Another option for you, is keep driving the Mazda but jump up to D Class and take part in the Production Car Challenge by Sim-Lab - 25 minute races against other cars - GR86, Clio and BMW M4. A different experience but in a car you're familiar with. Go in with no expectations, chill out and enjoy, it will help with the nerves - Good Luck!

Here is my pick for the top 3 best series in all classes (exept for oval and dirt racing, since i haven't really driven any, and i am taking account for racing, fun cars and generally good series with good tracks) Sports car: Rookie: 1. Mazda MX-5 Cup (generally a good car to learn a lot of the basics of driving as it always has been) 2. BMW M2 Cup (generally a good and fun car as well to learn, but you don't learn just as much as with the mazda, since it does have ABS) D Class: 1. Ferrari GT3 Challenge (both a fun car to drive, and a great introduction into the world of GT3 cars) 2. GT4 Challenge (probably the best introduction into the world of GT cars and just generally fun to drive) Fastest car: McLaren Easiest car: BMW but unless you are over like 4000 irating, this is not going to be even a slight problem 3. Rain Master Challenge (best way to get introduced to the rain, and you have both ABS and TC to help you) Car: with GT3, you should use the car you are the most comfortable in from the start as the best car changes from track to track C Class: 1. iRacing Porsche Cup (one of the hardest but most rewarding cars to learn, and the racing is the best i have ever seen/driven) 2. LMP3/Sports Car Challenge by Falken Tyre (also one of the hardest cars to learn and probably the best introduction to multiclass) 3. IMSA Sportscar Endurance Challenge (i chose this over the GT endurance, because this is a very good way to get into endurance racing, as it is with multiclass) B Class: 1. IMSA Endurance Series (maybe a controversial pick, but as a person who absolutely loves endurance racing this has incredible racing, and a great introduction to GTP and LMP2 racing) 2. Prototype Challenge (great introduction to GTP and you won't belive how much downforce theese things have) 3. GT3 Challenge/Sprint (generally just good GT3 racing with a nice variety of cars and tracks) A Class: 1. IMSA iRacing Series (well, it is the only one here, but that dosen't mean that the racing is bad, and you can finally say you have reached the top of sports car series) Formula Car Rookie: 1. Formula 1600 (incredibly fun and is not too fast, but definetly not slow either) 2. Formula vee (also fun but just a bit slower than the Formula 1600) D Class: 1. F4 (i will say this is kinda the obvious pick but still a nice car to drive and it does drive around some great tracks) 2. Motorsport UK FF 1600 (well the same as the Formula 1600, but with some other and more fun tracks imo) I cant say anything about the skip barber because i have unfortunatley never driven it :( C Class: 1. Formula C/F3 (generally a great car with nice racing and great tracks) 2. Super Formula Lights (great car, great racing, not much else to say) B Class: 1. Super Formula (a bit slower than an F1 car, but still incredibly fun with almost all the downforce in the world) 2. INDYCAR (fun but from my experience, it is just more fun to drive the super formula) A Class: 1. F1 (well you have reached the top of formula racing, but just be aware that not many people drive this as it can easily feel like you are driving on an island as it is just too low laptimes) This took a lot of time to make, but I hope you can use it and enjoy :D
I race in leagues where I know I'm not going to win a race at the moment so I'm not sure what you can do about getting nervous and making mistakes when you think you might win. I have found the more I race the more consistent I become and I don't make silly mistakes as often. Just knowing the track and knowing your car will make a difference. I will have to start racing in a graded league where I have a chance of getting a win, until then I am slowly but surely improving. Your first win is just around the corner. Loving the community you are building on discord excited to be part of it.
Right on! The switch back is always so satisfying for an overtake. Almost always an option for opponents who go deep and wide (rookies do this) and try to dive bomb. If you got confidence and consistency pcc would spice things up but you got more multitasking such as managing traffic.
Dave's stutter fix really helped me out too. As for what to do about keeping your composure when you get to the front I personally just try to forget that I'm at the front at all. Just try to see it as a time trial and concentrate on nailing my braking points and turn ins etc. I've also found that as each week starts with a new track that time trials are a great way to learn the track and get some consistency all while gaining a bit of extra safety rating. Once I can do the full half hour with no incidents at a reasonable pace I know I'm ready for a race session. Even though I'm a noob myself doing this has gotten me a wins in Ovals, Sports cars and Formula cars. I'm now tantalisingly close to getting automatic promotion to class C in sports cars too. Basically find a routine that works for you and stick to it. It doesn't matter if you're first or last, just be consistent and the results will come.
Don' forget to breath. When the pressure is high people tend to hold their breath. Another one is forget about mirrors for a while only check them when on a long straight. Don't look at them in corners for the most part and just focus on your line. This will take the pressure off when someone is behind you.
Amazing work. I'm really impressed with the progress and you racing has come on leaps and bounds. The best thing for the nerves is to try and forget what position you are racing for and try and race your own race, pretend you are just hot lapping in practise. The win will come with time and I can guarantee it will still be nerve racking after several wins. The improvements are great just keep doing what you are doing. Best of luck in the next weeks races.
Ah cheers Martin, I am putting in some serious hours behind the scenes, I felt confident this week so was a bit disappointing not to get it but I'll keep trying! Thank you mate!
