I use the TimeFactor for a few reasons. It don't color my origin tone. Sounds great. And you can use the two delays with totally different settings in all different modes.
@@samoakley4360 you can't, I think he meant you could use different settings for two delays in any mode you choose, the mode is the same but different delay time and feedback
I've got both of these pedals sort of. I have the Eventide H9. Both have quality delay algorithms. I end up using the Eventide 80 percent of the time but the Timeline is a great box and seems to do ambient delays a little better than the eventide. For most of my purposes the Eventide sounds superior. I find that the timeline sounds a little thin which is good for somethings and not for others. Great demo though.
You can tell that the strymon keeps the dry analog, and the eventide converts the dry to digital when on. That makes the strymon repeats sound behind (or next to) the dry signal. Whereas the eventide sounds more like the repeats and the dry are at the same place in the soundstage.
That has some benefits too though. For me, the Strymon doesn't suck any of the tone whereas the Eventide does just a bit. Not only that but you can get them sounding together in the soundstage on the Strymon with some simple tweaking of the mix knob.
Thanks for this. Reinforces my belief that the Strymon is the best pedal for me. Eventide is a bit "effect-y", whereas the Timeline sounds more natural and subtle.
Both are excellent sounding delay pedal.. but here are my conclusions Timefactor : Very pristine and clear sounding delay machine on almost all modes, especially the digital mode! It has more punch on the repeats (based on what I hear). This thing will expand your pallete of delay sound if you already have analog delay. Timeline : It's like having a mix of reverbs on all modes (in a good way). It sounds more warm, organic and more versatile than Timefactor (more modes too!). Has it own thing/vibe going on, just like all Strymon pedal You can't go wrong with both :)
Took some listing to come to the conclusion that the Timefactor is the way to go, too many times with the Timeline you can hear a symphonic static type noise, can really here it @ 7:40ish... so my vote goes to the Eventide. Did anyone else notice this annoying buzz in the Strymon?
ooh the eventide is just going that little bit more to me than the Strymon. Both effects excel, but the eventide leads me to go the H9 with all the algorithms. Nice work thanks again.
I have a timefactor. Ill always keep it on my board and use it but im rlly thinking about getting thr h9core where u can buy just the algs you want and get some more delays and most the stuff from the space
I like the Eventide because not only does it sound natural, works well in the mix, but also doesn't mess with your guitars inherent tone. I think those factors are not only important for recording, but also for the overall listening experience. For me the latter is my ultimate goal; to enjoy what I am creating. I have owned mine for almost 10 years with no regret. They are both good; trust your ears, choose accordingly and then enjoy.
The Eventide sounds better, rounder, fuller, more professional. The timeline sounds great too but its presentation is lacking compared to the Timefactor. It may have to do with the analog to digital converters which counter-intuitively improve the overall sound. I used Grado headphones for the listening test, so pretty in your face presentation.
I agree the Eventide has a rounder more analog type sound. The Strymon sounds a little thin and super clean in comparison. I actually like the Eventide better but I may get the Strymon Timeline for that more modern sounding delay. As I have tube amps and mostly a analog pedal board, the cleaner sound may be a better setup for me
Timefactor is warmer, no doubt. I also prefer the fact that you can blend two delays together....such a huge selling point for me. Timeline is awesome for sure, but the way the TF interacts with the dry signal sounds so much more organic and natural....
Great demo ! These sound really close but I would give the nod to the Strymon. It just sounds a little sweeter to me, and the echoes on it don't get in the way as much as they do with the Eventide. The only algorithm I think sounds better on the Eventide is Reverse.
I own the timefactor, its something about how this delay sounds that when you hear it you ask yourself is that real? just like when I listen to it here it makes me smile, you can hear it when he compared the dbucket to the vintage delay.
The Timeline is a fantastic pedal indeed but to my taste TOO prestige and clean. I like the warmth of the time factor a bit more, specially since I use tape delay as my main delay. I´ve had the time factor for 7 years now and it has worked incredibly for me. I´ve tried them both side by side in person and I still go for the time factor every time. I do love strymon products, on my board I also have an Ola chorus and the blue sky. I hope to trade these for a Mobius and a Big Sky.
well how good are those if you wanna play ambient or some spaced sounds i think its a little differcult too choose between those 2 pedals who s number 1 and number 2 in your opinion?? im going too buy one of those and need you opinion what too choose all inputs are great thx
Both sound fabulous! And nice playing dude. Beautiful guitar/amp tone too! (y) Btw it *is* possible to set different left and right delay times for the Dual mode in the Strymon, and you can also set the two delays in series or parallel. For me that killer "Ice" algorhythm was the deciding factor for getting the Strymon. Odd that there's not a version in the Timefactor as pitch shifted delay is such a classic Eventide effect. Wish the Strymon had the Eventide's Band Delay algo in there also...
