Aaaah, what a delight to see Mortal Shell be mentioned here! There's a 3D beat-em-up/kinda-soulslike game from 2023 called Clash: Artifacts of Chaos that has a mechanic that may remind you of Mortal Shell too. When you get defeated in your normal body, you return as a kind of avatar of your consciousness and you have to defeat the enemies to wake the protagonist back up. There's special body parts that serve as armor to find in the nighttime. It's not as in-depth as Mortal Shell, instead there's focus on mechanics like finding different martial arts styles that all have unique animation movesets. And an optional short pre-battle dice game you can play with any sapient enemy. Winner gets to enforce a special condition on the upcoming fight. Like the loser being chased around by a swarm of hornets, meaning they'll loose health if they stand still. Or summoning fog, and only the winner being allowed to wear fog-piercing glasses. Awesome art, awesome music (main character has caveman ritual rock music for his themes) good story and good game. Can warmly recommend.