So heart breaking when you make a small mistake that you know you shouldn't be making. My only tip for calming nerves is just drive, you know what you are capable of, it doesn't matter what position you find yourself in, just drive and the results will come.
I started my IRacing journey in December last year and have had the same ups and downs. The nerves are real, but just focus forward. I avoided the Mazda chaos and went straight into the M2 cup. It is a tricky car to handle but I feel i learnt a lot from it.
That's a great shout mate, for some reason I have a real love for the Mazda, it's a tricky car but when you get it right it's a great feeling. But I need to expand!
Looks like you had some rough spots this week mate, and I love that you posted them all rather than editing them out like some people would do. We can all relate to the rough times as we’ve all been there in our own journey 😊 keep at it Kez and keep your head dude, your time is coming! Awesome video again brother 👊 On a side note for your next car, Personally Ferrari challenge is the scrappiest series for newcomers.. I would check out some of the series your Eligable for and just see what you like the look of 👍 look forward to the next one mate
Thank you mate, yeah I really think the videos should be warts and all, rather than a polished edited version of all my successes! Cheers mate, I'll do that for sure!
It's not about winning, it's about continuous improvement and having fun. The iracing elo system ensures you're more likely to always be mid pack than top. So can't chase the win, you've just gotta race and enjoy it, and the win will come.
Great video once again :) A thing ive found very helpful in the start, improving my driving was when i bought my first GT3 (Porsche 911) in my case, i started looking into my braking techniques and got a sense of turning the car with my pedals more than my wheel :) Also looking into how to turn/feel your steering wheel in a corner, one thing is how u can hear the sounds of your tires as u are on the limit, but u can allso feel the same thing in your steering as u are on the limit or close. Feeling the understeer / oversteer when it happens :) Alot of getting better in Racing (again talking for myself here) was /is for me to understand the different "techniques" and things referred to by others. one thing is getting told to do this and that, another thing is to really understand what it means doing it yourself. I am in no way a good racer yet, but i am as u learning , trying to get better :)
I am on the similar road like you, i´ve started two months ago with SIM racing, journey is awesome experience with up and downs, same as Circuit de Lédenon :) Had quite a few spins, but i love feeling the change of centre of gravity there and learning car behavour. Good luck mate. Win is coming.
What I've recently discovered with nerves is listening to a podcast. Doesn't matter who or what content. Just listening to someone talking seems to really help. Weird I know lol
Im honestly impressed man!!, you've come a long way in such a short time! I use the racing line in practice, just to kinda get the feel of the track, then I watch a TH-cam video learning the track a little better. You should try TCR, they're an absolute blast
Thank you mate, it doesn't feel like I've gotten any better, but it's great to get an outsider point of view! I'll try that car buddy, really appreciate your support!
What a week mate outstanding effort there great to see things coming together for you that win is so close dude and thank for the mention and the win 👀 I’d say I never win anything 🎉
don't put too much pressure on the first win Kez, it will come in time. when you find yourself in first second or third its just a mental game with your self. keep taking deep breaths to keep your heart rate and adrenaline down. Also looking for a new car, try the Mercedes GT4 on the GT4 series. it handles really well, and the series is very competitive with fair racers.
Watched your whole series. You’re progressing well. I know it’s hard because you’re on an office chair, but because your posture is so far forward your arm movements aren’t going to be as smooth as with a bucket seat and rig… so would explain why sometimes you get loose, your movements are more aggressive than you intend
Ah mate, thank you for doing that! You're absolutely spot on, I have just yesterday bought a Playseat X for now, it's taking some getting used to, but my neck and back feels way better!
Looks like you’re getting more confident and putting the car in the right places, to keep my nerves down i try not to look at my current position and just race like I’m chasing someone down safely, try not to drive in my mirrors and trust the people im racing, you cant always but you need to trust most for great racing
Now this might be a lot to do, but let me give you my training regiment as a beginner with Iracing as well. It starts Sunday. What ever track is happening that week I skip it and start practicing the new track. I will practice blind until i can do 10 laps in a row at 75% power without incident points. That could take a day or 2 for me. Once I can do that I will look up a track guide for the car, preferably sambo racing. I will then try and get 2 seconds from his time. Once I can do that I will start racing. I feel more confident knowing the track and I can focus on racecraft. You will also learn from other drivers during the race, gaining that second or two. I am only 1700 Irating so I am just barely above average. Hope this helps and keep on racing. You are getting so much better.
One more thing. If you can get racelabs for the telemetry overlay, it's free. That way you can see your break pressure in a much cleaner and way. Also when you practice laps turn off the delta bar. Sometimes you have to go slower to go faster and that bar will give you wrong information.
Great job this week. When the nerves start flowing I hit the try and use the black boxes as a slight distraction. Jump to F1 then back to the relatives or just check fuel. Something to take my mine and reset it. For the next series I would recommend the Gt4 or the sport car challenge. The gt4 will get you better acquainted with the gt car feel without the power.
GR86 is very good car! GR86 has all the necessary learning qualities to be able to use it in the future in the gt4 and future gt3, this in a slow, small gt4 way we can say.
