. Stay down. 2. Keep the handle still. Keep your arms straight. Don't pull on it and don't let your chest dive forward. Shoulders should barely roll forward from when leaning back in the water.
      A good way to get this initial start is to have the rope similar length to a wakesurf rope, 15ish feet. If you have a tower, the upward pull can help. When doing this keep the the boat speed really slow. 8ish mph.
      When pulling him up, super light on the throttle. It shouldn't be much more than a fast idle to get a kid on top of their board.
      The boat speed when he's on full length shouldn't exceed 10mph for a while. They usually ask for more speed when they need it.
      Let me know how it goes!
      You can tag me on instagram @shaunmurray in the post of him getting up or belly boarding when it happens.
