I hope this comes across as constructive criticism: I think that the thumbnails of these video essays should be a bit different than the usual video where you report news related to League of Legends.
I'm telling you because a video like this one, that surely took you more hours to write and edit, would be sad, and counterproductive, if it was mistaken for a news video (for the similarity of the thumbnails). Because a video essay can be seen even after years whereas videos related to news are more temporary.
Of course you should still keep your style for the thumbnails (maybe a bit more sofisticated?) but I clicked on this video just because I saw it was 24 minutes long.

Agreed. And there’s a tonal inconsistency throughout a lot of the video - the talking cat avatar is fine and cute for less serious videos, but the dramatic music playing for a lot of this just felt like a weird fit. The tone of voice of the narration also didn’t seem to match the weight of the script that was written. I get that Ryscu doesn’t do whole video essays like creators like HBomb, and I know that some of these suggestions require more time and effort, but I think that this topic and the quality of the research deserves to have as much attention put into the presentation as it was clearly put into the preparation.

Chinese economy kinda mafia like.. so not that shocking. It’s like old mafia America … but tbf America is turning this way too. It’s more of a cultural shift where: “we don’t gaf how you get your money, as long as you have it.” So culture shifts to be individualistic over collective and that likely leads to more scamming behaviors because “I care about me more than the integrity of society/organized human events. So I’ll cheat, even if it makes the experience worse for others, because it makes it better for me.”

i don't watch too much league but even i get to see rampant match fixing and betting scams, when i watch faker (or other t1 members, but especially faker) stream solo queue games, because these people ddos his teammates or get into his games themselves to purposefully throw them all the time, as both his competitive and solo queue games get bet on in certain countries. it was bad, then slowed down when he called it out to riot some years ago, and now it's gotten bad again, and for the past stream or two he almost can't play solo queue on stream at all. the point is, it's everywhere. no one can escape it. but banning betting is probably not in riot's interest either. i don't know what can really be done.

    • @EarlHare
      @EarlHare 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

Riot can't entirely ban betting on their events. The betting is being run legally by third parties. What they can do is ban gambling sponsorships from any competition affiliated with Riot(which they did) , Permaban anyone from their events found to be partaking in gambling fraud(which they do), and also press legal charges when they have the receipts. (Hard to get receipts!!!)
Sucks that they just fired a bunch of people, that's why this problem is getting bigger. Riot are weak, they have significantly less manpower now, this problem will only get worse.

Sports in general are often unsustainable outside of the few top teams, let alone esports.
Most sport leagues have some form of revenue sharing so that the big guys can drag up the little guys along for the ride and the owners are multi0billionaires who can stomach losing millions every season because the franchise itself is sort of like a cool toy to show off to their friends. It's also a fact that the main source of revenue for a lot of sports leagues is actually broadcasting rights, which is money that esports never get to touch due to them being on TH-cam or Twitch and not major networks.

    • @Cancoillotteman
      @Cancoillotteman 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

A sustainable format could be found in Formula One where the teams revenues is basically a redistribution of a share of broadcasting earnings (Concorde Agreements).
Now of course Formula One is not directly profitable for the teams because of the technology involved. But I think RIOT could go a long way by redistributing broadcasting, sponsoring and competition related skins sales revenues.
In the end it would even erve them as the game obviously would benefit from a healthier pro environment.

I'm 15 minutes into the video. So far, every single LoL example is about Chinese players. Also, the fact that Iron Wolves players weren't punished and roster is still playing with this Chinese duo is really demoralizing. I can't imagine how the rest of the roster feels being forced to play the rest of the season with this matchfixing wintraders. Also, legit honest hard working Chinese players are now forever tied with possible wintrader tag because of the few scums that happen to be from the same country.

An idea how to fix a part of the payment issues:
Riot has minimum match payments. So when an org is signing up for a split, it's clear how many games there are, therefore it's clear how many match payments there have to made. How about the orgs need to deposit that money upfront with Riot who then pay the players directly? Riot has no incentive to not pay the players, and it can guarantee that the payments are made timely and in its entirety, while the upfront payment should dissuade any org from signing for a split when they don't have the intention to play and pay their players and staff.

Leading to the publishers just DMCA notice and not allowing tournaments. 2. Fantastic video! I'd love to see you cover the current Viet match fixing scandal like this, though that would probably take a while since it's kinda huge and will likely take a while for the dust to settle.
The TSM section was so hard to watch as a former fan, even back in the early days when Dyrus first replaced Rainman it was almost embarrassing to call them my favorite team simply because an overgrown playground bully like Reginald was the face of it. I liked every other player, but that dude was just a constant embarrassment both professionally and as a person. He was so blatant about his bad behavior that I'd honestly say the most surprising thing about the situation is that he managed to keep the org going as long as he did before tanking it with his tantrums and abuse. If he didn't step down from the LCS roster and (mostly) fade from the public eye as early as he did, I'm certain he would've burned it all down way sooner.
I think that Dyrus clip brought out some demons in me, sorry. He was my favorite player and always seemed like the gentlest dude until provoked, usually by Regi, and it was so rough watching Regi treat him like a punching bag over the years. That clip was a particularly bad one, but as a fan watching TSM streams incidents like that were essentially the norm for years. And that was just the stuff he felt comfortable doing on camera, I can only imagine how much worse it was when they weren't streaming. Karma took a while, but I'm glad it's finally coming back around to that absolute tool. I hope all the people he fired off the sinking ship are doing much better without him.