Hey man! I love your tone and your playing! How do you configure time? Do you use dotted eight? Can you tell me the config of eventide you have used. tks.
Timeline is the best.Theresso much ambience in the repeats it sound just so lush and authentic. Not that the Time Factor is bad but the Timeline is for atmospheric music IMO.
If you know what you are doing, you will get much deeper and bigger ambient sound with the eventide. The Timeline has a noisier quality which gives you that impression of a cloudier sound when only a guitar to one delay pedal is one. You should hear what the eventide timefactor to the space sounds like but with swelling a volume pedal. Its very surreal. Actually Shnobel has that video you should hear. th-cam.com/video/s9J0ILTztqY/w-d-xo.html
Help!! I hooked up my eventide timefactor and space stereo but when they are bypassed, I only get the dry signal on the left amp (output 1). How do I get the dry signal on both amps, as I'm getting the wet signal?
can't go wrong with either pedal,I think. it's just you probably can't AFFORD TO have both. LOL! These boxes are pricey units for sure, but they both deliver the goods. keep in mind, some of the algorithmic tones that one seems to have more or less than the other could be enhanced with subtle tweaking by the player. still can't decide? Toss a coin.
I never could understand tthe hype people say about stryman it sounds like it should be on a Butch vig production because it's so polished or pristine ....every Radiohead record and all other albums of over production
Timeline is a newer digital unit that tries to sound very blurry and smeared-together. Timefactor is an older digital unit that goes for rackmount-style clarity. I like the Strymon as a soundscaping tool, but as a practical delay unit whose sound sits better with the dry guitar signal the Eventide is vastly superior IMO. There's a reason why the Timefactor still sits on guitarists' boards as a standalone unit in a time where Strymons dominate and Eventide users have mostly moved on to H9s; it kicks that much ass.
I can hear nasty noise in timeline on certain patches. Only place timeline wins is the reverse setting, noise shows up on timefactor on this patch but also could be how he had it setup some how. I'm also listening with good earbuds. I'm saving 100 bucks and going with timefactor, dont forget everybody! We're supposed to be making music! Not sitting around nick picking lil nuances in pedals where you will never hear it in the mix with rest of the band. Stop wasting time and have fun!
Not on any of these, for shimmer you need a reverb. From Strymon the Blue sky and the big sky can deliver it (and quite nicely) and from Eventide the Space can also deliver it.
Timefactor may sound brighter sometimes but Timeline sounds more warm overall. I believe Timeline is more innovative as a pedal and has more weird stuff in it, while Timefactor does digital better.
Guitar Pedal Demos Yea the Memory Man sounds crisper but you're comparing the Timeline to the Timefactor, not the Timeline to the Memory Man. Mind you the Memory Man pedals, while they sound great are large and inconvenient for pedal boards. In fact it is even larger than the Timeline. You could go Memory Boy but they aren't as good. Strymon still wins out really, it is the top of the line in delay effects.
+Macconator2010 And many others including myself think the Timeline wins hands down. They are both top of the line pedals that are very versatile: it just comes down to which algorithm you like better.
Eventide is more spacy and a realistic Great sounding delay...strymon is beautiful but my thumb goes up for the Timefactor.... Great review ShNobel
i know it is quite randomly asking but does anybody know a good website to stream new movies online ?
@Camilo Aarav Thanks, I went there and it seems like a nice service :) I really appreciate it!
@Rayden Luciano happy to help =)
Strymon is good , but the Eventide is amazing.
I use the TimeFactor for a few reasons. It don't color my origin tone. Sounds great. And you can use the two delays with totally different settings in all different modes.
Werner Prost how do you switch the mode on the second delay? I’ve had one for years and never done that
@@samoakley4360 you can't, I think he meant you could use different settings for two delays in any mode you choose, the mode is the same but different delay time and feedback
I've got both of these pedals sort of. I have the Eventide H9. Both have quality delay algorithms. Pretty close on this video, but I think I prefer the Eventide.
You can tell that the strymon keeps the dry analog, and the eventide converts the dry to digital when on.
That makes the strymon repeats sound behind (or next to) the dry signal. Whereas the eventide sounds more like the repeats and the dry are at the same place in the soundstage.
That explains very well what I was hearing, didn't think of the dry signal.
That has some benefits too though. For me, the Strymon doesn't suck any of the tone whereas the Eventide does just a bit. Not only that but you can get them sounding together in the soundstage on the Strymon with some simple tweaking of the mix knob.
Eventide for the win.
Thanks for this. Reinforces my belief that the Strymon is the best pedal for me. Eventide is a bit "effect-y", whereas the Timeline sounds more natural and subtle.

