Kaufmann hat noch einiges zum Besseren verändert, als er in die Produktion einsteigen musste (als er den Vertrag unterschrieben hat, wusste er noch nichts von der scheußlichen Regie....)

La trama, la música, el canto de estas estupendas voces están allí intactas. Es más, una puesta en escena así hace que la música de Puccini y la historia de Bardou resalte maravillosamente. Hay que experimentar estas cosas para así valorar las tradicionales y ojalá nunca mas se caiga en esta soberana falta de respeto.

The director's role is to provide us with an adaptation that we have not yet witnessed. If you want something conservative or "same-old," stay at home. PS-just listen to the standing ovations!!!
I fully agree. I wish the productions would be assessed based on the internal coherence of the staging, rather than apparent fidelity to some apocryphal "original." Not saying that all "traditional" productions are bad, but just that it's weird how opera traditionalists will immediately categorize a staging as "bad" simply because it's not "how they used to do it."

Yes, it's in modern dress and I have no issue with that. Shakespeare is often done that way. The piece deals with love, betrayal freedom fighting and sacrifice, These are universal themes in any age and as such this is an excellent production. Thank you very much.

It is set very clearly during the French annexation of Rome and the Papal states that is the backdrop to the drama..... that specific time and place as composed if you want a story about, say, the annexation of Austria by the Germans write that story and leave this story alone

La Divina was deeply close personal friend (Medea); Pasolini's father was an arresting officer & sympathizer of Mussolini. Salo - the most controversial film in history (directed by Pasolini) to this day...................was Mussolini's stronghold city. Does European history forget so quickly what atrocities she gave birth to, nurtured, and witnessed.........? Opera is not Netflix entertainment - it is to challenge and make a statement even when such statements can lead to your extermination from the book of life. I might not "like" or understand the production staging, but if and when I question what it means, my mind opens to learn, understand, and accept to see different views. Prefer the tradition - but have educated and learned more about Pasolini, which I was completely ignorant of before...... PS: JK was not prepared to do several of the staging directions - so modifications were made. It was a "job" - his job, and work...
El contexto histórico es esencial en esta obra de manera especial porque se trata de acontecimientos que sucedieron realmente! Los lugares donde ocurrieron, el momento de la invasión napoleónica a Italia, los personajes como Angelotti existieron! Se sabe hasta el día, mes y año cuando tuvieron lugar! Creo que el 24 y 25 de Junio del año 1800. ¿Hay que decir mas? Si quieren realmente innovar pues que escriban su propia ópera y hagan lo que quieran, no les parece? Mientras la escucho me da la impresión que está puesta en escena excéntrica y extemporánea saca a los cantantes e incluso a la orquesta del ambiente natural donde fue concebida y esto se refleja en la interpretación musical. Muy bien tocada, pasaje por pasaje, frase por frase pero no encuentro un hilo conductor, un sentido más horizontal y coherente que unifique esta música. Sé que esto es muy subjetivo pero yo estoy tocándola por estos días en Santiago de Chile y mañana es la última función y estamos todos imbuidos del carácter y estilo únicos de Giacomo Puccini y puedo darme cuenta de este fenómeno. Es como si la música incluyendo los cantantes hubieran sido abducidos y sacados de todo contexto... Comuníquese, publíquese, tómese razón, Ibáñez C. 😁😁😁
Con éstas producciones no funciona para nada con tosca. Puccini que transcurre en roma 1800 en lugares históricos no esto sigen detryendo la opera en todo el mundo por Puccini nosigan matando tosca en la opera crítico José andres
Encore une mise en scène horrible et très laide qui détruit l’opéra et les chanteurs sont complices de cette horreur. Tant pis pour eux … je ne regarde plus les vidéos sur TH-cam quand les chanteurs portent des habits contemporains , je ne vais plus à l’opéra et je ne les écoute plus, et je ne suis pas la seule, la majorité des commentaires sont négatifs. Malheureusement je ne peux plus regarder les opéras que ces chanteurs complices chantaient quand ils étaient jeunes et que les mises en scène étaient respectueuses de l’œuvre..je suis trop déçue par leur trahison.
l'idea di dare un'impronta cinematografica poteva anche funzionare ma non è molto chiaro: è la "vera" vicenda, sia pure in abiti moderni, o è la storia della realizzazione di un film-opera, insomma cinema nel teatro? Vari spunti mi paiono presi da altre messinscene es. i richiami al "Salò" di Pasolini cui si sono in effetti ispirate un paio di produzioni. E un "omaggio" a Pasolini lo troviamo all'inizio del 3°atto con la sequenza di "Mamma Roma" di Anna Magnani, sulla musica dell'alba romana e lo stornello,( e poi ancora durante l'atto.varie immagini filmiche).
Che schifo, non ho resistito che una decina di minuti. Cantanti, ditettore d'orchestra, orchestrali, ma perché accettare una tal miseria registica??? Vergogna.

