I feel Henry VII is undervalued. He was made of steel, intelligent, an actual soldier, merciful when he could have been expected to be brutal, and frugal. He became paranoid and greedy, but he kept his country strong and solvent. It seems he and Elizabeth of York had, at least, an affectionate marriage, which, given the beginning, could have been much more fraught. Henry VII's reign wasn't the romantic drama of his son's so he isn't as interesting a subject for shows, but he left a prosperous England for his son. I think Elizabeth I had a good dose of her Tudor grandfather in her, as well as her parents.
@anneboleynfiles: Madame, it has just dawned on me, that all 3 generations of Reigning Tudors, both Henrys and The Gloriana, suffered paranoic state of mind in their twilight years.... is it merely genetic, or the times They'd lived in might have contributed to it? Or 50/50?
@Sabeaa I think context is key. These were harsh times when people were looking for any sign of failure and as they aged, they became vulnerable and people focused on their potential successors.
@@anneboleynfiles thank you for answering so fast :) I've been your fan for circa 2÷3 years, silently, so to speak, then I decided to become a supporter, and now I 've summoned the courage to ask a question directly :)
Wow. Henry VIII died on his Dad's birthday. I didn't realize that. Henry VIII was a Renaissance Herod the Great executing people for the pettiest reasons.
@ I may be wrong, but I believe that Margaret Beaufort and Elizabeth of York had a pretty good working relationship, with some scuffles here and there. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I read that...maybe the Anne Boleyn Files?
I think it’s fascinating that Henry died on his father’s birthday. And of course that Edward succeeded on the same day. I think dates really matter.
Henry Vlll Born of roses, one white, one red. Yet in his heart no bloom emerged, only thorns, twisted and deadly.

I find Henry VII fascinating. I'd highly recommend the work of Nathen Amin on him.
I think you're right.

Always enjoy your videos, didn't realize what an interesting day this was in Tudor History. As always, well done.
Great talk. Nicely condensed but lots of important Tudor information.
Thanks Claire.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing, Claire! Three major events on the same date. Thanks for your great videos.
Thank you!
Certainly quite a diverse, but significant, legacy that each of these monarchs have!!
Didn't realize Henry VIII died on what would have been his father's 90th birthday!
Henry VII was lucky he survived birth with his mother being only 13!
And wasn’t Margaret lucky as well.
Yes! 13! It really doesn't bear thinking about!
Thank you for the information always brilliant ❤
Thank you!

Yes and it's weird with the numbers 1457 and 1547!
@anneboleynfiles so true.
Excellent ty
Thank you!!
Wow!! Giving birth at 13😮
Margaret Beaufort was quite a woman. Strong willed, determined and fiercely protective of her son Henry.
Yes. She couldn’t have any more children after that.
And her husband, a grown man, impregnated a child. I can't imagine that poor little girl, widowed, giving birth. But she was the ultimate survivor.
@ yes. To be honest, though, I wouldn’t want her for a mother in law!

My astrology riddled brain immediately went: “Henry VII was an Aquarius…. That makes so much sense.” 😂