Great to see you still battling away, try not to chase the win - it took months for me to get one and in a year I had about 3...! The way the splits work makes it difficult to win unless you are a specialist in one car. I sim race to have fun so try everything, enjoy it, aim to improve yourself :) and try all the caras, especially all the free ones, why not!?
It may already be in the works for you man but I really do think you would benefit from a rig. Diy wooden one or a fancy one anything in between. Having a better racing seating position will drastically make you feel better/more confident on the pedals or at least in most people it will. Good racing man glad to see your having fun no matter the outcome.
Cheers Kez! Not gonna lie, the "trick" I use is kinda weird I think! I put music on a very low volume, so it doesn't disturb me hearing the tyres, and then when I see I'm on the verge of losing focus or getting too anxious I start to hum along! For reference, I use the VLC media player with the volume around 30 to 40%
Man I just started iracing last week and jumped into the Mazda and immediately realized that track was not the best to start on so I switched to the Vee. I made it onto the podium a few times and out of rookies so I’m going to get back in the Mazda and hopefully do the same. I will jump on Discord this week and any luck we can get some races in!
Get yourself in the Ferrari challenge at rudskogen this week! Lovely car to drive and nice and competitive. As for nerves, just remember to ask yourself what’s the worst that can happen, tends to help me haha, also that first win will help with the nerves but don’t put too much pressure on it coming, it will! Just focus on enjoying it, which you clearly do anyway! Easier said than done though, eh? 😂 Top stuff 👌
I'm pretty mixed as there's a ton of carnage with the Ferrari challenge, still think it should've been a class C. Great fun in splits with minimal mayhem still.
Community race or demolition derby?..on nerves: I like the idea that something about iracing makes one nervous, I still do after years. If it didn't feel like it mattered, I'm not sure I'd still be doing it..
@@Jennings1810 Lol, to be fair this time around there were a few ping issues with cars and I think the very nature of the random picks makes its a bit mad. No damage though and loads of fun! The driving is actually really respectful. My editing shows off all the crashes 😂 You're spot on about the nerves. Get them before every race!
Hi, you could try touring cars, lots of fun, nice combination cars and tracks and they are front wheel so they don't speen a lot and great for having battles.
Ive been at iRacing since 2015 and while I dont do alot of road I do more dirt oval and asphalt oval I still rarely pick up a win. 30 in 883 Asphalt and 53 in 719 dirt. My asphalt road believe it or not has a decent percentage tho 11 in 173 before the Sport/Formula split and I have 1 win in 11 starts in the Sport category. So while technically Im not the fastest or the best I still luck into winning which is what you sometimes need is luck and some skill to win. You'll grab a win when your least expecting it and you cherish each win no matter what the SoF is.
@SimRacingKez It'll be 10 this August. Hard to think about it. Ive seen alot of changes on iRacing not as much as the folks from when it was originally released but its changed drastically since I was new.
Hiya mate! good racing there! Maybe have a look at the BMW M2 CS Racing. I believe it´s rookie class as well and I really enjoy driving it myself. It´s at Okayama this week, which I think is quite fun of a track as well.
Another exciting video there, Kez. I'm sure you would have pulled out a couple wins if it wasn't for being taken out a couple times, that's just bad luck! The GR86 is great, and delivers some very close racing, but have you tried the new BMW? It's frustrating at first, but it forces you to develop your trail braking technique, and the racing seems to be a bit cleaner in my experience.
Great video. I know others have mentioned this in previous videos but your driving position looks really uncomfortable. If it works for you great but I would last about 15 minutes. Getting a good position (if you have space) may help with consistency. You are pulling off some good moves and show some good, quick decision making when under pressure. That will help with starting to pick up regular podiums very soon. Look forward to racing with you once I get my rig sorted.
Hi mate, I have finally taken action on this, I did look at a massive upgrade but the price kept rising and rising, so I went for a playseat for now, arrived today, so hopefully this will be a bit more natural!
@ I am sure this will help with building up some consistency as it will feel more natural. Ploughing loads of cash into an expensive rig won’t necessarily make you faster anyway.
Oh god I hate it when my game freezes like that. I wish iRacing would detect it immediatly and just make my car disappear so I don't ruin anyone's race. I wll check Dave Cam's videos on the solution and fingers crossed it'll work
Consistency beats overall 1 lap speed. Don't try for lap time as you will overdrive the car and make more mistakes. Can't help with the nerves tho, happens to us all
The new BMW or TCRs, or GT4s would be my next go to. Have a look at DeckChairRacing, he does Mazda and TCRs mainly now and he loves it :) IMHO, those crashes at the end of community races is a big no no. Imagine if someone has a DD and resting his hands on it? It also looks shit on recap video (imo)
From the first race you posted to today is a HUGE improvement, you have a special ability noone else really likes to show and thats being able to show your growth from the start. Seeing people be fast is always fun but you never see where they started and its awesome to see someone starting from the bottom, since we were all there at one point, whether just a month ago or back in the early 2000s with gran turismo, keep it up! one thin you can do with the logitech pedals is switch the throttle spring and clutch spring, it make the throttle pedal stiffer and more easy to modulate. Also on ur starts u can ride the clutch and get off the line faster. To ease your nerves, it take practice but here's a video by Suellio Almeida about calming nerve during racing. th-cam.com/video/QOrL5hmS4rc/w-d-xo.html