i love the sound of that strat
Its an Eric Johnson Strat

This comment here may have sold me on the Eventide. It's very obvious.
That's the timeline simulating analog delay bucket loss noise. It's part of the dBucket algorithm and completely adjustable.
Thx for this video, I go for Eventide H9.. Awesome! Keep rocking and keep demo-ing \m/
ooh the eventide is just going that little bit more to me than the Strymon. Both effects excel, but the eventide leads me to go the H9 with all the algorithms. Nice work thanks again.

nice demo how does the eventide compare with Fractal delay and reverb patches
I like the timeline a little better. Seems 'warmer'.
If you want U2 delays, buy Eventide. Buy Strymon if you want ambient reverb delays.
I'd argue for the exact opposite, actually :)
Timefactor is warmer, no doubt. I also prefer the fact that you can blend two delays together....such a huge selling point for me. Timeline is awesome for sure, but the way the TF interacts with the dry signal sounds so much more organic and natural....

Thats just how he has it set up. The eventide is a much better pedal
Clear win for Eventide imo
can u send me the patches for timefactor?
I own the timefactor, its something about how this delay sounds that when you hear it you ask yourself is that real? just like when I listen to it here it makes me smile, you can hear it when he compared the dbucket to the vintage delay.

Obviously gotta have both on the board.
Love the slight grunge to your clean tone. How did you achieve that - pedal? amp? modeller?
Its amazing sounds... Can you share your presets?
in stereo eventide sounds better, in mono and strange kind of sounds the timeline is the option them bouth great delays
Timeline for me. More defined and clearer.
A fender twin, ac30 and both please. Ive got ETF but i want timeline obvious in it.
well how good are those if you wanna play ambient or some spaced sounds i think its a little differcult too choose between those 2 pedals who s number 1 and number 2 in your opinion?? im going too buy one of those and need you opinion what too choose all inputs are great thx
Which one do you like better?
thanks for not cluttering the playing with ridiculous Van Halen solos
Do you use the top boost side of the box for all of your videos?
Great demo as always! I bought Fender because of your TH-cam channel :) Can you please tell me which pickups are you using in a Fender from this Vid?
The pickups are stock, its an Eric Johnson Strat from 2006
Both sound fabulous! And nice playing dude. Beautiful guitar/amp tone too! (y) Btw it *is* possible to set different left and right delay times for the Dual mode in the Strymon, and you can also set the two delays in series or parallel. Is there a subdivision time signature option in the Time Factor?
Yes, all the normal big box options
Man, I cannot get my Time factor to sound anything like the Timeline... Are these settings posted anywhere?
I'm looking for it too
The Strymon sounds more dynamic and clearer to me. The Eventide seems to steal a little attack from the tone.
Do you think the TimeFactor better than TC Electronic Alter Ego x4 ?
Man strymon and eventide are a whole new level
lol what question is that??u asking if a ferrari its better than a fiat)
Hey man! I love your tone and your playing! How do you configure time? Do you use dotted eight? Can you tell me the config of eventide you have used. tks.
Wondering the same
Which one do you prefer, shnobel?

