This just happened to me about ten minutes ago! Same location, same hose. It just snapped, I have a 2009, same model. Thanks for your video, gonna give this a go and try to repair this myself. Much appreciated from California!
Thank for the vid! glad its still up after 6 yrs! Did it myself! replaced both connectors! cost me 25 each at the auto parts store! Mechanics had quoted me between 500-550 for them to replace!! sheeeeeesh i aint paying that took me 50 bucks and about an hr of work to get it done! haha! saved myself soooooo much money! thanks again!
Looked up this video and it came clutch with taking everything off without breaking the clips .. EASY FIX. No more than an hour job ! Chopped off the crimped hose and slipped it back into the fitting and clamped it down.. THANK YOI BROTHA 🙏🏼
Appreciate the help. This happened to me yesterday and I followed your video exactly. I wasn’t as quick as Jay, but everything is back in working order. Those clips suck!
I just replaced my heater core in my 2011 GMC 1500 Dinali. I work at a dealership and have been for 26yrs. It took me about 5 hours to do. To add to this video lining a thin coat of antifreeze to the rubber oring inside the new hose will allow you to slide the hose on without force. I’ve seen techs break a heater core doing what this guy did by applying to much force to install the new hose. FYI a heater core is not a DYI unless you have a A/C machine and a tech2 or laptop.
tlt40s&w 70 Thanks for the tip! Not sure if you actually watched the video or not but I can’t find the part where we applied to much force sliding the hose on. It basically just slide back into place by slightly pushing it on the same as any tech in a professional shop would do. Any car fix can be diy with the proper knowledge and tools. Let us know if you need any help on any other repairs. Thanks.
Why do you need a laptop or a tech2 to do a heater core??? I replace at least one a week for a major used car lot and never need those to replace them with!!!! And I never used any force with the quick disconnect heater core hose bc it just snaps in place...
Oh my goodness, mine just went out today. And Thanks to you and your brother in law for giving me hope. I think I can fix this on my own. Much love from Houston 🤗
How did Jay get the fat side of the tee-connector off the firewall?? I was able to get 2/3 of the ends off, but cannot get the firewall side of the connector off.
Check the video around the 1:30 mark. We had to cut it so it would come off the line to the left then he spun it so he could get his fingers on the clips to release it. Hope this helps
Thank you for making this video. It probably saved me an hour by telling me to cut that one fitting. I was an hour into trying to get those off without breaking stuff. Thanks again.
Not sure how you got the metal tube off that tee at all. You broke the tabs but did you bend that tube? It’s impossible to get the tee off with the metal tube still inserted because you can’t spin it.
Just had this fixed on my 2011 Tahoe. Wish I would've seen this first. Needed the car ASAP so the first mechanic that could do it, did it. Small coolant puddles in the garage and a bit of smoke/steam coming out from under the hood at stop lights. He Diagnosed problem via pressure test. Replaced the "T" connector and all hoses for $300. Decent deal I reckon, but DIY for probably $100
@Jarod Marquis Awe Man! That sucks. Wish you would have seen this video first but $300 is not bad since you needed it fixed quick. I would say these parts were right under the $100 mark since I did buy the OEM GM parts from the local dealership. Thanks for watching the video and commenting. I really appreciate it. Glad you got your car fixed quickly.
My heater hose broke same way but i replaced the hose and the connector only not the tee fitting only thing is mine didnt click when i pushed it in the tee fitting i kept pulling n pushing it to see if it clicks but nothing but when i pull it wont let go should it be fine?
MrNawfdallas214 thanks for watching the video. Hope it helped out. I really can’t say if that would be ok or not. Sounds like it’s fine if it hold and has not leaked under pressure. Sorry I don’t have a better answer.
$600 - $850 quotes.. but just $75 in parts. yea dude!!! do NOT pay the shop to do this.. yes, it sucks to unclip the T, but stick with it, and focus on this "wiggle the T a lot- really get up on the motor with your body, to get good leverage, and feel for those clips, definitely do what he did in the video to cut the one part of the T, just use dykes, or vice grips (I used vice grips, locked on, turned, and snapped the plastic - easy)
My 2008 Yukon Denali just has this very same failure at 165k miles. Thankfully a block from my house. I still lost 2 gallons of coolant. Had I known this was common I'd have replaced these parts ages ago.
stank618 Music Thanks for the comment and for watching the video. If I am understanding you correctly no replacing the heater hose will not affect the water pump.
Jason Maddox Dude. That has to be one of the worst places to break down. I feel your pain. Luckily my wife was on her was home when this one broke. Hope you get it fixed soon. Thanks for the view.
Chito Puff I really can’t answer that question. I didn’t drive my wife’s so I’m not sure if it would overheat or not. I would not recommend driving it.
Joshua Amerson I probably would not recommend that for a permanent fix! If I am understanding correctly You would have to connect some kind of barbed tee to the fitting on the firewall, the fitting that goes to the rear heat, and to the water pump housing. That would be 3 separate hoses and 6 total hose clamps. For an emergency this could possibly work temporarily but would take longer for the repair and possibly harder to find the proper parts. Hope this helps you and thanks for watching my video!
I just talked to Advanced and they got me a t connector for $5. I just wasn't being patient enough. Thank you and your stepbrother for the video and response!
Antonio Murray That’s awesome 👏. I like to hear stories like this. Glad we could help you save money by doing it yourself. I will be making a video soon on how to replace the exterior door handle. Thanks.

joeantonelli147 basically there was just a bunch of steam coming from under the hood. When I checked it out it was leaking antifreeze from the connector that was broke. That’s about it!

I replaced those on my 06 Yukon. It had 125K miles and figured I'd do preventive maintenance as I drive through Indio and Phoenix when it is over 110* I also replaced the heater hoses. I ended up having to get a hex saw blade and cutting off the plastic t part in order to slip it off the heater core. I could not slip it off the auxiliary hoses even after cutting off the tabs. Great video Matt, it looks like it was taken under the hood of my 2008 Yukon. I'm sure there are plenty of complaints to GM about this issue. I wonder if they are saying "There appears to be a pattern here".

We actually had this engine rebuilt at around 30k by the dealership under warranty. It was using quite a bit of oil. Even though GM May deny it I would say the main reason for this is there Active Fuel Management system.
Now that it is out of warranty we are going to get a custom tune for it that will disable the active fuel management. I hate it anyways. When you wanna press the gas and go it is so sluggish such as passing on the interstate. Hopefully the new tune will unleash some more power from the 5.3

This is not how I would recommend doing the fix. The male ends on the quick connect are not designed to be used with an aftermarket hose and hose clamps.

Fabian Mendez Thanks for the info! I will check it out!
The proper cheaper easier way is to take a 5/8 brass tee and 2 small lengths of hose and one long and 5 twist on clamps and bam fixed the right way permanently
This is not how I would recommend doing the fix. The male ends on the quick connect are not designed to be used with an aftermarket hose and hose clamps.
Matt Freytag he has no gm dealership around or even worse one auto zone. He cannot afford the price to ship it. This is shit he had lying around the barn. 😂 😂 zip tie ✅ butter knife ✅ duct tape✅........
