    This is seriously the best guide I've found about this game ever. Thanks for the slides and not shying away from explaining a role to beginner's. Every other guide I've found just says "you're new it doesn't matter"... here I can actually gain an understanding, even if basic, about the role I'm placed in.

    I love how every other role has all of these technical elements as to why you might like to play them and Offlane is basically just: "You thrive on the pain and misery of other people. Here little Timmy; have a hammer: go ruin that other kids day"

    The last part spoke straight from my soul. I started playing with friends and they pretty much pushed me into the support role because they didnt want me to lose as a Core position. After that they flamed me for not warding.

    I have never in my life played dota, but I’ve played many adjacent team games and especially related mobas like Smite and League. I cannot tell you why I came across this video or clicked on it, but this is honestly one of the best informative game videos I think I know of. The clarity and openness to starting dota is really nice to see in gaming. I honestly am considering playing it after seeing this because of how clearly you explained how the roles work. I typically come from a background of playing both hard carry type roles (bot lane in league/adc in smite) but being able to contextualize why I play those roles and where they fit into the granddaddy of mobas is really enlightening. I honestly am considering picking up pos4 or 2 when I decide to start dota now Bc I’ve become more of a leader role in other team games I’ve picked up since moving on from league and smite.
    Overall I am super grateful the algorithm gave me this video

      Yeah, I think playing bot games is a good way to get into the game and cover some basics! It's not perfect, but I think you can at least get familiar with the game if you're brand new. And honestly learning how to beat the highest difficulty of bots will mean you have a starting threshold of skills to use against real players

    So in comparison to League:
    Hard Carry - Assasins/Bruisers/AD carries
    Offlaner - Juggernaut/Skirmishers
    Midlaners - AP carries
    Hard Support - Enchanters/Wardens
    Soft Support - Junglers/Vanguards

    The main thing that just looks off from this is that the hard carry will be against 2 supports, so surely they will get stomped all game and give the carry a lot of farm. Doesn't this create massive issues? who would want to be an off-laner when your job is basically I guess last hit your own minions to try your best to stop the carry from funneling, and the 2 palyers on the most important roles for carrying never interact until after laning. And if 1 of the people in the off-lane tends to roam you then have 1 support soloing a hard carry and I'm guessing somebody with CC, so they'll be camping under tower the whole game.

    My friend recently introduced me to dota, and he's been so good at helping me become better. We usually play single draft (my choice) i think its pretty fun and i believe that it helps me learn more heroes. He always made me go for a carry hero at first and he used to ward and pull and stack and help me farm. However, ive started liking supporting more and im enjoying the game a lot. So ya guess i got a helpful friend (:

    In my opinion support players are very knowledgeable about the game mechanics and very versatile role. There are numerous of times that support players are giving the enemy team a hard time during clash and farming due to they can spam skills and itema lls during clash plus they do warding and dewarding for both offensive and defensive

  • @elmeromogollon
    @elmeromogollon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In league you also have to farm for at least 20 minutes if you play the carry, but people just dont understand how important farming is so your adc is useless most of the time, this is way better, funneling gold into one person.

    I’m brand new coming from league and I’m having a hard time grasping when it’s okay to jungle and not. You put 4 in the jungle but called it soft support _ would I stand off to the side letting the off laner soak more than me? Is there a list of which champion is which for positions?

    • @ZQuixotix
      @ZQuixotix  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      In regards to jungling, jungling in the League sense of the word is generally considered bad for at least the first 10 minutes on supports. Enigma might do it, but most of your pub games would not be familiar with that strategy and you might not do so well. Chen, Enchantress, Doom, and sometimes Crystal Maiden might spend a bit of time killing jungle creeps or controlling them as they go about other things, but they wouldn't dedicate consecutive minutes to it. It's like a brief moment as they do other things. Instead of jungling like in LoL, supports will do pulls to control lane equilibrium. This denies your creeps to the enemy, but then you also get a chance to get the last hit on the jungle creeps for gold/xp.
      If you're new to the game, my advice is to treat the 4 position very similarly to the 5 position. You'll play in the lane like a 5 support, trying to give a bit more experience to the offlaner than yourself. Harass the enemy heroes, if the 5 support tries to pull you go and stop them. You are more likely to go roam and help your midlaner (or even your own safelane), whereas 5 supports tend to stay in their own lane a bit more.
      I don't know of an exact list of heroes for each role, sorry :( Dota is pretty flexible, so that list would be constantly going through small adjustments

    So what im understanding is...
    The HARD CARRY (1) is the baby and the HARD SUPPORT (5) is the babysitter protecting the baby until it grows to be a big strong carry.
    The MID (2) is the father allowing the family to progress and set up everyones future.
    The OFFLANER (3) is the big brother who is usually a bully but shows some support once and a while.
    And the SOFT SUPPORT (4) is the mother who protects and helps everyone in the family.

    Decent guide but there are some VERY important things missing, such as:
    1. pick hard carry last, because you dont want enemy to hard counter you even before the game begin
    2. if you dont play in a party, it's recommended to pick strong lane dominators, tanky units or units with escape mechanics so you dont end up getting killed over and over again.
    I find these 2 points VERY important for new players, because they often end up dying a lot, thinking it's their team fault for not protecting them.

    I play a lot of league. A coworker was just trying to explain the concept of pulling to me for like 30 minutes. Y'all baby the hell out of your carries and bust your humps as supports dear god.
    I had to spend 30 minutes explaining to him that we do literally nothing for our carries because that's what is most helpful. Don't ask them to go to the jg or roam. Don't hit minions let them manage the wave. Supports are there to get hit instead, or sit on the enemy while the carry hits them.

    good video. too bad dota is shit at matchmaking and puts me into norm games at level 1 against level 800's every fucking game so i cant learn shit or get rewards so i have to resort to bots where i learn even less mechanically

    I've got some experience with DOTA 2, but I think that this video has *a lot* of great information and I'll certainly watch your other videos on the new player stuff.

    One thing I don't understand about this guide (awesome guide btw) is when you show the do's, enable's, and stop's some of the roles have a do and a stop on the same like row of buttons so could someone elaborate?

      It's hard to generalize a game as complicated as Dota, so don't take these as hard rules. Let's take farming as an example. A mid hero like Storm Spirit wants to farm for himself. However, by choosing to farm on the enemy's half of the map, he could try to steal farm from the enemy, thereby reducing the enemy's farm while getting his own. Or he might choose to stop farming to get a kill. If he can kill the enemy carry, that would be great to stop them from farming. You are never only doing one thing in Dota. Trying to choose plays that accomplish multiple goals is the ideal plan usually

    hi, i'm a fairly new player, i don't get why io and visage were shown on POS 2, they totally feel like a POS 5 to me

    • @ZQuixotix
      @ZQuixotix  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're not wrong! IO is more common to see in the position 4 or 5 role, but it's possible to do core IO. It used to be really strong, and it's still technically viable but extremely uncommon. Visage goes between being a support or a core. Right now it's more common to see him as a midlaner though to get levels quickly and start killing people with his ultimate

    picking a role does nothing, no matter what u do, ur support will steal farm, not buy wards, not pull, not pick up gold runes, wont play the lane he is supposed to be in, not pick anything other than a carry or do anything else that has do with the things a support should do, no one will ban him and everyone will expect all of those things from u when u play support, and that is then called reality, or the difference between theory and practice, gl hf