You still with your band?
Roman,
Is the firmware on the timefactor the most up to date version?
Help!! I hooked up my eventide timefactor and space stereo but when they are bypassed, I only get the dry signal on the left amp (output 1). How do I get the dry signal on both amps, as I'm getting the wet signal?
I have a Strat and struggle to get my Prince of Tone to cut in a set. What settings do you use?
The Eventide!! Kind of rhymes with landslide ... ;)
can't go wrong with either pedal,I think.
it's just you probably can't AFFORD TO have both. LOL!

keep in mind, some of the algorithmic tones that one seems to have more or less than the other could be enhanced with subtle tweaking by the player.

Toss a coin.
dude, how do you get all these pedals?
I buy them, and sell the ones i dont want to keep
Absolutely.
I liked the Timestrymon Finelay moment
Timefactor works better in loops more prominent due to the line level switches
For people reading the coment be aware bc its the matter of opinion and taste also the $$ will determine some part of your ultimimate choice GL.
Ok steve mcqueen.
Strymon has a sound.
Eventide let's you pick your own unique tone.
This just makes me miss my Vox/Twin set up.
I never could understand tthe hype people say about stryman it sounds like it should be on a Butch vig production because it's so polished or pristine ....every Radiohead record and all other albums of over production

I am bias... Strymon for me.. but the Eventide is great in its own right.
All these years later, I favor the Eventide much more.
EVENTIDE
Its two Big Delay, but i prefer Eventide Timefactor
mid boost guitar amps harden the sound much better to go into full range good quality studio monitors or PA for full stereo sonics
eventide is more "real" hit you, strymon is more "imagine" around you, If I choose, I will pick eventide.
Eventide is so much nicer to my ears, I find the nova delay and the eventide track alot better then the strymond
I can hear nasty noise in timeline on certain patches. Only place timeline wins is the reverse setting, noise shows up on timefactor on this patch but also could be how he had it setup some how. Idk i think the time line is more versatile
There is NO CONTEST: Eventide KILLS the Strymon.
They both sound... Not that good. At least to me. Maybe the eventide would sound better in the mix but I don't know.
EricAvilesGOM maybe it's his tone. check out rabea massad reviewing the timeline and dave kilminster playing through the timefactor. beautiful.
You should start using KOT instead POT
KOT is much better. POT is made in China
Yes. And the POT is a little more overdriven sound (at the same settings).
Pretty sure he's got both. He's got a nice selection of gear. Check his rig rundown! Very impressive
Hello my English is not very good ..
And timefector has the shimmer effect!?
I can do some effects of the timeline in timefactor shimmer!?...thank you
+Igor Bassi NO that effect is in reverb pedals not delays
If you plan to use a shimmer in the repetition, you will find the VOX Delaylab
lelarts
Korg sdd-3000 too
Not on any of these, for shimmer you need a reverb.
H9 vs timefactor plz
Strymon
This guy looks like Elliot Smith
Eventide no dubt
id love to hear this demo with a Es 335 for a thicker fuller guitar sound Strats are strictly
cowboy guitars
Strymon wins, barely any contest. It is the absolute top of the line guitar delay pedal, more versatile and advanced than any guitar rack unit.
These guys must each have a Timeline for sale ... ;P
eventide sounds a little brighter...
