okay but honestly the part where dedede tries to stop kirby and shakes his head is really interesting - that is real fear in that pixelated penguin's eyes, and you know you're about to find out very soon why he wanted to stop you so badly
This is on an NES. THIS IS ON AN NES. This game is so magical for an NES game, it even gets around limitations! Simply one of the best NES and Kirby games!
I love this so much graphically, For an NES game, this just shines with style, from the parallax bg as you fall through the atmosphere, the way they used the background to make stars go across nightmmare's cloak, the story elements of the cutscenes, and I can never stop repeatedly watching that anime-esque 'Shing' when Kirby smacks the power orb at the start of the fight. Even with the limitations, HAL pulled off a really epic looking conclusion to the game
To experience it for the first time as a 7-year old in the early 90s was 🤯 The "shing" bit is the 2nd best part... the best paet imo is the 20ish seconds after they close in on the moon, Kirby's star gets shot down, and he faceplants to a halt in front of the Nightmare. Full-on anime cutscene 🤌🏻
I still remember when I first got to this part as a kid. I had struggled against the first phase but when I managed to win it I was like "huh? that's not it?" and picking the star to pursuit the nightmare globe. The ensuing cutscene is ridiculously cool, it had the sense of scale and speed that I had never seen in a video game before. The final chasedown on the lunar surface was just brimming with tension, first something happens to the sphere and it turns to a caped figure in a menacing flash of light, the music becomes more and more intense as Kirby starts dodging the stars thrown at him, then the music cuts completely off at the perfect moment when one of the stars hits kirby, knocking him off the star and then the music tells us that this is it, it's time to kick some ass. It really gets you PUMPED for the final showdown.
I didn't play this game until my mid to late 20s. When this final battle happened and that beat dropped? My mind went "Holy shit, they pulled this off on the NES? How did I miss this as a kid?"
this was the first game I ever played when I was five and to this day, this battle is how I imagine myself trying to conquer the monsters in my head with nightmare being how they might look like.
When I played this as a kid on the Nes I was blown away by this. I mean not even megaman came close to something this intense. Kirby was a hell of a ride.
1:46 through to the boss fight itself, the music and action (especially how the music swells right after Kirby's star is hit) I can't fully put into words just how tense, high-stakes, and epic it all felt to me when I first played it as a 7 year old. Simpler times, the early 90s.
Dude, Nightmare specifically the last stage of him. Is the reason I played this game over and over and over hundreds of times. The final music in this battle is the best ever. I love this game.
Funny thing for me and my brother, we didn’t know the final boss’s name was Nightmare, so we called him the Devil due to the horns on his helmet as well as his dimpled chin since he kinda resembled how Satan was depicted in old Looney Tunes reruns we watched growing up. That spritework of Nightmare taking damage is pure nightmare fuel by the way. 😆
I remember being six playing this game with my sister. Every time we got to this level. We would always call my mom to beat it for us and she would always! I hold this memory so close to my heart. Remembering now seeing my mom play beating the game for her kids was just a priceless moment. I love my mother! LOL
I had so much trouble with this boss as a wee bab because I wasn't aggressive enough and would get crushed by the rising land that comes up if you fail phase 1
It's not so much the technology that's impressive. It's all standard stuff for the NES, even the rotating tower and the many layers of parallax scrolling. The impressive thing is the use of assets and colors to give more depth and even the illusion of overlapping background layers and transparency. It's all incredibly clever coding. Also, this is the largest NES cartridge so they had enough space to showcase all possible tricks the NES can do and crank them up to an extend standard sized games weren't able to.
Same. To me personally because it reminds me of Trouble Bruin in Dynamite Headdy, where you can see him in the background preparing his next phase before coming right at you.
I beat the game on my wii (virtual console) it was so fun but i got frustrated at sun and moon and kracko those are hard nightmare was olso hard but he was a bit weaker at his final form

My favorite part is how they made Nightmare look compared to his artwork. I strangely like how he looks in his sprite more than his actual design.
The programmer was the real hero here
the frame rate is horrible though, almost unplayable
@@hotdogmanful not at all. Are you using a PAL version?
because it's a late nes game so devs know everything about it

Like they always do.
U nailed it

I can't believe this worked on an NES, they blended a cutscene with gameplay better than most modern games.
1:46 One of the most epic music to hit the NES.
Still my favorite final boss theme from any Kirby game.
Ventilation Shafts:
It sounds like a freaking rave 💀💀

Ikr lmao XD😆😆😆

The exact moment it became personal for Kirby.
Like, OUCH!

