The audio in this video was recorded with in-ear binaural microphones. If you wear headphones, your mind won't be blown, but it will go, "woah, that's cool."
I'm also the producer for the Winding Road TH-cam Channel:

Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly press vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole "woah" factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, it's pretty nuts. Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. Why are you still reading this, you should be watching the video. With headphones! Hah, had to sneak that in there one more time. Later!

This is a pretty ideal tire size for the 460 imo, slightly narrower and taller than OE sizing, but still fits comfortably in the spare tire area (just).
I have the TERRAINCONTACT A/T in the stock 265/60R18 on my 2015 GX460 and couldn't be happier. (Not much snow in Houston tough....)
I cannot say I'm jealous of the snow! But I do love the GX
Just moved to Alaska and purchased a 2014 gx for all the winter snow and hills I climb on my daily drive. Had an 04 GX back in the day and loved how reliable it was. Great video really enjoyed it.
Love the way Chris clap those feet like a snow pro lol. This truck is so durable and will last you a decade. Its just so old and desperately needs a face lift though.
A decade? More like 3 decades!
Only a decade?! Bro this truck can last a lifetime if you keep changing the fluids.
@@quarantinedota6873 Toyota makes the best vehicles on the planet!
Ari Truths
It did receive a facelift and little interior changes for 2020
David S yup, it would be ridiculous if it only lasted 10 years like those Korean semi-vehicles.
Love these 460 videos! Bought a 2011 Premium a month ago to daily and love it!
Update?
Heavy snowstorms in early November. Really caught us all off-guard!
LMFAO I was happy that we had early snow now we gotta brace for bitter cold . But I rather have that then summer heat.
Definitely wanna see more GX action!! once our subie has ran its course a used GX is at the top of my list!
Love seeing a gx get some off-road action rather than the typical Tacoma or 4Runner
Pretty sure the GX and 4runner are a shared platform.
@@Eggsr2bcrushed They are not. The Land Cruiser Prado is what the GX is. However, there are a lot of similarities between the 4Runner and GX.
My Dad was chief chemist and father in law was the general manager of Cooper Tire in Texarkana, Arkansas. I have carbon black in my blood! I sort of hate to admit it but prefer Michelin ‘s. I have them on all four of my cars.
Winter is coming! You know we expect some more videos like this one!
For your consideration..... if u deal with icy & slippery winter conditions I would highly recommend the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 SUV Studded tires. BEASTS. Must have tires living in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. 👍🏻👍🏻
How’s cabin noise with them being studded?
Yeah....
First lol.. Seriously this is one of the best TANKS in the world. Safe, Reliable, you name it, it's attributes far exceed the gas consumption problem that weighs heavily on "Proper" SUVs.
It's interesting how the snow has a tendency to enhance the audio(For a lack of a better word) from the V8's growl. Love it!!!
Please send some of that snow to the West Coast.
Yes! Been waiting for more of your GX videos!
That merging onto the highway on snow without winter tires still gets me!
Yes there's something about the GX that makes it special. Love my 2018.
Hong Situ probably the predator grill ?
@@bathingtiger4925 only if I'm staring at it all the time while I'm driving.
I love these snow car drive videos from you haha
My wifes 460 had some firestone all seasons and it would slide in less than an inch of snow, almost undriveable. Had to go with All terrain.
All seasons tire are not optimal in any season. Only winter tires are optimal for winter.
I had this same tire on a Chevy Suburban 4WD and it was nice. In deeper snow we would add two bags of salt behind the front seats and ten in the rear cargo area.
My 2019 4runner TRD off road has the same turn signal sound. I love how it's not an annoying obtrusive sound. Can't beat Toyota for trucks these days. Nissan is finished.
Nissan Armada/Patrol is still a great truck. Made in Japan too.
What engine has 4runner? Is this same or gigher than highlander? Sorry for silly question but it's not offered on my country and very rare

We just got snow in NY. Not even Thanksgiving we had upper teens to low twenties today
@@dylanw890 Same thing on the other side of Lake Ontario.
@@rightlanehog3151 in Toronto theres literally at least 15 cm of snow on the ground.
In Finland we have already 40 cm.
For all of Gx460 owners I highly recomend the sprint booster and ko2 tires. Check the reviews for your self.
Is nigh and day difference with the sprint booster performance.
And for all weather conditions and terrain the ko2 are the way to go.
why do you need that in a 5000lb vehicle? you wont beat a civic with it. its probably doing more harm than good.
