Nice looking car, love the Black paint, and being a two door. Also like the front hinged hood, I have had two hoods open up on me while driving, and know of another guy as well :) The continental kit was installed on a two door, I would change that, but all else looks great.
I remember as a kid we had a 58 Ford station wagon a County Squire if I remember correctly. It had the same 352 Interceptor engine. Never forget the day he traded in for a new 63 1/2 Galaxie 500 with a 390. He had a buddy who would come by in his new Galaxie but it had a 406 with 2 4 barrels and a 4-speed and give me rides. Good times.

My dad asked him why he didn't just get the 427 to begin with and said that he would have to special ordered it at no discount. The 406 car was ordered by someone who never picked it up and the dealer gave him a great deal on it because it had been on the lot for a while. I believe that it also came with a 4:10 rear. It was a scary fast ride for a 12 year old me.

'58 Fords are rare. We had a recession in '58, and production numbers were down. As well, for some reason '58 Fords rotted away very quickly. '58 was the first year for the 352 engine. It was the first of the FE engines, Ford/Edsel. A great engine, that went on to power many Fords in the 1960s, and in other displacements as well. I'd rather see an engine bay that looks like this one does, rather than one that's all cleaned up for a sale. Somebody loved this car, it can be seen in the bother that they took with adding a nice a/c unit, power front windows, upholstery, and in other touches too. One odd note, the hub caps here are 1964 Ford. The '58 hub caps have more detail and (subjectively) suit the body better.
50 years ago I worked for a ford dealership and one of these black beauties was in the impound shed ,sure wish I could have gotten it! Those are not the original hub caps!

Where's my 57 Belair? I do like black beauty's valve covers on that 58 352 (cougars are they? ) I liked the 58 ford's too I saw an auction where someone pd 80K + for a rusted junked 59 impala WOW convertible !
In the mid 60s, my Uncle had a 3-tone (Brown, red & tan) Fairlane 500 4 door... the car's front end was 3 feet higher than the trunk (A fad for hot rods at the time) To this day, I have no idea how he could see where he was going... about 1969, he drove drunk and smashed head on, into a tree (He was fine, but, the 58 Ford was pre-crushed and ready for recycling)!
One of my uncles bought the same all black '58 at Bielfield Ford in Detroit. His was an automatic without A/C & didn't have the conti kit. The Interceptor was a pursuit option for police departments. He said it averaged 8 mpg & could pass everything but a gas station.
My father pwned one exactly loke thie, i took mu drivers test in it and delivers my papers on my paper route in it. When i joined the Air Force in 1963 i was posted to France in 1966 and lived in Belgium. I needed a car to het to work so i we t to a local used can dealership in Belgium and ther was the same 58 Ford on the lot for a few hundred bucks and i bought it, kept driving it on posting to Germany in 1967. Great car.
I imagine that the Continental Kit would grow on you after awhile. To delete the kit at this point would likely require a few changes, and where are you going to find all of those parts now in mint condition? Not only the bumper needs to change but I can see shorter tail light lenses on the trunk lid so as not to be bumping into the spare tire (or longer lenses on the fenders to see past the tire), and then whatever needs to be added inside the trunk to relocate the spare tire. Best just to leave it the way it is. For all of your time and money, it would be much more fun just to make it go faster than worry about minor details. I'm thinking a crate big block V8, supercharged perhaps with a six speed manual gearbox and a floor shifter. That and some rear end upgrades and you'd have yourself a real sleeper. Take the old 352 and put it in your living room as a conversation piece. You can keep it warm and dry to pass on to the next owner. Nice car and probably incredibly rare!

Of all the cars is in the 50s and early 60s my white Fairlane 500 with the PIS ENGINE ,STRAIGHT SHIFT ,411 REAR ,HOLLYWOOD SMITTIES was the best and most favorite car including a 56 bike and white TBird with skirts and conti kit. Sure wish I had 20 big ones laying around.
I drove a 5 year old Yellow 58 like this when I was a Senior in High School. I still have the full wheel covers from it in my garage. (I'm a pack rat) Can't remember if it was a 332 or a 352 motor. Auto Trans.
Many , many years ago a relative of ours lived across the street from us. She had one of these beast. Yes beast. If memory serves me correctly she had a lot of issues with the '58 Ford. Her's was a two door sedan(post)..Finally she traded it in on a new '63 Plymouth. Thanks for posting Jeff!
My aunt had one in two tone black and yellow Maryland's state colors. It was ordered for the Sheriff of Howard Co., Maryland, but the county failed to purchase it because there was a serious recession that year. It was fully loaded with the police interceptor package including 3.52 ratio positive traction. She kept it 10 years as one of the best cars she ever owned. It would still fishtail with over 100K miles on it and lay down twin tracks of rubber.
Very nice car! I just learned recently that Ford offered some hot 352's. I inherited a '62 Galaxie with a 352, 2-barrel, from my Dad and it was dog, just a good workhorse engine. I would love to have this Fairlane, so many memories from that time.
I’d get rid of that air waste of space an rubbish under the bonnet . But a very nice car. Don’t like the spare on the back. Widen the black rims a bit an but some white letter tyres on her it would look better . 👍🏻🇦🇺

Didn’t take long for this 68 Cougar owner to spot the running cats on those valve covers! I built a FE 428 SCJ back in 1980, they had awesome torque.
Back then you had a lot of options for what engine you wanted The big HP are rare to find in the old Fords

The '58 was my favorite Ford of the 1950s. Was only 4 years old when it came out and I was fascinated by it back then already.
A aunt mine bought one in 1959 , but it was more basic and 6 cyl.
She sold it in 1964.
Notice that it had 130 unmarked on the Speedo and it would hide the needle!!
