"I am a guest of the Indian government, so actually the longest guest of the Indian government. Sometimes that guest creates little problems here and there but overall I consider myself as a messenger of ancient Indian thought. Wherever I go, I talk non-violence, that's India's message. Wherever I go religious harmony I talk, that also is India's message. So really I think India is the real sort of living example of all world religious traditions living together with mutual respect."

    STORYLINE:
The Dalai Lama collected a prestigious award for his exceptional contribution to spiritual progress on Monday.
After he was presented the award before a packed St Paul's Cathedral in London, the spiritual leader of Tibet said that he considers himself a messenger of traditional Indian values of respect and harmony.
He also said that he intends to donate the 1.8 (m) million US dollar prize to the charity Save the Children India and the Minds and Life Institute.
He admitted that as a guest of the Indian government he sometimes causes "little problems here and there," but said that wherever he goes he tries to pass on the Indian messages of non-violence and religious harmony.
The Dalai Lama summarised that "India is the real sort of living example of all world religious traditions living together with mutual respect."
The Templeton award, which was established 40-years-ago, claims to be the world's largest yearly monetary award given to an individual.
