I just got my first Manix2 LW, the translucent blue scales with the CTS BD1N blade steel. I love it! You're right, it fits the hand perfectly. The Spyderco quality is awesome and the sharpness was incredible. Mine was on sale for 106.
I didn’t like it too much at first but it didn’t take long before I fell in love! Haha. It’s an excellent edc knife and can be hard used at only 3oz. I need the REX45 & Cruwear next. Haha. Thanks bud!👊😂
I just got a newer Maxamet LW and took it apart. To my surprise it came with a ceramic ball like the new Magnacut version has. I’m glad Spyderco got with the times on upgrading the ball.
Yea man it’s a full sized knife for sure. It’s a lot of knife at a low weight to length ratio. Spyderco should use the Ball Barring Lock in new models. It’s a damn good lock. Thanks man! Take it easy!👊💪

Just ordered the spy steel version. Got it on sale and still the most ive spent on a knife so far. Im thinking ill like it alot. I have a lady pbug and recently got a dragonfly in a previous sale. Neat trio of spydies me thinks. Thanks for the video

Great video, and I agree: the Manix 2 LW is magic. The combination of blade beefiness, light weight, ergonomics, and steel choices is pretty unique. It may not be the absolute best at any one of those things- but I don't think anything else is as strong in all of those categories across the board as this knife. In a sense, it's almost like the "Magnacut of knives" insofar as it's so uniquely well balanced.
Yup, I have heard mixed reviews of the manix 2. My lock stick did start to break in a little bit never got totally smooth. I actually decided to send it back and get a stretch 2 instead, for the lock stick and the fact I couldn't find any aftermarket scales to mod it. I like customizing my knives too much lol
Hey Frank! So I just received my MagnaManix and of course you do need special scales or another regular G10 Manix 2 to be able to use the ball cage piece, which is slightly different. So basically you would just be swapping the blade. I thought before disassembly it was going to work with my AWT scales. Hope Original Goat releases those scales soon.

I don’t think anyone has scales for this yet but OG has them on the burner . Just ordered some AWT s for the Native 5 maxamet . Modding gets expensive but sometimes there’s some blemished available at a discount . I’m right on the fence in getting a Rex 45 . I keep telling myself the S30v is really good and good enough becasue it is imo .

On the chart Knife Steel Nerds made about MagnaCut, he had it on the chart at around the same level of edge retention as SPY27, but much higher toughness. I wonder if that info pans out for how Spyderco does with their MagnaCut (especially for the Manix 2 LW) - part of the reason I'm curious is the MagnaCut Manix LW is ab $10 cheaper than the SPY27 one. So, assuming the edge retention is comparable, the MagnaCut is a better buy, right?
Hey man glad you reached out about this. I need to do a video on how the Manix Magnacut and Demko Freereign Magnacut has held up over the last 3 months. No joke I accidentally hit the edge of the Manix Magnacut on the top lip of a couple soda cans when cutting the box. There’s no visible damage. My Pacific Salt in H1 is black coated and it doesn’t get more rust resistant than that. I think this magnacut should be black coated too, would look better I agree
Is the ball cage spring coated on the Magnacut version? Salt series usually coats the steel for corrosion resistance. Also, is the ball bearing ceramic or steel?
On the new Magnacut Manix there is no coating on the spring, and it has a steel ball. I’m not sure what steel the spring or barring is but I’ll do some research. Thanks man! Take it easy.👊🤘

I used to say it was either the PM2 or Manix 2 LW that are the best overall EDC knives. I always wanted a bigger version of the PM2 (now we have it in the awesome Military 2) and was pissed when I heard about the Para 3 but once I got a LW Para 3 I have to say it kicked the PM2 out of the top spot. Now I just ordered a new Manix 2 Salt and I have a feeling that it'll become my new favorite. I don't like the bright yellow scales at all but that's easily changeable with Rit Dye 👌
Hey, man, don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure there isn't n aftermarket ball cage that works with the lightweight model. I looked for one as well but they all said they don't work with the lightweight cause of the different handle.
No joke, I had some fairly bad lock stick on mine so I wanted to get all those internals swapped out but all I could use was a softer spring and ceramic ball upgrade which helped a ton!
@@stewy1412 You’re the second person to say they had bad lock stick. I’ve had other people say they had bad fit/ finish and horrible action. Mine has a slightly off plunge grind and jankie jimping but the action is on point. Haha. You never know it seems. I still like it and I like the Cruwear PM2 as well.

The Manix 2 is one of my favorite knives of all time, both the regular and lightweight versions. My absolute favorite Manix 2 is the translucent blue lightweight. Mine has an S90V blade in it! Take a look on my channel for The Manix 2 Project. I figured out how to take them apart and make new hardware to convert them to screw together so that they can easily be modified. Figures I do that and then Spyderco starts releasing screw together versions 😂
I have an honest question…What is it about the lightweight that you like? I have been circling the Manix 2 for years but it seems the lightweights are taking over. Can you mod the lightweights or does the lack of liners make it difficult?
There are no liners but there are still a few mods that can be done. The lock can be tuned with the same ceramic ball and replacement springs that you can get for the regular Manix 2. The advantages of the lightweight are well light weight and a very secure grip. The tip is also more robust than the one on the PM2 and PM3. It's just a better knife IMHO. I love the Manix 2 regular, xl, and lightweight. If you do get a lightweight make sure it is screwed together, not pinned. At this point in time I would not buy a pinned knife. I do have a series on my channel dealing with this issue and how to convert the knives to screw together.@@btuthill9653
Easily my favorite knife and I have lots. From pm2 para 3 endura bugout 940 griptilian delica etc. I always gravitate back to my manix lw

You will like it. Spy27 is a good steel I think they should use more often. It’s very similar to S35 & S45. You can’t go wrong with a Spyderco.👊
