    Hey mate, thanks for sharing your experience and for the inspiration. Based on that, I just started my first flying lessons in a SR20 G6! I’m glad that I’ll be able to do my Instrument Rating in the same plane and it will be the plane that I eventually rent or buy. Good advice!

    Stephan I have flown almost every GA plane there is. A Cirrus makes me feel safe and secure and its automation is just superb. Here in the UK we tend to buy them. I have a GA7 with a G 295 on it and Sky demon on the yolk. I want an Avadyne 440 and foreflight and miss flying at Morrabbin. Best to hire.

    I'm training in a CirrusSR20 g3 now, and wouldn't have it any other way. Modern aircraft, glass cockpit, and a safety record that's the envy of other GA manufacturers. Great videos. Really enjoy your work

    @StefanDrury I really agree with your advice in this video. I started in a 172 and as soon as I saw a DA40 on the tarmac I immediately switched flight schools knowing I'd never go back to the Skyhawk. The DA40 is a far superior trainer/aircraft IMO with the only real drawbacks being that you have to learn how to fly a "complex aircraft" pertaining to constant speed prop which can and does cause more stress, especially as a student pilot. You also have to occasionally convert from metric system when doing calculations since Diamond is an Austrian based company and lastly the cabin can get really hot with that bubble canopy if you're training in a warmer climate unless you're flying with an aftermarket AC. I think everyone would opt to train in a Cirrus if they could afford it. I thought the DA40 was cool until I saw an SR22 right beside me during preflight and I couldn't stop drooling. My instructor was like "you gotta work your way up" and I remember thinking.. screw that I wanna train in that thing!!

    I believe the CIrrus is a incredibly modern aircraft compared to most others and the safety features you get including CAPS could prove life saving. Aircraft safety is one of the most important aspects of learning to fly a plane and the Cirrus is a leader in terms of safety.

    Just make sure to not turn down opportunities to fly different aircraft when offered. One flight in a different aircraft doesn’t hurt, and can be beneficial to you as a pilot so you can see differences between aircraft, and why they’re different. I have been lucky and have some time in a Yak 52 in my logbook, and that was an amazing experience on top of my regular training in a Cessna

    Stefan. I agree with you on the Cirrus. For 21st century aviation you need a new set of skills. You need to stay ahead of a fast moving aircraft and learn all the functions of a complex Garmin Perspective system. Your videos have inspired me to the extend that it might very soon cost me a lot of money. 😬😄

    Your training comments are well founded. I once came across a private helicopter pilot who learnt to fly on his own machine from start to finish and it was a Eurocopter Squirrel! Talk about a steep learning curve, however he obviously managed it and had the pride of doing it in his own aircraft. Great video, by the way the bats are flying foxes, plenty of them where I live too. Just don't park your car under the trees where they roost... Fly safe.

    Great video again Stef and I agree with you about type of aircraft flying. I started in Texan LSA doing my Recreational Pilot license then Cessna and Piper arrow to PPL and IFR and now flying the SR22 I believe it is far superior, more advanced and safer to fly than any other aircraft I have flown.
    To all those that say you are lazy flying the Cirrus, again untrue as the technology we have in our plane is as good as most airlines. To all those instructors that “bag” the Cirrus ask them if they have ever flown in one .. I’ll bet most haven’t. We are in the 21st century flying so our equipment should be state of the art and not 1960’s dials and gauges.
    Keep up the great work.

  • @LuisMartinez-ew4ob
    @LuisMartinez-ew4ob 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been struggling with this for a while. I've taken two discovery flights on a Cessna 172, but I'm really drawn to the Cirrus. I asked the instructor what she thought of me learning on a Cirrus and she said it was a bad idea. She said Cirrus pilots aren't good at recovering from a stall because they can always pull the CAPS. Also, the money is quite a bit more, but I think I'd be willing to pay for better technology.

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Luis, I can't comment on the cost difference, of course you'll need to decide that for yourself. But for a professional aviator to suggest that Cirrus pilots aren't good at stall recovery because of the CAPS system is a little disappointing to hear. We practise basic stall recovery in a Cirrus, and the procedure isn't to pull the CAPS handle. It would be an expensive training program otherwise. The Cirrus is the only Single Engine aircraft I'd ever fly at night, and probably the only one I'd feel really comfortable flying cross country in these days as well. Maybe worth you having a trial flight one day, and chat with a Cirrus CSIP, so you can make your own mind up about the machine. Good luck with your training mate, stef 👍

    • @LuisMartinez-ew4ob
      @LuisMartinez-ew4ob 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I found it odd as well, but since I'm so new to the world of aviation, hearing something like that caused me to have doubts. Regardless, I am going to schedule a trial flight.