@@trilingualkid
The gx460 is heavy and slow of the line and not the best in fuel eco by installing the sprint booster you'll get the power of the line and a bit better eco on fuel. Yes you will be racing after you install the sprint booster thinking you got a fast suv. Lol
Hate to break it to everyone out there, but LT tires like the K02s aren’t meant for anything 1/2 ton or below. If you do a lot of off roading and it isn’t your daily driver, go for it. But you’ll want non LT if you will be driving on pavement for an extended period of time.
I'm using Michelin X-ice xi3 with the stock 18 inch rims and tire size on my 2016 GX; they are pretty decent winter tires. I haven't compared them to anything but the Michelin Latitudes that came with the car.
Thats a bad ass Tank bud!
Was just in Michigan with mine I love my BFG K02s they’re great in the weather. You consider lifting it?
That’s good to hear! My dads FJ is due for a fresh set of K02s. And yeah, I’ll probably go with a Dobinson 2” lift at some point. The oem suspension feels so fresh right now though I’ll probably do under body armor first
Always enjoy your videos and insights on the GX. I've begun shopping for a '14+ model. You mention how dated the traction control system is but is it really any different from the current offerings in the 4Runner and Tacoma with ATRACS and Crawl? Maybe just more refined over the years?
It may have been refined a bit, haven’t pushed a newer GX/4Runner enough to know, but aside from all the noise the system does work wonders! Especially crawl offroad
OCD Lexus technician here. RF corner marker bulb out ;)
Good eye! Also a bulb in the passenger tail lamp is out and bugs me every day- can those be replaced individually?
@@TheTopher If it's the bulb on the side of the tail light than yes, they're just little 192 bulbs and there's usually a clever little access pannel in the rear cargo area to access them or 2 10mm screws and pull the assembly backwards to reveal the harness behind the taillight, you just rotate the bulb socket counter-clockwise to get it out. However if its one of the rear facing LED diodes than you're outta luck and would have to replace the whole tail light I believe.
How is reliability on this truck? Any problems? What thpe gas do u use?
Can you do the 2020 GX? :)
I have a 2008 GX470, but I find it to be too hardcore. It drives like a tank. My dealer always gives me a loaner 460, and I find the ride a lot more forgiving and suitable for daily use. So the million dollar question is, should I go with a 2013-2015 LX570 or 2014-2016 GX460? I like everything about GX, but LX is the ultimate Lexus SUV. However, is it worth buying an LX? Money is not really an object here, but I want to know which one is easier to live with on a daily basis. Something tells me LX is going to be too hardcore for daily use around the town. Your thoughts are appreciated.
I had the same question when I was shopping, since getting the 460 I’ve spent a lot of time in the LX and LC and I prefer the size and maneuverability of the GX460. The LX is fantastic but it just feels so big and heavy that it’s cumbersome in the city/tight environments. They’re different beasts and I’d test both to see what you ultimately prefer but price not a factor I prefer the 460 as a daily.
@@TheTopher Thanks. I have test driven the LX and GX. A short drive doesn't provide a good assessment of how a vehicle is to live with. If I go back in time, I would have gone with GX460 over 470. GX460 is far smoother and more refined than 470. I like the power in LX, but the extra weight makes it a bit sluggish and terrible on gas.
Man LX is tough to park and manouver...
Most people don't have the luxury of buying 2 sets of tires and than changing them each season. Most people in NYC get all season and stick with them for their lifetime. 50k+ and they seem to be doing well in harshest of winters. It snows here like 2-3 times each winter. I met some mechanics who told me to rotate tires every 10k (they sold the tires). They're not my mechanics anymore.
If you can buy a GX460, you can afford snow tires. It’s also part of being a responsible driver. Snow tires also function better in the cold than all seasons.
I have a GS460 which I love, but I live in Minnesota and rear wheel drive isn’t ideal, I’m thinking of buying a 2012 or 2013 GX just to have a tank for the winter
Do iiit
Hey Topher! Could you get a hold of that new 2020 Camry TRD? I'm really interested in it as a good value fun daily. Great video!
I like this generation gx , looks amazing
Was so happy when it snowed really early this November in mi 😝 I hope we have white Christmas.
Michigan is getting way more winter weather action than Anchorage Alaska.
Right lol I love my state
😂
I would be more worried about traction on ICE rather than traction on snow with these all terrain tires. I think real winter tires will be vastly superior on ice. In terms of the GX itself, quality never goes out of style.
