I've been trying to play guitar for awhile now and never make any progress with it and keep taking strings off to try to have less to mess up. First it was 5 string Keith Richards open G and I kept going until I only have 1 string left on there and I can actually do stuff like you do here now. I'm thinking about selling the guitar and making my own diddley bow because the frets can get in the way sometimes.
As a guitar teacher I feel like encouraging you to keep the six string and try the diddley bow (that's an excuse to own two guitars haha). If the frets are in the way when you're playing slide on a guitar there are a few things that could be causing that. There's no need to press down with the slide but rather just touch it to the strings while hovering over the frets. Usually you should be able to see in between the strings and the frets while you play. Lower actions and light strings tend to make this slightly more difficult but not impossible. I tend to prefer mediums and a slightly higher action. Heavier slides can also be harder to control so I recommend starting with a thin glass slide which will be easier to prevent from hitting the frets and then working your way up. I hope this helps in some way.
@@samwentzellmusic1215 I have heavy strings and the action so high that it doesn't play in tune anymore making frets useless. I even end up hitting the sides of the fret trying to play the lowest string or when I tilt the slide to play an individual string. What I thought about doing was getting a fretless neck and using that for a partscaster. The other issue I have is strings being close together for chords so I would get a nut width 2" neck for another partscaster. But really my main problem is lack of coordination and string muting which is a main reason I went to one string. I am fast horizontally and practice with my eyes shut and use a tuner and then open my eyes to see how close to the note I am and practice that way. For some reason though just two strings will slip me up. I just end up playing powerchords so it is like I'm playing diddleybow anyway and I use the guitar for playing doom metal so I am playing really slow for that for the riffs.

Have you considered a harmonica?
