Just saw the movie the other night for the first time and def agree with your sentiments. Started off soooo fucking strong and got insufferable soooo fucking quickly. Good review though, your quality is higher than the view count would suggest. Hope the channel continues to grow!!

I have to say that Beyond Thunderdome is the best Mad Max movie for it's phenomenal soundtrack, great cinematography, characters, set design, and story. Master Blaster, Auntie Em, Iron Bar, and Dr. Dealgood are all so iconic! Pig Killer and other characters flesh out a full and distinct story, where the background characters in the Road Warrior are washed out.

Hard disagree. This movie is just confused with it's own identity and style which makes it uniqe but doesn't make it good. Miller seemed to forget what made the first two work so well or he just didn't care anymore because the of the tragedy in his life. I still like Thunderdome enough but the entire thing just doesn't make sense. Mel Gibson is the one saving grace. Mad Max and Mad Max 2 Road Warrior are far, far superior films in every way.

@@Peer165same. Bits of Thunderdome are great but it never comes together, the two halves don’t mesh.
Lot to enjoy but it’s a much lesser film overall.

LOL movie is objectively bad compared to the others. Fury Road and MM2 are masterpieces

@@Dad_of_WarWhy the need to be a patronizing dousche about it though? There is nothting abjective about having a different opinion. I enjoy Fury Road and Road Warrior (and even the original) far more than Thunderdome too but I don't humiliate others for liking it the best.

This was my first Mad Max movie; I saw the edited for television version as a child in the 80s. I remember thinking it seemed like Return Of The Jedi, and looking back now, with Bartertown/Jabba's Palace and Kids/Ewoks, maybe that was Miller's intent.
It worked, in a way. Beyond Thunderdome is definitely the most youth-accessible of the original trilogy. It made a Mad Max fan out of me, and I went on to watch the other movies as I grew up.

George Miller was originally working on an adaptation for Lord of the Flies. Towards the end of that story a man arrives, and the studio asked George if that man could be Max. At that point it morphed into this Mad Max/Lord of the Flies hybrid. Also, George Miller only directed the actions scenes. His close friend and producer (I believe) on the previous 2 Mad Max films had died, so George didn't feel up to directing it. However, the actual director didn't have much experience in filming action scenes, so George stepped up and shot those. That's also why there are relatively fewer action scenes than in the previous 2.

I love this terrible movie. It’s nostalgic for me i saw it the first time on vhs when i was 8 or so. The part where he meets auntie and the thunder dome part are the most memorable. I love the collector. The part with the kids seems like a whole other movie under an entirely different director. It’s some magic Disney pg bs. Usually where i drift to sleep.

The first act was solid. The second act was a little random but I was still intrigued. The third act made me realize this movie made no damn sense.

If the kids became badass feral killers when they got to Barter town, like a tribe of boomerang kids, and then the ending car chase gets ruthless, it would've been one of the best Max movies.

I like it a lot remember seeing this in the theathers and yes it is much softer and they also could remove some of the mellow with the kids but is a movie with great action and the cars chase at the end maybe be not as strong as the others but was also very cool and done practical as opose of all the CGI today.Chainsaw fight scene was something truly original on that time and Tina Turner also amazing.

This was good stuff. I thought the same. I saw this movie today and I watched 1 and 2 yesterday.
Movie 1. I would give a 7+. Okey movie but not that great. Maybe a bit funny but so small budget so ok.
Movie 2. I would give a 9. It's a good movie. Really captures the Mad Max theme and works really well.
Movie 3. Iwould give -7. First 45 minutes is good and then... well.. Peter Pan... Pretty much the worst choice where it would go.
It's weard that they did not know what worked in Mad Max 2. Brutal world, Cars, Fuel and fights. How can you make sequel so bad... this is like the new Star Wars movies 7, 8 & 9... how can you make something so bad :D

I'd say the best way to watch Mad Max is by watching Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior followed by Fury Road. Beyond Thunderdome is definitely the weakest link.

  • @jeremywalsh5666

Beyond Thunderdome is sooo quotable. The characters are great, good story, actually I like it better than Mad Max the original, which is slow if we are to be honest. Nothing comes close to Road Warrior, which, for my money is the best Action Movie ever made. Tina Turner got burned for doing BThunderdome. That's unfair, her acting was good. I thought the heavy for the villain was weak, but the script for Road Warrior has so many levels. To follow that up was a feat in itself. The whole kids thing has been explained in other comments. I like that they end up in a city and that the pilot returns. I would have like in Fury Road if pilot was in it again and they had this ongoing relationship movie after movie, but, whatever...
