I remember hearing this song and it was an unknown rare song at the tiome in the show Don Kirschner's Rock Concert anyone remember that song and the people were digging the song and it wasn't even released in record until three years later.
Wow... this is so damn great; had never heard this version before. Awesome guitar playing, just a cool tune. Thanks for posting this song (and thanks to Steve for creating it).
Wow. This is like discovering the missing link. Months before its release, the song was really just a guitar/echoplex workout over a loose groove. Then a year or so later, it was transformed into a wash of synthesizers that pretty much defined his mid-late 70's superstar phase. The change seemed so out of the blue in 1976. This gives it context and makes perfect sense. Thanks for sharing!
I agree with daredevil... when I first heard of SMB he was kind of an underground figure, only a few select hipsters were into him. After the King Biscuit radio concert and the Top 40 release of this tune, he had a string of pop/rock hits making him a household name in the 70's. Rock on Stevie Guitar Miller!
The whole concert is good. Kind of a transition time for the SMB. Some of his 60's songs blended in with up and coming big hits. He smooths out and becomes more refined shortly after this show.
let this man and his band take stage and give a class of groove to all subatomic geniuses called "celebreties" by modern standards and let there be real music...
He actually wrote the song in '73 but didn't record it until '76. That's why the lyrics and arrangement are different here than what ended up on the album.
Amazing versions from around this time. This and the King Biscuit concert are my favourites.

Steve Miller Band Fly Like An Eagle - Jan 5' 1974 ! Really Great in Concert !
I would have loved to see these guys back in the day~always thought they were great!
Strange, that this should begin with a SMB treatment of a classic Christmas carol ("God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen ...")
Great!!!
I like more the King Biscuit Flower Hour version, but this one is also very good!
Thanks a lot Cosmani1 :)

hey jim, don't make me mad ,-)
hello echo
the radio commercial version was released in 1976...toned way down[4 min].....
This couldn't be 1974 as Fly Like An Eagle wasn't released until 1976....
Yes, the album was released in May, 1976, but they gigged the song before '74.. google "Fly Like an Eagle '73"

Winterland SF
wow pretty nice i like this version and do not understand this low interest
what's the solution? eliminate the compound interest i.e. in german language: zinseszins
