And yet, the US abstention speech once again blames the resistance rather than the perpetrator.

Whether it is binding or non-binding it does lead the way for chapter 7 to impose sanctions and for countries to take action if Israel does not ceasefire. The Palestinian Security Council said they are going to file for the chapter 7 at the UN to uphold the resolution.

While I'm happy, the only reason this passed at all is because the US finally stopped getting in the way. The issue of this deadlock regarding ceasefire could've been resolved sooner had the UN been a more diplomatic institution as opposed to being at the mercy of its strongest members. The Veto privilege should be reevaluated if not taken out completely. At the very least, they could make it so that a veto can only be put into effect if 3 out of 5 members with veto power agree to it.

The questions is the invocation of Chapter 7, ie force or sanctions. But “demand’ in the operative paragraph is clear. It follows with “And, also, …” so I ain’t sure it’s not, not non-binding. Irrespective, this will have majors implications going forward if it were to be flagrantly ignored.
