You know all jokes aside they should’ve incorporated mystery boxes in Sonic. It would’ve made it more fun and interesting. Maybe a good challenge.

This might actually be a fun game mechanic: The monitor can give you something really good, or really bad.
Why not just call it Sonic's Monitor Prize Randomizer?
That was the idea of the "?" monitors when they first showed up in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Genesis. More specifically in 2-Player Competition mode. That mode's version of Emerald Hill, Casino Night, and Mystic Cave have those monitors scattered throughout the zones and the results were random. You could get a ring, an extra life for yourself, an extra life for your opponent, a teleporter that swaps your position, or a "Robotnik" that causes you to lose all rings. The teleporter item is a double-edged sword. It can either screw you over or win you the round, depending on when you get it. If you get it while in the lead, you get screwed. But if it's obtained while trailing behind, you'll turn the tables on whomever you're playing against. The "?" monitors got a call back in Sonic Manis Plus in its Encore Mode but with a different effect. That effect being randomizing switching up what two characters you control, assuming you have all five available in the lineup.

When I saw this part 1:08 I thought Steven bubbled Sonic.
I think he would’ve been better off with just the one ring instead of going through all that insanity. 😂 But at least he got rewarded for his suffering.

Now I'm starting to see Sonic's future of "Sonic's wisp calamity"
I can imagine a few things that happen.
-A use of cyan laser causes Eggman to be able to see without his glasses.
-Yellow Drill turning Sonic into a yellow Mecha with a huge drill for an arm.
-Orange rocket sending Sonic into space resulting in Galatic Nova's destruction.
-Burst just causes Sonic to catch fire.
-Blue Cube just turns Sonic into a Minecraft character skin.
-Pink spikes ends up killing Megaman when he touches the Spike form of Sonic.
-Green Hover somehow makes Sonic a bit more nosy, making him look over at what tails was doing, aka hovering.
- in Nega Frenzy, Sonic eats a lot but it results in sonic getting fat like in sonic 2 XL.
-Violet Void just forms a portal into Subspace and Sonic just attacks Tabuu.
-Black Bomb just blows up Sonic.
-Ivory Lightning ends up electrocuting Sonic.
