    I met Loretta Lynn at a concert with Conway Twitty. It is the thing this boy's dreams were made of. I was singled out as a local singer and was asked back stage. Boy, it was like being offered pinto beans and bacon, the two were so extraordinary! Loretta let me harmonize with her on a few songs which made me cry like you wouldn't believe! Conway was a dream. I asked him about his rhinestone guitar strap (sorry I'm inclined to shiny things like a cat). He asked me "do you play" I got to play for him, he laughed and seemed delighted. As I was saying goodbye to them, Conway took off his rhinestone guitar strap and handed it to me saying, "you deserve this as much as me".

    I never got to meet Loretta. Was always my dream. Now she's gone. When I was in college I had to do an English essay about going from rags to riches an American Dream. I did it on Loretta Lynn. I got an A++ on it. My teacher was impressed.

    I think the side thing is today it's at our older country singers aren't recognized like they should be I think they should be recognized more than they are we all seem to forget that they are the ones that made music what it is Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette and Kitty Wells and Dolly Parton and Dottie West and and Patsy Cline all of them made country what it is Johnny Cash George Jones Conway Twitty Charlie Pride Ernest Tubb Little Jimmy Dickens and so many others who have passed on through the years we must take one radio station and turn it into their music even though the years have gone by they deserve recognition don't any but doesn't anybody agree with me I'm sure that the country singers that are still with us would agree with me Loretta Lynn you are one of the finest singers I have ever known I never heard I've no know you personally but I feel like I do you have done Justice to this world and you deserve all the credit at this world could ever give you Patsy Cline was your best friend Kitty Wells was one of your good friends tell me why not was one of your good friends and Dolly Parton is one of your good friends Conway with one of your good friends George Jones with one of your good friends and I'm sure Charlie Pride is as well and we mustn't forget the deer Kitty Wells you have all made country what it is and I wish that somebody would recognize all of you more if I had a license to have a radio station I have one for all of you you are all a blessing to us and you have made it what it is today your music will always be a legacy all of you I hope that all of you read this Vince Gill Alan Jackson Tim McGraw all of you I hope you remember what the older singers that brought to you and always remember that and Tom T Hall and all of them you've all been a blessing so if you really want to honor all these older singers why doesn't somebody help us get a radio station just for them

    • @SaintsPurgatory
      @SaintsPurgatory 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      There is a station dedicated to classic country on Sirius/XM. They only play the real country. All of the ones you named and more.

    • @JulieSmith-oc3nw
      @JulieSmith-oc3nw 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Sirius xm radio has stations of old country music I believe it starts at 59. Nothing but all the country stars you have mentioned. Look for Willie Nelson's station. They need to be recognized on radio, because country isn't what it used to be. Now it sounds like hard rock. 😖

      I AGREE OUR OLDER ARTIST NEEDS MORE RECOGNITION! THEY ARE WONDERFUL SINGERS!WE HAVE GOT A LOT OF YOUNG ARTIST THAT IS GREAT TOO! GEORGE STRAIT IS MY FAVORITE COUNTRY MUSIC ARTIST! HIM AND ALLAN JACKSON CAN SING A COUNTRY SONG THE BEST! GEORGE STRAIT IS THE KING OF COUNTRY MUSIC

    • @pattihouston9050
      @pattihouston9050 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The king of country music George Jones
      Alan jackson and Sammy Kershaw along with a few others are keeping it real country and sing outer legends songs keeping there legacy alive. I think garth brooks and his wife are a pair of clowns on stage making a mockery of the grand ole Opry. Others like hank Jr are rock music. Like you say the pop Country are making money using the real country music but can't sing traditional country to save their lives.
      Today I hear urnest Tubbs record shop is about to close down and has been there since the 40s. Nancy sold up the George jones museum and all George Jones possessions and his name for the money and married kirk West the conman who went to prison when he came out he married Nancy. She never loved George the way people think she did. She used him to make her fortune. No George no money.

    • @cjhetle
      @cjhetle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Current female country singers have a very limited timespan. Think Holly Dunn, Rosanne Cash, Patty Loveless, Trisha Yearwood then Wynonna & Sara Evans. that's a 20 year span of incredible female artists snuffed out.... All thrown aside by tarts who are very proud and free with their crotches and are far to gimmicky. Duh, when 10 of your boyfriends dump you, you should be working on what's wrong with YOU, not writing songs about them!

    OMG the 2nd song..” I Lie “ I’m in tears, what a stunningly beautifully phrased delivery.
    No matter what she sings i can hear that rickety shack in her voice, which anchors her to authentic country like no other singer really could.