    I've always wanted to train in a Cirrus, but I'm afraid that if I train in a Cirrus, I might get used to the automation and side stick so much that if I get any other kind of aircraft to fly on my own later, I won't know what to do. Also, what if I end up liking the Cirrus so much that I stick with it forever and I never get to fly and experience new aircraft? Since Cirruses have the parachute and extra automation and whatnot, that can really take a toll on my wallet. If I train with a Piper or Cessna, I might get ahead of the curb if I eventually transfer into the Cirrus. However, if I do end up transferring into the Cirrus, I might be so conscious about all of the things I had to do in the Piper/Cessna that I end up never getting used to the Cirrus and flying it all sorts of wrong. However, I do like the way the Cirrus initially feels and looks and from what I see, the side stick seems easy as compared to the yoke, which is more like a steering wheel. I do have my whole life ahead of me, so I shouldn't be worrying about this kind of stuff, but I wanted to get your take on this.

    • @camerond-x5s
      @camerond-x5s 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      GK, the decision you make is going to depend on what kind of flying you like and what you want to do afterwards. A Sling, Foxbat, etc. is kinda the LSA path where the Cessna/Warrior/Cirrus is GA. PS: Aside from RVAC, there are plenty of good flight schools at Moorabbin - don't be afraid to go for a TIF at more than one. :-)

    SUPER AGREED with your polo philosophy to do what is the best for you … but adding technical advances in your learning not 1945 way of fly certain pilot just they don’t know and that why the criticism the team technology… because they ever even airline pilot don’t have it so they reject what they don’t know but … sometimes that I disagree is the helphant in the room I’m sorry but I know very well the cirrus but the most killer and dangerous airplane in the plane please I like you if you can afford a cirrus but a techo one … up grade
    One question if you jump as a sky diver and you spin before to deploy the chute what happen
    Avery one knows the cierta can not recover ever in a spin so the corruption of the FAA and cirrus paying billions as did nkt recover spin they in the airworthy need the word recover to be able to certify the spin revivers so the put a chute with the name recover parachute … si again if you spin as an skydiver and fallows the spin yiu deploy your parachute… what happened
    So cirrus is not airworthy with out parachute is the only one plane in the plane that is not airworthy with out parachute and what is airworthy? Is no and airplane is grounded so the cirrus is marking the plane targeting the wife … is the only plane that wife like !? Why ? Is the copy of the ttx that is a real airplane and could copy the empennage so for that reason ever recover the ttx yes and very well so being a gorgeous design by do way lanc air and stole but cirrus but even are bad to stole plans ( incomplete) could nkt recover and invented a receiver chute so the corruption of cirrus and FAA find the solution and with the only good thing that has cirrus MARKETING they target the wife that dose not have an idea about aviation as the new pilot beside lest than 1% of the World population is a pilot easy to lie cirrus a FAA to 99,999 of the planet with the “ first aircraft with the parachute yes was the first because with out can’t be able to be safe so is the most unsafe plane of the plane with the best lie marketing targeting wife of new pilot with the “safe chute” gorgeous like ttx and ignorance toke over and had being the plane that killed more pilots in the history of the world and in the whole global aviation
    They don’t care … all care is $$$
    So if you spin in your Currus you are and your wife and baby’s will be killed with the cables that will cut the plane like
    knife blender machine …. is not saving life those in accident in cirrus should never happen in the first hand ever should be certify airworthy because is a incomplete ttx copy and just target woman’s … if less that the plane population are pilot imaging 99,999 of the plane are ignorant of aviation
    Imaging how evil cirrus is to targeting a Wife that beside Lest that 1% of the world are pilot imaging how ignoran can be a wife about spin reviver my and parachute recover in a cirrus
    They sale the most dangerously and not plane at all of the world as safe to a wife ‼️‼️!???? The
    PERFECT CRIME … with billion of $ gain payed with human life
    Shame on you Cirrus shame
    But a ignoran population is victims of their own destruction
    So open your eye and upgrade you are a good guy and thank good your wife she is mky flying with you
