    James Bond was not, needless to say, the first spy hero in British fiction - far from it. One of his antecedents was Ashenden, the gentleman spy, from the semi-autobiographical stories of Somerset Maugham. BBC radio adapted five of these stories as readings for BBC Radio 7; the incomparable Alex Jennings is on narrative duties...