Cheers mate, I'll do that for sure!
It's not about winning, it's about continuous improvement and having fun. The iracing elo system ensures you're more likely to always be mid pack than top. So can't chase the win, you've just gotta race and enjoy it, and the win will come.
@@thecray That's a really good point actually, rarely are you favourite for a race.
I would say getting both ir and sr in a race is a win
It’s good to see how much you’re improving ! Keep it up man

Major technical issues - I am the master. My system is STILL down after the storms!! And I will say @Davecam is a legend.
Nooo! Hope it comes back soon brother and yes, Dave is awesome!
Great video once again :)
A thing ive found very helpful in the start, improving my driving was when i bought my first GT3 (Porsche 911) in my case, i started looking into my braking techniques and got a sense of turning the car with my pedals more than my wheel :)
Also looking into how to turn/feel your steering wheel in a corner, one thing is how u can hear the sounds of your tires as u are on the limit, but u can allso feel the same thing in your steering as u are on the limit or close. Feeling the understeer / oversteer when it happens :)
Alot of getting better in Racing (again talking for myself here) was /is for me to understand the different "techniques" and things referred to by others. one thing is getting told to do this and that, another thing is to really understand what it means doing it yourself.
I am in no way a good racer yet, but i am as u learning , trying to get better :)
Love this mate, thank you! Great tips!
@@ondrejsim This is awesome to hear mate, be great to race you soon!
Great passes there Kez, your getting there with fighting back :D The win will come soon!

Cheers brother, I'll dedicate it to the Viking!
What I've recently discovered with nerves is listening to a podcast. Doesn't matter who or what content. Just listening to someone talking seems to really help. Weird I know lol
That's actually genius, lol!

Congratulations mate! Drop me a message and I'll get that sorted for you and thanks brother!
Some great overtakes in there mate. Great video!!!!!!!
Learning from the best in the community races mate!
don't put too much pressure on the first win Kez, it will come in time. when you find yourself in first second or third its just a mental game with your self. keep taking deep breaths to keep your heart rate and adrenaline down.
Also looking for a new car, try the Mercedes GT4 on the GT4 series. it handles really well, and the series is very competitive with fair racers.
Great advice boss and I'll definitely check out the GT4 series!
Good luck mate, all the best. I like your videos. 😊
Thank you very much mate for the follow!
@@SimRacingKez I'm 46, just started my SIM career last year in GT7, in 2025 January bought PC and subscription in i-racing :))

