  • We call it the Cheater Scythe. It's made with "metal origami," since it's a piece of folded piece of 16 gauge sheet steel with no forging. Check in later to see the testing results in a subsequent video and a series where we harvest wild grain.

In my opinion, you did a very, very good job with your metal origami! Especially on your first attempt. Literally everything you do not know about using a scythe will be taught to you by using your prototype in a wheat field for about half an hour or so; and that lesson rings true whether you fold sheet metal like this project or bang it out in the forge.
    aside:
My grandfather used to spend days teaching my brothers and I these types of basic principles on our family farm. I remember specifically a lesson where the point was more or less that a perfect primitive tool should divulge it's value to a person of average intelligence, almost talking aloud to let the user know everything about how to make it better in function, form and efficiency.
He pointed out that an observant man would be able to create a basic tool, use it a short while, and then by looking around he would identify the potential means and materials in the area by which his primitive device could be improved, obviously based upon the acceptable time given to complete the task at hand. It is this synopsis of an "ideal project" in an agricultural setting which taught me the fundamental meaning of the words "Efficiency" and "Technology."
Efficiency is the measure of energy/resources/time to complete a known task. Technology is the most advanced level of efficiency at which the average man can accomplish his specific task.
Your origami just reminded me of not only my grandfather, whom I lost 27 years ago to Cancer.
It also reminded me of who I am, why I am successful in my career, and what it means to understand my environment enough to form a primitive tool which can disclose to me every little secret of how I can get things done fast enough to get more things done. It may not sound like much to the uninformed reader, but judging by your video content I would suppose you boys know exactly what I am talking about. Don't you?
It's on that note I want you to read again my first paragraph of this comment. Realize the nod that you've been given from my grandfather, who taught me the same lesson you learned in this video and would have been equally proud of the scythe you made on your first try. I'm not the kind of man to say something like this, but I just thought suddenly that he would want me to relay all this to you and encourage you tk keep doing everything you're doing here on your channel. Also, he would argue beef jerky cooked in a Camaro would taste better than the stuff you guys made with KOR.
    Lulz.
Of course, I had to subscribe to your channel after all this. I'll see you boys around.
    Cheers!

I have been buying antique scythes and restoring them. You have given me ideas, I could just make one. Great work, really basic problem solving and I think it's great.

scythes and sickles are simply the best weed abatement tool you can have and will in many situations run circles over a weed eater or lawn mower. a standard property yard is easily maintained with one of these tools. there's YT video with a guy chopping down 12 ft high water rushes with a scythe!! th-cam.com/video/2_QBtAKYpV4/w-d-xo.html these tools are awesome for clearing a standard size badly overgrown weeded property.

You put the blade on the wrong side. The cutting edge should be facing the operator.
