Sunset to Sunrise Time Lapse - Oregon Star Party - August 23, 2014

- This video, taken on the last night of the Oregon Star Party, starts out with the camera pointed at the main viewing area at sunset. As it gets dark, you can see all the red lights people use to work their telescopes without losing their night vision.
The camera pans around to the sunrise the next morning, showing Jupiter and then Venus rising right before the sun. The crescent moon probably rose behind a tree, or it would have been visible. Then you can see people breaking camp and driving away on Sunday morning.
This is the first time I've captured the sun setting and rising in the same time lapse video using a horizontal Ioptron SkyTracker for panning.

Can someone please tell me something real quick? Ok so yk that the sun emits light right? But like throughout the day does the sun release more or does it stay the same? So for example if your at the beach and the sun is shining and the a gush of light shines. Does that happen? Cuz I saw it happen today

Stunning! In addition to the horizontal Iopton SkyTracker, are you using something to control your exposure like qdlsrdashboard and LRTimelapse? (being from Nova Scotia I'm envious of your weather as well :)
Exposure control is done inside the camera with CHDK. A script measures the brightness of each image while it's still in the camera and adjusts the exposure of the next image in 1/96 ev increments, so there's no flashing or LRTimelapse correction needed.
For this video, I processed the images in Lightroom with different settings for evening, night, and morning, and blended the 3 tracks together in the final video.
CHDK only works with Canon point and shoots, but that includes the G1X and SX50 which get close to DSLR quality.

Fantastic. Made with G1X? What is the maximum Tv and ISO value?
The exposure goes from 1/900 second, ISO 100 during the day to 30 seconds, ISO 1600 at night. The aperture is 2.6 (maximum) for the entire time. The G1X has a built in ND filter which automatically switches in during the day, and out at night.
The shot interval is 5 seconds during the day, but goes to 30.25 seconds at night because of the 30 second exposure time. I slowed the playback frame rate to 15 fps at night so it didn't speed up so much.
DrLapser I have an S110 and a G1X since 3 month as well. I am really enjoying watching your timelapse.
When I’m using exposure from 30s, the noise reduction increases the interval to 60s. I have not found a menu, to switch it off. How do you handle these?
The exposer in all your timelapse is very well controlled. Especially timelapse with sun. I tried to write a CHDK script, but it doesn’t work very well. Do you using a standard script or you writing your own one? I would be really interested of it…
I use an experimental script and custom CHDK build for the exposure changes, but if you're just doing night photos, all you need is a script that holds the shutter down in continuous mode using manual exposure and manual focus. Also, look through the CHDK menu for "Dark Frame Subtraction". There's an option to turn that off.
Hello DrLapser, I have a question. I just finished shooting a short film and now currently editing it. I just discovered this time lapse video that you uploaded on youtube. Would you allow me to download it from youtube and insert that time lapse video into my short film? Because I am looking for a short sunrise time lapse, since that will take place in between the transition from night to morning in the short film, and the time lapse video that you have on youtube is exactly what I have been looking for.

The camera is on a horizontal Ioptron SkyTracker that rotates once a day. It's designed to track stars, but if you make it horizontal, it pans.