Riot is in it too, the worlds storylines are just way too good to be true
    2022/2023 for example
DRX was completely dogshit all year, them making it to the quarters alone was impressive but then to beat the 2021 world champions, then the LCK 1st seed and finally in an intensely close 5 game they win the finals.
Then 2023, Faker gets injured and T1 is about to not even qualify for worlds, until Faker finally comes back and T1 starts winning, they make it.
The GODS music video reminded everyone of the epic T1 vs DRX series and was all about the DRX underdog story
Analysts placing T1 low on the power rankings. Fakers 10th year, first worlds in front of his home crowd in Korea..
3 out of the 4 quarters played, all LPL teams won, people are already talking about the LPL semi finals.
until the final quarters match: Koreas final hope, the last LCK team left..
against all odds, T1 stomps the LPL and Faker lifts the trophy in front of the Korean home crowd
2019 The world song was literally "Phoenix" and look who won, "FunPlus Phoenix" what a coincidence! and a fun fact, the owner of FPX was a riot employee
It's good entertainment but you have to realize that Riot is a billion dollar company, it is a business and the businessmen at the top only want to maximize profit.
Faker is the face of league, people who don't even play the game still watch all the T1 games in worlds just because of his name.
The viewership brings riot money from ads/sponsors alone, but also the ticket sales, merch, worlds skins etc. Faker brings the views.
The reason the worlds songs are always hype/motivating is to get people to que up. Seeing Faker make a crazy play makes people who never played want to download league.
It's all just to profit and worlds is marketing for the game
But the billion dollar company surely wouldn't pay teams/players massive sums of money to lose on purpose to create better storylines, increase viewership, profit.
Surely the Korean stadium wouldn't be empty and the tournament hype and viewership drop massively if all the 4 Chinese teams made it to the semis.
Riot wouldn't lose out on big sums of money if Faker and T1 got knocked out early, WBG vs LNG finals would break viewership records too.
If WBG won, their skin sales surely would be the same as the new T1 skin line

Just recently theres another match fixing scandal in LPL, in the game LGD vs FPX, the jungler for LGD purposely chose to not level any ability multiple times. Honestly riot needs to do more to preserve the integrity of the competitive scene, and, even as a fan of the LPL, i would even suggest that the LPL be banned from international tournaments for a year should the investigation find him guilty.

I was promised a conspiracy on the level that I couldn't even imagine and I'm sad to say it wasn't even close. My "suspition" is that much like governments there's a policy of, only we can do it, meaning that others can't match fix, but RIOT and TENCENT do matchfix, and this can be seen based on the new champs released and metas that they promote, it's obviously pro chinese playstyles, more fastpaced as a whole and fighting all the time, during one of the worlds they even made the ping be the same as the ping players were used to have in China, instead of playing at 0 ping as it's supposed, kr was most affected at the time, and they were the favourites to win as well.

As pointed put by LFN members, the issue is mainly that game devs dont let private compagnies and individuals organize the tournaments. Which would allow the teams to earn a lot more, instead, its Riot Games who pays these teams their salary.

probably one of the biggest reason esports is finding it difficult to gain revenue is probably anyone and everyone can watch it for free. I don't even have to leave my house to watch 2023 World's. In cases like these, more traffic doesn't even equal to more income. Hard to find revenue.

These matchfixings have been going on for a long time. These are just the ones that get caught. Some of the matchfixing is fairly obvious especially if you play the game as well as watch a lot of pro league. The abnormalities really start to stand out as plain as day.
" It goes deeper than you could ever imagine" heh try me. Money is involved and people do anything for money. I don't have any knowledge of what specifically happens but I just assume it's quite rotten in some areas. My middle of the road take is this, There is a lot of corruption but there is also a lot of honest people too. You have to take things on a case to case basis to avoid biases. Usually (not always) when there is smoke there is fire, as they say. Follow the money. That's a pretty good indicator and a place to start.

    the truth is
    1. eSports is just marketing for game dev/publisher and they don't care about low tier league that doesn't bring viewership which they can turn the viewer into players and buy their in game stuff. It wasn't suppose to be this big and they didn't expect it especially for Riot, for them it suppose to be marketing that gives them more money. So when more people get into this stuff and dreaming about becoming Pros it's like when hallucination becomes reality and game dev/publisher has to fix it when they don't even expect it to be real.
    2. Game dev/publisher they're not police/lawfirm or any kind of investigation company. they have 0 experience and human resource specialize in investigation about a lot of stuff. What they will do is look at their rulebook that they force people or org to sign and try to give them penalty wrote on that rulebook to make it looks like they did something. So most of matchfixing if it's not obvious to the point that you can see it with your eyes and result shown to public they can't do much about it.
    3. China is the biggest market for betting and money laundering most of the team that do matchfixing has sponsor from china and as I said in the past video about WOLF why wouldn't you matchfix when it makes 10-100 times the amount of money than becoming pros when you realize that "PROS" is just hallucination created by game publisher and only in some country that "PROS" is real.
if game dev/publisher actually want to make eSports real thing. they have to adopt the traditional sports stuff into their scene instead of trying to control everything themself by policing and ruling over every single thing pretending to be god of your own games. there need to be commitee or federation for esports not just "one company".
but of course they won't do it because each private company are too afraid to lose their banefits. when there's money in it "esports integrity" is just straight up lies by a whole company acting like a tyrant.