She found my TH-cam channel. Everybody act natural.
Keep at it and you will get your win in no time!
Thank you boss! I'll keep trying!
That's a great little tip, I always seem to go faster when chasing someone!
Wow, this is a brilliant tip mate, I've been doing similar but not quite as dedicated as that, love this approach! Thanks mate!
Great tip with the distraction and that's actually a great idea with the GT4, definitely worried about the power shift from the MX5!
GR86 is very good car! GR86 has all the necessary learning qualities to be able to use it in the future in the gt4 and future gt3, this in a slow, small gt4 way we can say.
Perfect, thank you man!
Great advice mate, and good to know I'm not the only one!
Your getting there buddy the win is coming soon 100% :)

Great video mate! You are getting better, my licence is still under 2.50 LOL
Ah mate, you've only been on a couple of weeks!
@@B-ryeClips It's a great point mate, I actually bought the Playseat X as a temporary solution this week, my back and neck feel better already!
@SimRacingKez good to hear man. Keep going at it. You'll have a win in no time.
Wow I’m buzzing with the win this thanks a lot greatly received
Pleasure mate! Enjoy!
Cheers Kez! Not gonna lie, the "trick" I use is kinda weird I think!
I put music on a very low volume, so it doesn't disturb me hearing the tyres, and then when I see I'm on the verge of losing focus or getting too anxious I start to hum along!
For reference, I use the VLC media player with the volume around 30 to 40%
That actually sound like an awesome distraction tactic, I'll try that, thank you!
@@networkguy3152 Nice work mate! Definitely want to try the Vee!

1st win coming soon for sure!
Cheers brother, let's hope so, in my life time would be good!
Top stuff 👌
I'm pretty mixed as there's a ton of carnage with the Ferrari challenge, still think it should've been a class C. Great fun in splits with minimal mayhem still.
Thank you Tom, great advice mate, I think those Ferraris might be a bit fast for me right now, lol!

@@JronyNascar Thank you brother!
Absolutely love this comment, appreciate that mate, congrats on your 10 years!
@SimRacingKez It'll be 10 this August. Hard to think about it. Ive seen alot of changes on iRacing not as much as the folks from when it was originally released but its changed drastically since I was new.
@RedSliceGaming34 That's interesting mate, what's changed most you think?
I'm ready Kez, my rig is set up and I joined Discord 😅
@@ChelouWolf Yesss mate!
Hiya mate! good racing there! Maybe have a look at the BMW M2 CS Racing. I believe it´s rookie class as well and I really enjoy driving it myself. It´s at Okayama this week, which I think is quite fun of a track as well.
Awesome, cheers Aaron! I'll have a go!
Cheers mate! Yeah I quite liked the GR86 but not tried the BMW yet, that's definitely going on the list!
I wll check Dave Cam's videos on the solution and fingers crossed it'll work
Hi mate, yeah it's rubbish, Dave Cam's fix did it for me though, no freeze up's since, really good fix!
Doing well so far Keri!! Would offer recommendations but I’m assuming Gran Turismo 5 and iRacing are very different 😅
Haha, never played it mate!

I practiced in this track last week. Didn't feel confident enough to race. Looking forward to race this week in Okayama!
Haha! Yeah that was a tricky track, weirdly I enjoyed it! Okyama looks a bit more straightforward, plenty of spin opportunites though!
@@SimRacingKez yup! I'm a lot more familiar with that track since the track was available in other games that I've played in the past. Should be fun!
Consistency beats overall 1 lap speed. Don't try for lap time as you will overdrive the car and make more mistakes. Can't help with the nerves tho, happens to us all
@@jakenelson1649 This is for sure, consistency has been my nemesis!
Any chance of including some more overlays, so we can see relative and position?
Good shout mate, I noticed that iOverlay doesn't actually record in OBS but I'll find a way to do it!
The new BMW or TCRs, or GT4s would be my next go to. Have a look at DeckChairRacing, he does Mazda and TCRs mainly now and he loves it :)
IMHO, those crashes at the end of community races is a big no no. Imagine if someone has a DD and resting his hands on it? It also looks shit on recap video (imo)
Cheers mate, I'll look into those!
Valid point about the end of races, obviously it's just a bit of fun but I didn't think about DD's. Noted.
In a lap you will spend more time on the gas than brakes. Focus more on getting a good exit than braking.
Top tip mate, you're right, I struggle with getting good exits
i'll give you my 2 cents: don't ever brake 100%, try to reach 80% max. mx5 has abs and once activated, you take longer to brake
Wow, that's the first time I've heard that, makes so much sense too, top tip, thank you!
