Josh Turner and Carson McKee with two acoustic guitars produce some of the finest live music you can watch on youtube at the moment... and I don't say that lightly. These guys are at the very top of their game.
I have to disagree with “top of their game”. These guys, along with their equally talented group of friends/collaborators, are still young. I keep watching them improve and evolve year after year with delight and amazement. I’m quite certain these fine musicians haven’t even come close to peaking yet!
There’s just something magical about this setup of two people playing and singing directly into the same microphone. Really gives you that in person feeling
I think their voices were recorded in an studio, because I can hear the sound in stereo, Josh at left and Carson at right channel. I mean, probably they used the sound of the video recording as ambiental sound but also layered with a studio recording of each voice. Or maybe it was recorded with some kind of bidirectional stereo microphone (¿?) Anyways, it's sound amazing, organic, real and very intimate. Loved it

The two capsules are directed 90 degrees apart such that the separate right and left channels of stereo can be recorded from a "single" microphone.

Linda Ronstadt rose to fame in the '70s by doing covers of hits. Her vocals and interpretations were so unique and so damn good that listeners bought the music even though they were covers. The Other Favorites' covers are every bit as unique in musicianship, arrangement, and interpretation as Linda's were nearly 50 years ago. Guys, I love your music and will show up to listen to your covers--I don't do this for any other artists on youtube.
I put aside what I was doing and spent the last half hour watching this, over and over. What a great interpretation; there are so many musical delights here. And just a beautiful video as well, with the falling leaves and the unusual hue and saturation of the colors. Thank you, guys, once again.
You've done it again, and I love it. I'm fully convinced that you can take any soulful song, and add a touch of bluegrass to it, and it becomes your own. I mentioned on your fantastic cover of "Black Water" that you are saving an entire generation of great songs. As The Steve Miller Band said in their classic 1977 hit "Jet Airliner" (hint, hint), all you have to do is "keep on, keepin' on" whether it's you and Carson as The Other Favorites, or a group collaboration with the "fab four", you're are giving these songs a new lease on life.
That was beyond amazing -- please, please, please record that in the studio. I loved Carson's fills (no clue what the proper term is), they give the sound such a delicate depth. The a cappella finish was perfect and the harmonies were (as always) just grand. So very well done, thank you!