    I know for a fact she genuinely loves her fans, for, I saw her perform in Denver back in 1972. During the show the complete sound system went out, and, for 15 minutes she apologized at the top of her lungs! She truly IS "The First Lady of Country"!!...and, at 85 years old she's still performing! Is so great to hear her sing the songs on this video that I grew up with!

    Loretta was not only a top rate country song writer, she was a top rate humanitarian. Some of the hit songs she wrote in her career she would remove her name as songwriter and submit the credit to one of her friends that need financial help. Now singers buy songs written by someone else and claim them as their own.

      Kitty Wells was the Queen of country music, there will never be another. She arguably produces the first million selling song by a woman, who can ever forget It Wasn't Go Who Made Honky Tonk Angles!!!!!! (although Patsy Montana had already done that with I want to Be A Cowboys' Sweetheart). Loretta Was the "FIRST LADY" of country music because she was the first woman in history to win the coveted Entertainer of The Year Award.. And so deserving,!

    RIP. I've been studying the Coal mining business in America for a week now. The life and times of Loretta Lynn embodies it. I went back in time on TH-cam and traveled all through the Appalachian mountains through old footage and new , with the ATV crowd who ride them trails and go into those old coal mining towns. I could feel the spirit of those days. Being an FBA (Black American) with roots that go back to the Jim Crow south and beyond to the Antebellum period of the USA, I noticed how much of Black culture was adapted by these folks. From the food to the music and it was AMAZING to me how they did not give us ANY credit for it. They made it seem like it was something they came up with. When in actuality, so many of them really came through Ellis Island and not the "Mayflower" The fact that Loretta Lynn's mother was supposed to be "Indian" when it's plain to see she was of the $5 variety. That music, the style of her songs was purely and unmistakably, Black American. To give her all those accolades for copying the style and culture of a marginalized people is unconscionable to me. ALL that said, I am so proud to be FBA and although we do not get the credit for having such a large influence on the culture of America, we can look at Loretta Lynn's story and know full well how much we did. Black-folks were in those mines and built the railways leading to and away from them. They act as if we did not exits and had nothing to do with it by not showing or mentioning us, which proves the opposite, we had EVERYTHING TO DO WITH IT!

    • @rooky55
      @rooky55 ปีที่แล้ว

      the story of the Alberta coal mining camps had so many ethnic groups that worked and died in those underground mines, including my mothers first husband. They had their own traditions and did not discriminate.

    • @GuyRBrewer109
      @GuyRBrewer109 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rooky55 Then why not mention the blackfolks who they emulated? Those other cultures were mostly foreign, they had no clue. That would not be true to the FBA. They were the cuture of America, according to a casual glance in a media studies book.

I've been wanting to see herin concert when I was old enough to know what a concert wwas, but my brother and i alwways listened to the radio on the country music sstation here in the Burbs of Chicage, and we wwold listeen to it as our Granny made us breakfast and sent us off to school, so Ive loved Lore
    tta's music beefore the wworld found out who she was from the movie " Coal Mineers Daughter " ...When I bought my tickeets it sstates flash pictures ONLY ALLOWED DURING THE first THREE songs, but I'm hoping to tap thee concert on my very small but great picturee camcorder. If I can I'll learn how to post it on here ( TH-cam )..

    Fitting that she opens her show in Wheeling, WV with John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy," Denver having co-written and sung perhaps the greatest ode to West Virginia... "Take me Home Country Roads."

    In 1987 I went to see Loretta in Lethbridge Alberta... (Awesome)... they were selling tapes of Loretta at Wheeling Jamboree, and I bought one, and a Photo, and after the show, stood in line and she signed the photo.... So Wheeling must have been at least before then....or around that same time frame... I still have the ticket stubb from the Lethbridge Concert!!!

    Their marriage may have been where some of us wouldn't gone through what she had. But their love was true for each other.

    With Loretta Lynn's husband Mooney in this, this was most likely before his heart attack and declining health and sadly he passed in 1996. I would guess this was on the TV in the early-mid 80's. During thee 60's and 70's Loretta kept her hair long, but nothing long like her sister Crystal Gayle. That hair on Crystal's head must weigh 20 pounds, she's said it gives her headaches and neckaches once in a while and i found an interview of her here on TH-cam and she talks about cutting her long hair about 12 inches to keep it off the floor and I think she donates her hair because here are several charities that collect hair donations to make wigs for children with cancer and different types of hair loss, and there are also groups that give wigs to adults....

    I remember Loretta told a story about her twins coming home from school on the school bus, and i guess some other kid on the bus told the twins(Patsy and Peggy) that their mother was going to take Doo away from Loretta. I guess Loretta caught wind of this and confronted both the woman and doo about this. Loretta said when she got finished with them Doo nor the woman in question neither of them looked good..i can see Loretta do it also
