I thought i had out grown trains many years ago, but still i keep coming back to see more videos like this one - these images conjure up what were once locked-up memories.. it makes me feel quite sad really.
I can remember trains running between Wisbech and Deanside in Scotland about twenty years ago, they were carrying empty cans for Spillers dog food. They used to stable at Warrington on Saturday evening and go forward Sunday night.
@@johnmasters504 That`s the one mate. We had a Metal Box factory, here in Liverpool. There is a big Home Bargain store on the site it used to occupy now.
ive been here for over 13 years and theres always been talk abotu getting the railway back, i wish they would do it as it would be a real asset to us all, thanks for doing the video i found it very interesting as always wondered what was left etc
I bet people would still keep the crossing clear under traffic congestion. lol Waiting for that high speed train to come crashing through the bushes. Great video
It'd be nice to get this line running as a heritage railway; I'd have some J70 Trams and Class 04 Diesels running along this railway amongst the heritage steam and diesel locomotives....
We know with hindsight what Beeching didn't, or what Thatcher refused to believe on grounds of dogma. If the Government want their showpiece infrastructure project, chuck out the awful and ruinous HS2 and instead divert a FRACTION of the consequent savings towards the restoration of this line. It'd be a comparatively cheap solution to so many problems: an overheated North Cambridge housing market, the social and criminological problems valiantly being faced by today's marooned Wisbech, the architectural restoration of a fine chain of decaying English towns, an intelligent answer to the Brexiteers (whose vociferous case in this region has been amply justified by Westminster's neglect of it), a counter-stroke to climate-change by diverting the colossal number of HGV movements away from the A17, A47, A10 onto the railways, and prosperity to a vast and underappreciated, region, comparatively close to the capital, which is not as shrill or as hectoring as Scotland, or as the northern cities, in demanding what it deserves. All that, against a saving of fifteen minutes between London and Birmingham? No-brainer.
Unfortunately the political will isn't there to do this. They 'say' they can't afford to reopen it.....yet they can afford to do HS2 - the money pit. Imo HS2 should be abandoned now - it makes no sense to continue with it given first Brexit, and now Covid 19. The money that is earmarked to be spent on it, must instead be diverted to reopening old lines which have a good case for reopening, as well as electrifying the GWR main line into Wales.
A great piece of film, I used to live and work in March - still windy I see!!! How much of that infrastructure is still left now, as I want to get down there and get some photos of it?
@@stephensrailways Thanks Stephen. I've just had a look at 'Rediscovering Lost Railways' film on the very same line but from 2021, most of what you filmed still looks intact other than the odd crossing gate being demolished (or pinched!!). So when the undergrowth has grown back a bit I'll pay it a visit👍.
"which has not seen a train for 15 years" So why haven't they removed the signage at the level crossings? Leaving it in place is irresponsible and dangerous.
"it's what they call 'mothballed ' for possible future use although unlikely." I believe that they still can (and should) remove the signage. To my knowlegde, the term "mothballed" implies that the line isn't formally closed; not that all the infrastructure have to remain in situ.
Why is it dangerous? It's a level crossing.... although there's no trains it's still a level crossing. Removing signage gives the people in power even more reason to deny any possibility of the line ever reopening as it's extra cost.

Sadness, fascination and hope, all in one video. Nicely done.

+scruffwood Thanks, I had never been to this area prior to filming this, so it turned out to be a very interesting trip!
stephensrailways hi there nice video any idea if they have reopened the line or are they going to turn it into a guided buss way? ...
Darron Round with Level crossing on the A47 removed there is little chance of trains using the line again.
th-cam.com/video/nHIUOEJpNBE/w-d-xo.html newly uploaded film of the railway in operation in 1996

Looks a pretty easy line to reopen, even as a semi heritage line

I wish it would still run today.
Loved your video good one.
For all the hot air from the local politician, nothing happened, it looks exactly the same five years later

I haven't been back to visit since taking this, so it could have changed a lot in the last few years

Nice
The rails on the level crossings have been removed and filled in with tarmac.
you forgot coldham old station gentlemans toilets and gates there
if people what the line open come and give use a hand and be member of the brambly line and make it happen
Are you still operating? I applied via email years ago and have never heard anything back so couldn't be that desperate for people.
I like history
Are you on B1101
will they ever reopen it
No
It's on the mayor of Peterborough and Csmbridge's wishlist of transport infrastructure needs.
Interesting. The Bramley line doesn`t look too healthy either.
0:23 leaves :p
The 56 goes down there

knrdvmmlbkkn they have done where the line crosses the A47, and removed the rails. The line has been effectively closed.
