My Dad, Alva Yeary, built the theatre in the late 1940’s. It was very popular, especially when there were movies featuring John Wayne. Sad to see what has happened to the building.

I went to my first movie at this theater in 1978. It was Grease. It is so sad to see it in this condition.

The movie theater shut down in the early 80s. I was fortunate enough to be born and have a little memory of it before it shut down. It was closed up after the county shut it down for showing porn movies. The owner at the time was my uncle. They also used to show other movies besides porn as well. I watched a few kids movies there but was too young to know or understand the other kind of movies being shown there at the time

My dad, JD Howard Stanley (if anyone from Ewing knew him) was born in Ewing in 1935. My grandfather, Henry Marshall Stanley, worked on the railroad (which is now the four-lane). The gas station, if I remember correctly, was owned by Junior Brooks. I met him about 25 years ago. He was a very cordial gentleman who told me a few things about the Stanley family in Ewing. Thanks for the video. It was like going home again.

I spent many a Saturday afternoon watching matinees at a theater that looked a lot like that one. The town does look like everyone just got up and walked away one day.

I would pass through 58 in this area for years en route to Jonesville, Big Stone Gap , St. Charles. When my Dad was a young boy, he would ride the steem locomotive train from St .Charles to Lafollett, Tn passing through the small communitys on rout 58 to visit his grandparents. Enjoy the channel

I was born/raised in the DC area and; those Gulf NoNox and Good Gulf gasolines and pumps bring back some memories. Although I was flabbergasted to see reflector pavement markers; the first time I ever remember seeing them was in 1978 when I moved to Calif

I'm always open to suggestions especially on a little-known and forgotten places. thanks so much for the comment!

Ignited Coyote what about Hazard Ky? Or the train that delivers gifts to Appalachia? Or spend a day with a small town Santa? Or how about visiting the county jail on Christmas Eve? Or a small church or school Christmas play.
How about a video on the people or graves of people who were in the documentary Harlan county USA?
Visit some of the real Appalachia people who dig ginseng and other roots for money?
Or interview or ride with a small town sheriff?
How about a Halloween visit to some abandoned haunted houses or graveyards?
I love your videos and these are just a few suggestions take what you like and leave the rest!lol

There's some good ideas there. I've not done a video in hazard yet, and I love small town Christmases especially Appalachian Christmases. Thanks so much I appreciate it! 👍👍

My dad was born in Harlan Kentucky in 1923. His father was a coal mine inspector or supervisor and was killed up on the mountain. The family moved to Rose Hill and stayed there until my grandmother died at 95. My dad and his brother served in the military during the second world war and Korea and I in Vietnam. I have been looking for a place to rent somewhere in that area but cannot find anything at this time. I love it up there and hope to go back someday. Thank you for the videos. Certainly brings back memories. That theatre was very popular in its day. We all used to walk over to the VFW in Middlesboro on Saturday night for the dances and then back over after Church on Sunday. Great place to grow up.

Those gas pumps that have sat unused for 50 years are something to see. I am old enough to remember those type of pumps! The history of this part of Virginia goes back to the 1700’s, of Martin’s Station, the frontier settlement that was instrumental in formation of our country. Such a beautiful region. Ewing is on my must visit list!
Thank you for showing it to us! Greetings from Florida!

We used to visit relatives there when I was growing up. I have been to the theater and there was a little grocery and a post office on the corner. My relatives lived at the end of the road that is between theater and post office. At the end of that road is Sand Cave. It is beautiful country, thanks for the memories!

@@IgnitedCoyote It was actually a gas/grocery store (canned goods, drink machines, ice cream) back in the day. It closed in the late 60s/ early 70s. After that it was used as storage/catch-all. The inside now unfortunately is pretty rundown.
