I'm going to attempt to dye a 95% polyester 5% elastane garment soon and there are literally zero videos of this experiment out there besides this one so thank you so much for sharing it!
Thank you this was a great tutorial. I had never used the dye before and I almost went to tear the dye sachet 😂 thank goodness I watched the video and found out it was soluble
For synthetic clothing, the maximum temperature is 60 ° C. It is indicated everywhere. If my clothes go bad at your recommended temperature of 100°C? 🤫
May I suggest something to help you not have dye all over your cooker top. Place silver foil over the acrylic top of your cooker leaving only the rings and metal frames uncovered. It helps keep the cooker clean when cooking, so why not try this when dyeing.
Thank you very much! Now i have pretty much of an idea how it works and the resolut comes out! This Video is much of a help! Nice work! But how much water did you use? Thanks a lot! ...
Hi please help asap I need to dye a 95% polyester 5% spandex white bandage dress to a blue or black even. Do you think it’ll be ruined by dying or even take the color?
Apologies for the late reply - no it won't be ruined if you use the correct dye for that - i would used polyester dye. SOmeone else recommended you need double the amount of dye to make it work for the deeper colours.
I recommend using a stock pot. I use a 10 litre stock pot which is nice and deep and helps avoid too much splatter. I've done curtains in it (1 at a time of course) but kept them on a slow roll/boil for a little longer than the time recommended so that I didn't have to keep immersing them with the spoon so often. Great size for doing tops, small linens etc. Wouldn't recommend doing jeans as I found the legs tended to trap too much air in them when they were submersed so, I pretty much had to spend the whole time standing there, trying to push out the air without splopping it everywhere in an effort to ensure the material was evenly immersed, all the time. The bigger the pot, the easier the dying process. Am looking forward to getting as massive a stock pot as possible cuz it's so fun and so rewarding. Great vid! Glad your stove survived. :D
I think you did it great! I don’t think leaving it on any longer would have made a big difference. I would describe my skills as intermediate, I don’t use ipoly because I just don’t feel the colours are representative of the colour illustrated on the packet. I used their aqua and got baby blue... it wasn’t a lighter shade, it was a completely different colour! I use RitDyemore now, I customise all my colours into specific shades and my fabrics look amazing!! I beat all my competitors because they can’t match my shades 😉
Yes, as long as the colour is darker than red. It would also change the colour displayed, so be prepared for the final colour to be slightly different than the one on the packet. And - make sure you use the right type of dye for the satin fabric!
Sorry to hear that - do you mean 5 bottles and 5 shirts at once? I would have done 1 shirt at a time maybe? In addition, make sure the fabric you are using matches the dye type.

How did it come out?
You are welcome! How did your experiment go?

Yes, very soluble, as you can see when i left the pot on top of it :( haha!
Well I have an apricot top I want to dye. People say the Rit brand doesn't work on polyester. So gonna give it a go

Thanks for showing how much mess this creates 😂😂😂 think i might give it a miss now lol

I can't really say sorry.... about that - i think just making sure i had enough liquid to cover the garment.

what does happen to elastan, i am worried about the high temperatures 😬
Seemed all fine in my case.
That was a great tutorial, thank you so much!
Were you able to clean the pot afterwards? I would hate to have to throw it away
Just use it for dying… why are u worried about the pot…. No one is going to cook in a pot they use for dye. How dumb.
Very helpful, thank you!
Did your dress shrink? I want to dye a polyester and polyester lace dress, but I don’t want it to shrink
Did you do it ?
No I didn't notice any shrinking at all. Except now, now the dress is 4 sizes too small, seeing as I made this video 4-5 years ago :)
Have changed yours dress size after the boiling in the hot water?
Thanks beforehand to you and have a good day..
No, i didn't notice any change to the dress sizing
Can l dye a red satin gown to another color
Yes, as long as the colour is darker than red. It would also change the colour displayed, so be prepared for the final colour to be slightly different than the one on the packet. And - make sure you use the right type of dye for the satin fabric!
Used a 10 gallon pot with 5 bottles and 5 shirts followed directions and I did it for 1 1/2 hours still didn't work
Sorry to hear that - do you mean 5 bottles and 5 shirts at once? I would have done 1 shirt at a time maybe? In addition, make sure the fabric you are using matches the dye type.
What size pot did you use? I’m going to be getting a catsuit, so how big of a pot should I get?
Sorry for the late reply! use a BIGGER pot than i did - this is a short dress and the pot was a decent size. You will need a cauldron basically
I would recommend a 7-8 l pot don't do to much water in it. So it can't run over and the more water the more lighter the colour!...
Thank you so much!!
Did you turn off the stove when you put the dress in? Or do you need to keep the water boiling during this step?
I kept it boiling I think, but turned it down. Waaaaay down. It splattered everywhere :(
Was the thread polyester as well? Came out great
done the Aussie way!!!
Yes... in Australia... but the KIWI way ;)
You need to use at least twice the amount of dye for deep and intense colors.
❤
