Can you do a video on dying hair. I have greys at my crown but not the rest of my hair. I have dark brown hair just past my shoulders. Do I mix two different bowls? one 10 and one 20? and get two dye tubes. It just seems like I would be wasting one tube of dye for just a small amount of grey. Is there a better way to do this? Thank you@@brittneealexushair
I have been coloring my own hair for over 25 years and this is THE most helpful video I’ve ever come across! I’ve gone from permanent to Demi and back always covering greys. I get conflicting info about developer. It’s never explained well by anyone like it’s some secret so we won’t do our own color. Uhgg. You are such a jem! Thank you.
Listen.. I stumbled across this video on accident but I have been asking stylists for the last 20+ yrs and haven't gotten this comprehensive of an explanation and I was PAYING THEM! You dear are priceless and I am sooo thankful ❤
i'm so sorry to hear that :( luckily for the future i feel like us new wave stylists are more interested in furthering both our own and our clients knowledge of hair vs old school either didn't know the answers because they never questioned the "why?" just knew that "when you do this, then this happen" or even when they did know they wanted to gatekeep the ancestors. i think youtube videos like this are a big reason why actually. it shifted the stylist culture into a more hospitable, educational, caring environment in the salons vs just trying to get people in and out so avoiding questions to maximize profit like we're taught to in school bc that's how they've always done things before us
This wasn't even the video I was looking for, but I HAD to give the video a like simply because you jumped straight to the point from the beginning. I love it!
Last year I used a 50% Deevelopee at home, 1 hour + some change , 1st time ever bleaching my hair, to remove 4 layers of recently dyed hair (blue, green, red, black, brown). Scarest thing ever! and it Worked!!!! I used foils too. Love my blonde hair. ❤ but do no know if I would have the courage to repeat that. So glad my hair is a beast.
Thank you so much explaining the developer number. I’m trying to get rid of red dye and go back to my blonde hair. I got 30volume and now I’m glad I did!
LOVE this channel! You explain these hair topics so clearly! I learn more from you than my time in cosmetology school!! A very big thank you!!! Oh, and your ear(s) look great!!
you just might be the best hair teacher along side Katie from Bobby Hair Studio that I’ve seen. Katie do more demonstrations on the salon, you also teach, clearly and objectively. I wish your channel had appeared to me last year when I started bleaching my hair at home. You give a lot of information and you are straight to the point. Simple without implying we are dumb. I really liked your videos. Congratulations! And thank you for your work. 👍♥️ God bless you.
Your channel is always THE BEST option w for hair related tips! From hair color to hair extensions; you break it down in a way everyone understands. I learned more about developers from you in this video than I have from other sources in the last 20 years. Thank you so much for your contribution to at home hair care! You're amazing ❤
So glad you are back with hair stuff! Even though I love all your stuff. So my question…. I am thinking about trying a 10 or 12 blonde. Should I use 30 volume with those hilift colors. A # 9 always seems to pull orange or bronze for me and I hate it. I do have a few grays. Thank you. 😊❤
This video was so informative, thank you. A hairstylist friend told me that I could water down my developer if I needed something less strong and it turns out I only need about 8% to color my curly, porous gray so I’m able to do it at home and use just enough developer to cover my roots and cause the least amount of damage possible. But it’s so helpful to have all this context and information to understand what’s going on!
Tyy, I found this video cause i was searching if low and slow would be better 😂 got my answer 5 minutes in. I have dark hair but 20 vol has me super blonde in just 15 minutes. As a non stylist that doesnt move that fast, its soo stressful. Going with 10 vol.
I normally go with 10. I can't move fast enough for a twenty and I don't want damage. I usually do 10 vol and developer twice, 2 days apart for desired blond. Works every time for me😊
I'm glad I found your channel. I've learned more from you in 7mins than any stylist ever told me on how to cover my grey coverage ugh!😝 Thanks for this video

Been watching you for about a year. Glad I bumped into the 2014 hair series. Learning as much as possible before school as to have a concepts of what I'm doing. I would love to see you use Ion color brilliance Brights Semi permanent.
@@brittneealexushair You are so welcome. I wish I could give more but the dollar is almost 6 to 1 in my country’s currency. So expensive! But I wanted you to know you deserved more.

