Difficult to behold it's been 50 years. My wife & I saw this at opening and went another half dozen times in the circa, till it finally left Omaha. Not too many are left of this company of actors.

Beautiful scenery shots and magnificent healthy looking horses. Am curious as to where the horses for this movie were obtained.
_Winterhawk_ was filmed mostly in the Flathead Valley of Northwestern Montana, as was 1980's _Heaven's Gate._ There have always been horse ranches throughout that region, and the animals could have been leased from any number of them.
I heard of instances of cruel horse treatment in the making of _Heaven's Gate._ The American Humane Association either looked the other way, or else they weren't even consulted in the first place.

This movie is really good with suspense, drama, horror, sadness, friendship and good twist ending. Honestly the ending had me surprised but it just goes to show what power paternal instinct can do. Definitely a western worth watching.
This movie was shot in and around my home town, I met most of the cast members they were all very nice. This is the first time that I have ever seen the movie though. I know the critics shredded it but I didn't think it was half bad! The music was kind of lame but the acting and cinematography were damn good! In the scene when they were sitting in the cabin I was standing right outside of the door looking in and watching. The shot from the outside wax not the same cabin.
What a beautiful story, great actors, surprising ending!
About fifty years ago I stood next to Woody Strode in the checkout line of our local grocer. He was in town doing location filming for Winterhawk. He seemed like such a big man to me, much like how my ancestors must have felt when they first met York.

Yes, I grew up there. Class of 74. My mom worked at Hennessy's so I got to meet a lot of the cast, they were all very nice people.
@@Mr.56Goldtop Hennessy's ... I lived on the same side of town. '74 was about the time The Outlaw Inn got built and Hennessey's Steak House merged with them.

Germ theory wasn't even invented for a decade AFTER in the 1850's so how could the government have known to do that to blankets in the 1840's.

السلام عليكم استاذ ارجو عرض الفيلم الاجنبي والذي لا اعرف اسمه وكان اسمه المطاردة المحمومة على قناة العراق في اواخر الثمانينات اما اسمه الحقيقي لاعرفه والتى تدور احداثه في الصحراء حيث كان للصين سرقو عقد الماس واختبئو على ظهر شاحنة وكانت تلك الشاحنة لبعثة استكشافية ومعهم طبيبة وفي نصف الطريق خرج اللصين من ظهر الشاحنة وتم رهينة الطاقم في الشاحنة على ان يوصل اللصين الى مكان ما وتبدى المغامرة واكون لك شاكراً وممنون منك ياطيب تحياتي لمجهودك الرائع 🌹🌷🌹

Bison were more typically taken down with spears rather than with bow & arrow. Driving them over cliff embankments, aka buffalo jumps, was also a favored tactic.

It was a low budget film, for sure. Charles B Pierce became the king of low budget after his first feature film, The Legend of Boggy Creek, turned a handsome profit despite its lack of big names. His films looked good on the big screen despite being cheapies, and I always admired the way he pulled that off.
