Since you guys got to the Ishval flashback episode, I will be sharing some details that did not make it into the show as the anime sadly (But for some, fortunately) removed scenes in order to fit into the timeframe. These scenes are not in order, I am just listing off the ones I remember. The scene with Armstrong creating the wall has an added scene where after the soldiers picked off the Ishvalans he is shambling through the bodies, naturally in a haze having to have helped execute them. However, he hears a noise and gets into a fighting stance thinking it is a survivor wanting to fight. To his surprise and relief, it is not one survivor but two, a woman and an elderly woman (Possibly her mother). Seeing a chance to redeem himself and wanting to try to give help, he blows a hole in the wall and instructs them to leave immediately and to warn others to evacuate the area if they are still in the vicinity. Watching them leave, he momentarily finds peace until Kimblee blows them away and Armstrong falls to his knees, the former showing relief that he was able to cover Armstrong and save him from being court martialed. The scene where the Ishvalan priests surrenders and tries to negotiate with Bradley has some additional dialogue and an extra scene, one that I felt was really needed to show the Amestrian military was not entirely a hive mind with the extermination. Hughs and Grasque Brande (The Iron and Blood Alchemist, dude with the fancy gauntlets) reports the Ishvalan priests surrendering and wishing to engage in diplomacy with his commanding officer, who is immediately chastising him and telling him to keep fighting. Brasque, annoyed, tells the officer, "Hey, did you know that 20% of casualties on the battlefield is because of friendly fire?" before shooting him in the chest. Everyone in the room proceeds to go, "It was a stray bullet," "Yep, that is what I saw." And they lead the priests to Bradley, hoping to finally put an end to this war. There is a dialogue exchange between Marcoh and Knox, the two discussing the ethics of using their medical expertise for such purposes and why. I cannot recall what exactly they are talking about but I do remember that they are being forced to use their medical skills in experiments on the fields. Using live subjects. Captured subjects. Yeah, there is a reason why Marcoh fled and Knox started having nightmares. _This last one I actually do not remember if it shows up later in the anime so if it does, ignore as I do not want to have it spoiled._ Winry's parents, Yiriy (Father) and Sarah (Mother), are struggling to treat patients due to the lack of medicine as they cannot perform effective or in some cases actual surgeries to treat patients; few of whom even refuse to be treated by them due to being Amestrian, though they still treat them. After getting their latest (And likely last) batch of medicine and bandages from their supplier, he informs them that the military plans to exterminate the entire region and warns them to leave with him quickly so they do not get caught in the crossfire. They instead choose to stay, not wanting to abandon these people and upset Winry as they knew she'd be upset that they left helpless people behind. And so, they continued treating Ishvalans, both civilian and belligerent, until the day Scar came along. We all know that flashback. From the other side, Kimblee is given reports from an officer about two Amestrian doctors volunteering to treat Ishvalan patients (Yiriy and Sarah) and orders them to extract them. However, he also discreetly says that if "accidents" happen, then so be it. After arriving at the Rockbell's makeshift hospital, he finds it abandoned; Yiriy and Sarah are already dead, the patients fled, and Scar is gone. There is possibly a few more scenes that I am missing but that is what I can recall not included in the anime.
I love how much y'all relate the war in Ishval to real life because it's clear this sort of thing has been happening for decades and the inspiration for the writer is clear as well.
Alchemy is the science of this world. Anyone can learn it, but it requires A LOT of studying and understanding. That's why most alchemists tend to specialize in a field (Roy: flames) rather than being super skilled in everything.
Lust is a very different character with a different narrative purpose in 2003 FMA. They are not the same characters. Hoenheim specifically is pretty different, for example. Watching a background in 2003's FMA doesn't inform in FMA:B's because they are different people
The reason Dr Knox separated from his family was elaborated on more in the manga; and it's pretty tragic. After the war, Knox was struggling with severe PTSD over the things he was ordered to do. His wife tried to help him through it, but it got so bad that eventually they decided they should separate for her and their son's safety.
Just so you know. Don't mix it. 2003 anime had a completely different origin for the humanculi. So the way Lust was created in 2003 has nothing to do with THIS Lust. She was just "birthed" by Father like every other humanculus minus Wrath and current Greed
Just to reiterate what someone else mentioned in this comment section, the origins of the Homunculi in both the manga and Brotherhood are completely different from the 2003 anime 😅. Unlike in the latter series, the Homunculi here all originated from and were created by Father, save for Wrath and the second incarnation of Greed. In the lore of the manga/ Brotherhood, Homunculi are beings created from scratch by alchemy via the use of Philosopher’s Stones, hence why they're considered taboo for practitioners given the "ingredients" needed to create said Stones. However, Wrath and the second Greed are both Human-based Homunculi, as they're products of Philosopher’s Stones being embedded into and reconfigurating the bodies of normal human beings. Not wanting to give away too much info pertaining to how Homunculi are created in the 03 version, but just know that they have a similar nature to how the latter two Homunculi were created. Though the means of how this happens is completely different in the 03 anime, and is far more morbid.
15:30 just so you know that backstory was totally made up for the 2003 anime, it somewhat fallows the manga until the espisode 25 then everything else is anime original and not in the source material
Alchemy is both magic and science in fma It's almost like trying to get a master degree in a field of science, anyone COULD do it, but most won't get far and majority who can choose one path to go down, so if you go for explosion alchemy you basically can't do anything else
This is somehow my favorite two three episodes in this series. Seeing the war in Ishval and seeing why scar is Scar and how each Alchemist worked and why they are how they are. Some of my favorite moments for Riza and Crew. Also getting to see Brigadier General Maes Hughes even just in flashback

He told them that the Emperor is looking for immortality and will raise any child successful in finding it to prime heir status if they come to him with evidence. It is not selfish to try to save your family. The idea for both Ling and Mei is that they are at risk should they lose the open-fight for succession. Mei's clan is small and struggling and may not survive another generation without a status boost. Ling Yao might be endangered as a son if he doesn't win. He would be a rival to anyone in real-life.
I'm chatty sue me. Pat weve seen Bradley go against multiple opponents with no difficulty. Roy Ed would have died for sure. Mae had she fought would have probably also been sliced to smaller piece. Man is on an entirely different level. At this point no one characters we know can take him
navi confusing everybody with non canon backstory. The original anime had many non canon elements because it was being animated while the manga was still very early on and the story wasnt fully there yet. In the original anime the homunculi have made up origins that are not at all what the canon story and brotherhood are.