It honestly shocked me when I found out this was an NES game because I always assumed it was an SNES title.
I remember this fight being exhilarating as hell, even for a kid growing up in the 2010s. Easily one of the best things to come out of the NES.
That first phase music still slaps 🔥🔥

love how kirby accidentally pulverizes a third of the moon.
Whenever I try and the ball of nightmare thinng, when it’s at half health it just flys away and I die
U ran out of time

i called him walniggigi
Dick Dastardly.
Really? For a long time I thought it was supposed to be Dracula
the first kirby game i ever played. so nostalgic!

3:31 Kirby did something that Dr. Eggman would do in the future
he pissed on the moon.
@@kagevista3375 He did no such thing, he used the Space Colony Arc to blast the moon.
@@xxroyalprincexx6811 watch real time fandubs plox
I’ve never been able to beat the nightmare globe. I’ve always been about 2-3 shots left by the time the sun comes up and Kirby always got squashed
0:38 Final battle
Full potentially NES in this game and don't like remakes, STILL LOVING THIS CLASSIC ONE IS JUST MAGICAL
You hate the gba remake?
They really pushed the NES to its absolute limits with this game
I had so much trouble with this boss as a wee bab because I wasn't aggressive enough and would get crushed by the rising land that comes up if you fail phase 1
Where KIrby crashes into the ground and dies.
2:21 if only super mario bros had this quality
This game was so good that they ported this to the GBA. THEY PORTED THIS TO THE GBA.
admittedly they also ported metroid 1 to the GBA and that game was rough
This looks more like a prototype or test game for the SNES, cuz there's no way they managed to make this game look that good.

God i remember playing this on my 3ds and losing my mind at how awesome it was
3:20 my man got analog horror jumpscared to death
The first game where it's Kirby's fault things get worse. Though to be fair, Dedede should have explained himself sooner.
the orb literally just glitches when damaged lol
3:02
Why at the beginning of the fight does a random laser shoot between Kirby and Nightmare Orb?
It's an energy clash. A common animation trait.
The True Bro Ok thanks
Dedede trying to stop kirby got some funny sprites.
Thanks my brother was stuck on this constipated crystal ball
This Ball-Boss got the best OST on NES.

i remember beating this game when i was 4 or 5 yo, i was so proud :D
who’s makin this music ⁉️⁉️🔥🔥 2:02
Happy game but man, what a scary last boss.
Someone should make an anime short of this fight. Would be epic
How the heck do you kill the Power Orb form? I always get stuck in the first phase and forced to retreat and grind for extra lives in Crane Fever.
just repeatedly hit it with stars. it'll eventually go down.
I think this is where they got the idea for Waluigi
1:48 seeing nightmare transform in the background is so eerie to me.
Same. To me personally because it reminds me of Trouble Bruin in Dynamite Headdy, where you can see him in the background preparing his next phase before coming right at you.
Chibiusa and the sailor moon acts always carrys quite a bright purpose
Kirby Adventure is the first Kirby game I've played. Is Nightmare the start of teleporting boss?
Yep
Thanks for the video! I was able to defeat Nightmare thanks to your strategy.
dedede is a true hero
I remember the first time my dad reached this part of the game, I thought he was fighting Dracula.
Me when i attack Nightmare: lol im shooting his co-
I know this boss very well
First phase of to the nightmare is the most hardest boss
Especially since you're on a time limit. If you don't defeat him fast enough, Kirby crash lands on the surface and dies instantly.
3:03
glitch?
They make the game easier on gba by increasing the size of enemies hit boxes
The Snatcher of Dreams: Nightmare
I beat the game on my wii (virtual console) it was so fun but i got frustrated at sun and moon and kracko those are hard nightmare was olso hard but he was a bit weaker at his final form
Credits sound like the ducktales moon theme
I mean, you are returning from the moon right?😏
I could never beat nightmare because the game killed me and I didn't understand why
You were on a time restraint. If you get too low, you will instantly die
I hate that first form of Nightmare has timer
They’re called stakes at hand
......hear me out....
I really can't won that boss :(
only hard part is first segment cus you need to be hurry or else he'll execute you.
Actually Nightmare doesn't kill you, Kirby just crash lands on the surface and THAT'S what kills him.
But yeah, it's a tense time limit.
@@RedShepherd96 well, thanks
