  • Few weeks ago I tired a Yihue desolder station, and liked it. But it’s for through-hole, not surface mount.
Looked for a Yihua hot air station, and they have one for less than US$100 on Amazon.
    Bought it, here’s the tryout.
Like it quite a bit, and for the price just great, with extras in the box I didn’t expect.

The handle cools when you put it back into it’s holster. Then when you pick it up it will reheat. I dont have one of these units so not sure if its a sensor on the holster but I learned in this in another review video.

Yes, a magnetic switch either in the handle or the rest. And after a number of months using it I do really like it.

@@CKHaun thank you for making the video. It has helped me decide that I want to get this eventually. Thanks again.

If you read the instructions they would tell you it goes into standby when the handle is placed in the cradle.

"If you read the instructions..." well yeah, but where would be the fun in that? :)

I have been extremely pleased with my Yihua 898D purchased over 2 years ago. As i am sure you have realized by now, the fan DOES keep running until cooled down, when placed back in its' cradle, as it has a magnetic switch in the cradle. It's early in the video so you may realize that later.

PS....that is the reason for the "odd" angle of the cradle, to make sure it sets back correctly.

Thanks for the tip! I did NOT know that (though some Hakko's work that way also). My go-to Wellers do not do this so I wasn't expecting it.

Very nice video, thank you for sharing.
I've enjoyed my Yihua solder/desolder station and for me, a non-pro, it works quite well. Seems to be in vogue to really criticize these units, especially by techs, but I didn't have the funds for a Quick brand hot air station. Mine sometimes make a little noise when I first turn it on, but it goes away quickly once warmed up.
Nice to see an honest review. 😊Thanks, C.K.!

Equipment snobbery is a thing, and not really useful. Cost doesn't determine the value of a tool, "Does it work and suit my needs" is value proposition at any price.
And glad you like this quick vid!

I have my yihua reworks station at 660 and solder does not melt.

    • @CKHaun
      @CKHaun  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Is the solder lead-free? Lead free melts about 50 degrees F higher than leaded solder, so you may need to maximize the air temperature or bring the air nozzle very close to the work. I've also found that, as you might expect, higher air flow rates help a great deal.

@@CKHaun i set it at 800 and applied heat for like 30 seconds and it came off. I am replacing ps5 controller joysticks for my son. Thanks. 650 was not hot enough

The whole video is a cabaret... "why are there 2 short screws in the box?".... "handset powered off, I wonder why".... absolutely ridiculous. The last video on earth from which I would want to get relevant info...

“Life is a Cabarat, old chum” as Sally Bowles sang to us Again, fortunately you have many other options on TH-cam to better suit what you’re,looking for. At least you commented, which I appreciate.
