I regularly listen to this. There is another younger singer in that choir that has an even deeper and more powerful voice. But all the singers in this choir are exceptional.
The purity, serenity, almost introvert quality of this kind of music gently silences the mind, and one is granted some peace for a while. Feelings of happiness and sadness at the same time. Not demanding attention, but inviting you in. No hasty buildups to climaxes, but calm meandering that could last forever. Beauty and consolation. Thanks for sharing 🎉
I've listened to a few different performances of Reveille by various professional choirs and none of them are as captivating as this one, I keep coming back to it. And for a short while it bothered me that it wasn't recorded professionally but now I kind of like it - you get to experience it more from the ears of the audience.
This is one of my favourite pieces of music on TH-cam but I never expected anyone to react to it. So, thank you for reacting: it must have been amazing being there!
Thank you very much for your reaction to Alexey Mikhailov! In this recording, Alexey Mikhailov (soloist) at that time was just one of the students in the boys choir of the M.I. Glinka Choir School (St. Petersburg). This is an amateur recording. Our Russian and Soviet composer Georgy Sviridov wrote a lot of sacred music. My favorite work of his is “Holy God” (Russian Orthodox singing). Highly recommend! Lifts you straight to Heaven... Georgy Sviridov - Holy God - Credo Chamber Choir of Kiev
Hi, I'm trying to find / understand how is Alexey Mikhailov these days.. Unfortunately he stopped post at his TH-cam channel when war began and can't find information. Do you perhaps know if he's well and still singing? Thanks in advance 🌹
Hello I went to watch the video you watched and realized it EDITED OUT the best parts toward the end ! The original performance is definitely worth watching if you didn't see it . It's only about 6 minutes long. It can be found by searching this : хор мальчиков хорового училища им.М.И.Глинки (СПб) часть 6 The channel is : Александр Назаров When I first heard this , I assumed it was Russian orthodox liturgy But I discovered the lyrics are more poetic and less lyrically Orthodox . The lyrics were written by the Russian poet Pushkin . This piece was composted circa 1978 by Georgy Sviridov . Here is a minimal translation : " I hear the distant sound of the morning bugle. It's dawn. The old book of Dante is slipping from my hands. The verse has frozen on my lips, unread. My soul soars high... So alive and familiar, this sound takes me back in time."
Stunning, but also uncomfortable and just plain weird. For some reason reminded me of Kingsley Amis 'The Alteration'. And the audience was incredibly odd...a mix of Soviet and OLD orthodoxy. My bad, I guess. Due to my last job I get a bit freaked out watching priests and singing boys. Very interesting and gorgeous, but creepy. Cracking reaction.
