Interesting take on the outside stresses. I flip it around, regardless of family, work or whatever the cricket pitch for me is the place where for six hours on the Saturday where you can escape these things. If you're batting or fielding you're concentrating every ball, on the sideline you're bantering with the teammates. Then when it's done go back to the responsibilities and wait another week until the sanctuary of the pitch.
That works in theory, but some of life's challenges can't be forgotten so easily. I do agree though, when batting, or even facing one ball at a time, all the concentration needs to be on that moment.
Thanks for the comments. For me it's not so much that I'm consciously thinking of the "stresses", it's more that my mind and body still feel the tension from the "stresses" which affects my batting. I guess it's also different for different people. Shane Warne comes to mind...
So annoying when the patreons post spoiler comments days before the video is live for the rest of us…these will ALWAYS be the top comment on the video, because they are posted first…meaning it is visible WITHOUT clicking on the comments section! Giving away the outcome of the video…

its fine it happens . but gareth i think your over defensive in the start due to which you allow the bowlers to put pressure on you . Maybe a little bit of semi Bazball next game??😅😅
After getting bowled for 9 after around 10 overs yesterday, that sort of innings is very fresh in my mind. Put way too much pressure on myself and my wicket and couldn't find any rhythm.
Gareth seems like a nice guy and a good teammate but he needs some more release shots especially on the leg side, I have noticed that almost everything on leg is a LB.
I could feel your frustration and the longer you scratched around the harder it seemed to get for you. Forget you are wearing a camera and just keep giving yourself some good 'positive' talk in the middle. Great content as always
Thank you for sharing mate, even though you had a bad day and it was a loss, it still made great content. Your advice is bang on and hopefully it helps you too!
Love that extra life you got when you and/or your partner ran you out - not completely clear what the mixup was or whose fault, but you were gone for all money until the other team gifted you a freebie. (not actually having a go at you, just genuinely enjoying luck smiling on you so blatantly)
Hey Gareth... the line and length they were bowling at you were pretty tight... I notice your go to movement always seems to be down the pitch ... perhaps practice your backing away or moving across the stumps depending on where your strengths lie... will make the bowlers not know where to bowl at you and make them err in line and length... thanks for the vid!
You don't deserve any stick in the comments. It's the ebb and flow of cricket that one week you middle it beautifully and the next week you can't get it off the square. I've seen enough of your innings to know that a score, indeed a run of scores is just around the corner. Just believe in your process and all will be good. Loving the content as always.
Hey Gareth - sorry about the slightly patchy form; have you ever considered taking a middle-and-leg or even leg stump guard? I think it would open you up more and you might find that you don't miss out on as many scoring opportunities. Maybe worth a shot. (Speaking from experience).
Thanks Dave. Possibly, but in this case I think it's more mental than anything. I've scored plenty runs batting on middle. Hopefully can get back in the runs soon 💪
sir if you dont mind I could give you a suggestion. As you are no able to score runs focus on doing knocking by having someone do throwdowns with their hand it would really boost your confidence. I do knocking when ever I don't score runs it helps me a lot. Hoping to see you score runs again.
As much as I love how you bat and I generally think the standard has increased 7 off 40 balls was a hard watch. You are better than that and you know that. Looked liked off the field problems affected you.
Just stick with the basic approach of attacking half volleys and half trackers and defend and deflect the rest. Not many have the ability to do much more than that, particularly at club level. The only other advice I would offer for consideration would be to forget about commentating for the viewers whilst you’re at the crease. This can only hinder your ability to lock into the focus and concentration needed. Other than your communication with your batting partner, nothing else is required whilst you’re on the ground.
Cricket is a great way to deal with life's stresses. I find when I'm out on the crease my head is totally empty of anything other than the ball and where I'm going to hit it. You were doing the right thing, lots of good balls that you shouldn't have played at, and got unlucky that the bad balls were going to fielders. Another day and you've hit 50 playing exactly the same style of cricket.
Hard luck mate better try next time Gareth 😊😅 good luck next game please can you post on the non patron side because I have been waiting for a video for 2 weeks now and I don't like giving personal information so please post here I know it might take a while. One more thing if what is happening in December please don't post it on February its just an example like you did your India tour then you posted cricket on ice wich was in February but I still love the effort.
You seem to be more of the Geoffrey Boycott sort of a batter. Your natural instinct seems to be to block and you are very very cautious with the running.
Bad luck in your innings, I think you're right about the mind being an important part of the process, but the fact you're identifying it is as something to work on is a good sign. One of the guys you were facing (the leg-spinner who suffered the wacky over-throw) is a really good bowler for this level and did well for Corsham in the top division in WEPL. He didn't wear those shades back then though... I'd say good luck for tomorrow but my Corsham loyalty won't let me, either way hopefully I'll see you there!
@@jw23-g1kI agree. He needs to improve quite a bit for this standard. The standard at the other club he was at was a fine level for him though, this level is a big big step up

Hey Gareth, in a situation like this, I'd try to simplify batting us much as possible. Since you have the technique and everything. Maybe throw the kitchen sink at everything short and wide, or just anything wide of off-stump to try and get some quick runs and psychologically get some confidence back.
40 balls 7 runs that's a good one 👍, but don't try to do defense all time bro front foot won't help u all time some times back foot will work for timing Shots