This.
Yes my brother bought brand new ko2 with less then 300 miles on them. He roll his 4 runner with those tires on ice. NO he was nothing going fast he's 57 yrs old. I understand that winter tires are best for ice. But A/T are like slicks when it hits ice. Be careful
@@itsmyleggz I hope he is ok.
I want the GX 460 so bad!
Id love to see you trying to drift a Kia Sorento in that awesome snow!

love your videos!
Topher, what kind of headlight bulbs are you using? Thanks
Oem
Great vid Love the Gx. Super smooth V8. Might be picking one up... a 19... Anything I should be looking out for??
How’s the ride quality of the gx compared the passport? Is the gx more refined?
They’re honestly about the same. The passport was a little quieter over bumps, but my GX has 145,000 miles on it...
For my 2018, the only noise I truly hear is wind noise above 70mph. This is the quietest Lexus product I have been in, even quieter than the LS460. Tire noise is almost non-existent in the GX. Every other Lexus cars and crossover from ES to LS to NX to RX, tire and road noise annoyed me to no end. The GX is just serene.
Just put on Nokian WRG4 SUVs on my GX460 and they grip ice/slush/hard packed snow just like the Blizzak DM-V1's on my 4Runner, Michelin Xice2's on Highlander, and DM-V2's on LX570. I was amazed how well they handled the winter stuff so far here in Upper Midwest. Dry and wet handling is very similar to the OE Michelin Latitude Tour Hp's. Noise is the only con so far after 500 miles on them. We'll see how they hold up in tread life. I'm sold on these year round all-weather Nokian's. www.amazon.com/photos/shared/5UXRwjZ8T-Wsf55aWK8eyg.QSySmr9-sK4Q6pM4HBW__F
What size did you go with?
@@TheTopher
Stock size 265/60/18
I'm interested in purchasing a GX in around the '12 to '14 year range but have concerns about the amount of rust on the undercarriage -- especially living in the rust belt as I do. Wondering how your GX has held up, or if you have any concerns about rust never sleeping? Thanks. Great videos.
This one was in great shape because it lived most of its life in Oklahoma. Many of the others I looked at here in Mi were pretty bad, I’d recommend trying to find a southern car, and rust proofing it. I’ve been using Krown for the past two years and it’s holding up great.
what you get for mpg, city vs hwy mileage , love the gx but the V8 economy worries me long term. Cheers.
It’s not cheap, but have averaged between 16-20mpg throughout its life
Heard bad about braking with on high speed kind of shaking the wheel this issue happens in all models???!!!! Thanks
I never had that issue
Hey love the videos on your truck. What are you doing to protect the underbody from the winter elements?
Thanks! I take it to get Krown rust proofing once a year and do a few touch-ups on my own in the spring.
Are you going to post the Honda Passport in the snow?
Yes!
Hey Topher. Love your videos! I am about to get some 265/70/r18 KO2 AT tires for my GX460 to replace the stock ones. Do you think that size will fit in the spare compartment? I am running no lift or anything. So these tires will go on a stock suspension. Thank you man!
Thanks dude! anything over 31.5” diameter won’t fit
@@TheTopher Thank you so much! So I'll probably pick up a set of 265/65r18 then
@@TheTopher Update: Picked up some Cooper Discoverer Rugged Treks for the GX. Looks very rugged now 👍
So traction control off is better in snow?
1st winter driving video! I love these, thanks for doing them.
What tires did you go with on the BRZ this year?
Haven’t decided yet! Gotta send an order into tire rack soon ;) going to try an oversized 205/55R17 though for more ground clearance and sidewall
Thank you!
Love snow !
whats ur mpg like? would u recommend the gx460 as a daily?
Definitely would recommend it, it’s been awesome. Mpg has aceraged between 17-19, 20+ on road trips with premium fuel
Fog lights? It didn't look foggy...
It can be used in all inclement weather not just fog so...
All terrain or all weathers?
Was this slower in snow than the Honda Passport or were you just flogging it more in the Honda?
I would not recommend this tires for winter. On icy roads they completely loose a grip. If you’re looking for universal tires for GX the all weather tires will be much better. Like Nokian WRGs 3 or 4 or Michelin Cross climate SUV. They are real all seasons all terrain tires. This Coopers may kill you on icy roads.
good video!!!!!!!!
i love you so much from algeria
What you have there is a Toyota Land Cruiser 150 in Lexus garb. And you rev the engine way too aggressively.