How to make developer thick and creamy ? What makes developer creme? What ingredients to add to developer liquid so I can turn it into creme without returning it
So when you say it (lifts) what is it lifting. No one ever explains what it’s lifting. The natural hair color? Not already colored hair? And does 20,30 change the color that your depositing from the tube?
thank you so much for not giving up on hair content. greetings from Poland btw i am preparing myself to doing an air touch on myself xD all i am missing is a strong dryer with a narrrrow nozzle. i even ordered a wig in case hahaha do you have any tips?

I have a split dye half is black half is red. If I am wanting to now go all black. I have a little bit of gray at the top where the roots are. Is it OK to use the 20 or should I stick with the 10?
You’ve just explained that beautifully! Question ~ I have hot roots (not sure of exact reason) I’m having a hell of a time getting them to blend with my medium cool brown hair. Are you thinking 10v developer? I’ve been trying to find the volume of my L’Oréal box ~ hard to get an accurate answer. Thank you for your knowledge and for the way you share it.
I love how you explain things! I cut my hait this morning usibg your video from tour orher channel. I'm so impressed! Thank you! When my hair gets done, ive been told they just use toner so "I dont go ginger" (Inave a lot of red tones). Its definitely only one tube they squeeze into the bowl before brushing onto the foils. Is this actually right? Indont have a harsh colour change, it just lightens my roots like Ive been out in the sun for a month.
I’ve never had my hair colored and going to attempt some at home highlights. I’m a dark blonde. I bought 10 volume because I don’t want to damage my hair or go too crazy. Now I’m thinking I should have gone 20
Great video, thank you for the very detailed explanation! I bleach my buzz cut at home. Because my hair is so short I can use 30 volume. I would describe my natural color as very light brown or dark (dishwater blonde). My scalp is not sensitive so I can leave the bleach on for the full time of 55 minutes and the result is a very pale yellow (light the inside of a banana). My question is regarding toner. I can not seem to find a toner that will get me to that perfect white platinum you see with a lot of beautiful blonde buzz cuts. I have used T18 toner but it seems to wash out very quickly and I still have pale yellow. Purple shampoo's (I've tried to many to count) do absolutely nothing to get the yellow out for some reason. I follow the instructions on the toner and use with 20 volume for about 15 minutes. If I leave it on any longer then my hair turns purple, not platinum. So frustrating! I have also tried Ugly Duckling professional brand high lift color in 100V. It says it will lift 2-3 levels using 30 volume. I pretty much am getting the same result. Am I missing something I could be doing or maybe a different brand toner?
What if I’m dying my hair darker, from a dirty blonde to dark brown, but I have a few grays (very little but still there) would I still use a 20? My hair pulls so red anytime I dye and I was thinking that with a 10 vol it wouldn’t do that. However, I don’t want my grays popping out even more than before! Help! Haha
Just from this one video, I subbed. You are amazing at explaining this. I have a question: I went to a salon and she balayaged my hair, but it did not lift to the blonde I wanted. I paid and left unsatisfied (I have been going to this lady for about 6 years, she does amazing highlights but not so good on painting the hair without foils). So here I have yellow hair (level 8), I purchased T18 and a 10-cream developer. You are the second video I watched (the first was Brad Mando). Can you tell me if I have to avoid the dark parts of my hair and only place it on the yellow? And if I get it on my roots, will it lighten? I only want to remove the yellowness. I can accomplish this with purple shampoo, but it washes out and I am looking for something more permanent. Thank you in advance!
yes, you will want to avoid the dark parts- it will lift it to an orange/brass- it will not look great. only put it on the blonde parts of the hair. If you are nervous about getting it on the darker parts, you can put conditioner on those parts to act as a barrier cream

Plus its also lifts the hair scales, so the pigments can penetrate. Basically opens and empties the hair to be refiled
