- The Yamaha RX 135 5 Speed is the most powerful RX. I have seen many converted 5-speeds in and around hyderabad, i have come to a conclusion, in this video i share my experience with the 5speed and how it is different than the other RX series.

I've made some mistakes in the video. Thankfully Anand Prasad corrected me.
Here are the things that i got wrong -
1. 5 speed was never in production after early 2002 only rxz 5 speed was.
2. Rx production ceased in 2002 and only the left overs we're sold in the market and again it only came back with 2004 model the center lock model which had round meters (basically people call it as tiger but it's not tiger. Tiger is different bike which was available in 1999 with square meters like cd100 and blackbody indicators)
3. 5 speed has following mechanically different parts cylinder block, head, gearbox, carburettor and complete ignition kit and the life of the catcon is 30k kms after that it's as dumb as any silencer from there on it doesn't refines any exhaust gas and it's the most restricted exhaust of all Rx silencers.
4. 5speed has different Sprockets and it has more number of chain links.

Thanks for the video Motosoul..i too own a 2000 make RX 135 5 speed and the joy in owning and riding can't be expressed with words..As you rightly quoted, 4 speed always felt like wanting one more gear above speeds of 60 kmph..5 speed correctly covers that..

A very nice and detailed review. I own a 2000 5 speed and i second everything you have said about 5 speed. I used to own 4 speed before and that was my 1st bike. Sold to a friend of mine to buy 5 speed. Thoroughly enjoying.

Looking forward to more great content, although I wanted to know if you could make a video if one could actually differentiate between an original 5 speed and a converted 5 speed? The 5 speed version wasn't sold here in Philippines. Thr version we got here was the RXT 135, same as the RX 135 4 speed. It's only a 4 speed RX version, but that bike was pretty fast. I tried it so many times around manila back in the early 2000s, 150 cc 4 stoke 5 speeds can't even chase it on its stock condition. The 4 speed was a drag race king here in the Philippines back in the early 2000s where the norm was only 4 and 5 speed bikes til such time came where the drag race category was dominated by 6 speed 4 stroke DOHC type of bikes like Satria FU 150 also known as the Raider 150 here in Philippines and there came Yamaha Sniper 135 which was discontinued and replaced by its bigger version which is the Y15Zr or Sniper 150. Such a good story behind these bikes, i'm glad I got the chance to try the rx 135 and I will be grateful to have the original 5 speed rx but unfortunately, that is not available here in Philippines and it is hard to find one in a good condition, even the rx 4 speed is hard to find now.
For a performance like original 5speed....we need to convert all the engine block, cdi and even blockhead and carburetor is different....from experience...the 5speed setup is bad in low end...but can be solve with sprocket setups but will lose top end....i like 4speed setups for city use...putting 5s gearbox with not changing other parts is like having a little bit very little bit smaller 4th gear
Amazing bike! The 5 speed is the most engaging two stroke bike to ride on open highways.
It lacks initial pickup, but the top end is just mind blowing. It can pop a power wheelie even in 5th gear. But, it is also the worst sounding RX. For short distance city riding, the RX100 and SUZUKI SHOGUN are the best.

My gearbox starts making a wierd noise after riding hard for a while, like 2 metals rubbing over each other, d gears have become hard to downshift! Cud you tell wat might b d problem? D sound just vanishes wen I take it to d garage
Clutch plates maybe. But mechanic would be the best person to check your bike

Don't under estimate the BEAST RX100...RX 135 is a good bike ...there is no objection...but don't under estimate other 2 strokes.....135 is younger to 100....# otherwise..nice video bro....thank u

It was my long back dream to own a five speed...finally i bought it from new Delhi for just 7k...thanx to ngt ban on 15een old vehicles...also bought a black color honda city type 2 vetec for just 25k in new Delhi...ngt's ban fulfilled the desires of people like me.

Hai man.. I had bought an rx135 5 speed..but the price was too expensive so , the seller told me that he will convert the 5 speed into 4 speed ... So I get a cut of 20k . He told the gear box will be changed , cat will also be changed . So I said yes with lack of knowledge...but I'm realy missing the 5speed + the cat .. very much..,I had test rided the 5 speed it was so nice , refined calm bike. AFTER its convertion to 4 speed it has changed a lot it has become an absolute monster, it's just scares in cities..I'm still afraid to ride with pillion, it power whellies like shit.but in open roads we miss those 5th gear..it's very hard to push 4 speed to 100, we need to apply ton amount of pressure , So I'm planning to convert it to 5 speed , is it a good descion because, my rx is orginal 5 speed so can I get the old feeling of 5 speed?

Yes you can install 5 speed gear box but not 6 speed gear box

Piston is the same. Rings are different.
Carb, Oil Pump, Head, Alternator, Pulsar Coil, footrest bars, are also different among other things.
I hav converted my 4speeder to 5speeder including 5speed bore,carb,head,cdi, ignition,chain sprocket,gearbox and runs like an authentic 5speed

Akshay Java you will feel more power if you use normal silencer and there is no side effects at all so go for it.

I don't think there will be any difference in power or mileage but it would sound different
my mechanic is constantly nagging me to convert my rx 135 4 speed to rx 100 saying it is a much smoother bike, with more power, lesser vibration and more fuel efficient bike. Is it true, as all I learned from you is RX 135 is equally good motorcycle though a little under rated. should I go ahead with such a conversion, or I should leave things as it is.
+RoyMeraki +RoyMeraki leave it as it is. But if you want to convert your rx135 into 100 then you can do that without changing the rx135's crank. Latte machine guys will fit the 135's connecting rod into 100's. So if you plan to revert back to stock 135 you just have to change the engine cylinder, piston, sprockets. Its better if you change the silencer too. Rx100 and rx135's silencers are different.
Instead of doing all this you can get an rx100 if you want that exhaust note. If your not fan of loud noisy rx then stick with 135. If you adore that beautiful sound then go for the rx100. It will save you alot of work. Converting these machines needs precision.

+RoyMeraki 135 5speed is the smoothest. Followed by rx135 4speed. But rx100 has its own charm. If perfectly built it is also smooth but not comparable to 135 in smoothness