El gusto artístico ha muerto.Es la trivialización vulgar de todas las óperas.Y ni siquiera se dan cuenta de la absoluta y total incoherencia entre texto,canto y escenificación asquerosa.Hasta Jonas Kaufman cae en ésto porque es lo que ofrecen para trabajar.Las voces se vulgarizan,se destimbran,se dañan,suenan horrible.No hay inspiración,ni nobleza,ni belleza en nada.Todas las óperas reducidas a pantomimas asquerosas y de mal gusto.Por èso,Riccardo Muti no las dirigió más.
Kaufmann does sing as if he has a potato in his throat. He opens his mouth, yet he sounds as if he is singing through his teeth. Very odd and unpleasant.

Oh my, what an insult to Puccini. Seriously, I have seen fantastic heavy sets with authentic costumes and I have seen modernisation to a certain extent with a fairly bare stage but I just cannot watch this. I do like some modern twists but no, no, no. This is like setting Turandot in the space age; yes I actually had to sit through that in Teatro Massimo Palermo. Some operas can take modern staging or a blend of modern and traditional but this is just ugly.
Another "postmodern" garbage staging. Absolute nonsense, just a director's exhibiting. In such a case it is better to stay home and listen to the old recordings.

Los lugares donde ocurrieron, el momento de la invasión napoleónica a Italia, los personajes como Angelotti existieron! Se sabe hasta el día, mes y año cuando tuvieron lugar! Creo que el 24 y 25 de Junio del año 1800. ¿Hay que decir mas? Si quieren realmente innovar pues que escriban su propia ópera y hagan lo que quieran, no les parece?
Mientras la escucho me da la impresión que está puesta en escena excéntrica y extemporánea saca a los cantantes e incluso a la orquesta del ambiente natural donde fue concebida y esto se refleja en la interpretación musical. Muy bien tocada, pasaje por pasaje, frase por frase pero no encuentro un hilo conductor, un sentido más horizontal y coherente que unifique esta música.
Sé que esto es muy subjetivo pero yo estoy tocándola por estos días en Santiago de Chile y mañana es la última función y estamos todos imbuidos del carácter y estilo únicos de Giacomo Puccini y puedo darme cuenta de este fenómeno. Es como si la música incluyendo los cantantes hubieran sido abducidos y sacados de todo contexto...

Con éstas producciones no funciona para nada con tosca. Puccini que transcurre en roma 1800 en lugares históricos no esto sigen detryendo la opera en todo el mundo por Puccini nosigan matando tosca en la opera crítico José andres
Encore une mise en scène horrible et très laide qui détruit l’opéra et les chanteurs sont complices de cette horreur.
Tant pis pour eux … je ne regarde plus les vidéos sur TH-cam quand les chanteurs portent des habits contemporains , je ne vais plus à l’opéra et je ne les écoute plus, et je ne suis pas la seule, la majorité des commentaires sont négatifs.
Malheureusement je ne peux plus regarder les opéras que ces chanteurs complices chantaient quand ils étaient jeunes et que les mises en scène étaient respectueuses de l’œuvre..je suis trop déçue par leur trahison.

l'idea di dare un'impronta cinematografica poteva anche funzionare ma non è molto chiaro: è la "vera" vicenda, sia pure in abiti moderni, o è la storia della realizzazione di un film-opera, insomma cinema nel teatro? Vari spunti mi paiono presi da altre messinscene es. i richiami al "Salò" di Pasolini cui si sono in effetti ispirate un paio di produzioni. E un "omaggio" a Pasolini lo troviamo all'inizio del 3°atto con la sequenza di "Mamma Roma" di Anna Magnani, sulla musica dell'alba romana e lo stornello,( e poi ancora durante l'atto.varie immagini filmiche).

La Regia non è un disastro, è un proprio e vero schifo! Come si fa a cambiare lo spartito e la drammaturgia richiesta da Puccini con questa messa in scena oscena???!!! Cada día estas puestas en escena de las óperas con esas escenografía muestran las mentes tan vacías y llenas de conceptos enfermizos sin sentido del argumento pobres compositores, creo que morirían nuevamente si ven esos conceptos en sus dramas compuestos simplemente horribles estos escenografos de hoy.

El gusto artístico ha muerto.Es la trivialización vulgar de todas las óperas.Y ni siquiera se dan cuenta de la absoluta y total incoherencia entre texto,canto y escenificación asquerosa.Hasta Jonas Kaufman cae en ésto porque es lo que ofrecen para trabajar.Las voces se vulgarizan,se destimbran,se dañan,suenan horrible.No hay inspiración,ni nobleza,ni belleza en nada.Todas las óperas reducidas a pantomimas asquerosas y de mal gusto.Por èso,Riccardo Muti no las dirigió más.

Oh my, what an insult to Puccini. Seriously, I have seen fantastic heavy sets with authentic costumes and I have seen modernisation to a certain extent with a fairly bare stage but I just cannot watch this.
I do like some modern twists but no, no, no. This is like setting Turandot in the space age; yes I actually had to sit through that in Teatro Massimo Palermo.
Some operas can take modern staging or a blend of modern and traditional but this is just ugly.
