    On paper, it makes sense that mid-mount battery drone frames should be better than top- or bottom-mounted. Better balance being the main factor. So I thought I'd give it a try with the TBS Source One frame. Unfortunately, my electronics (like the JHEMCU F411 AIO board) don't seem to be up to the task, so we may revisit this in the future!

    I have top mounted quads and bottom mounted quads I I personally thing bottom mounted quads are way more maneuverable

    I'm mostly a top mounted quad builder. The only bottom mounted batt model is a 3 inch micro. And it is my best flying model. Coincidence?

    I think part of the problem is the Source One has the arms too close to the body. If you look at frames like the Remix or I have a Hyperlow Vert the arms are thrust more forwards and backwards getting away from the center of the quad. On a normal build the airflow from the props can flow through the open spaces around the stack however if you put a solid battery there it messes with the airflow and the gyro really struggles. People used to put printed sides on ZMR's back in the day and then wondered why they flew like 💩! I could be wrong but just try mounting the battery on the bottom and see how it flys then.

    Upside-down frame! What a great idea - I'm building my Source One as I type and configuring it upside-down. Keeping the heavy items in the same plane makes sense. Like my Armattan Rooster has things better aligned vertically.
    You GoPro footage looks mushy because of that tall floppy mount allowing the camera to wobble around up there. Is the material TPU or PLA?
    I would suggest switching to a Foxeer Box or Runcam 5 Orange to keep the camera low as well. As you say in the footage: the camera is also a heavy item! OR, go HD digital!

    To me all depends on the frame but I rather put the battery order the drone if I can.

    Love the enthusiasm! Keep trying new things, it's the best :)
    Now that you have checked it out, imma just throw some info your way: this is not a popular battery mounting orientation due to the danger to the battery itself. Your mind is so active now, swimming with possibility, and I don't want to diminish that. So i'll just say this: sometimes batteries get knocked around. Sometimes in crashes they slide, or even come all the way out of their battery strap(s). I wish I could say having a 2nd battery strap is the answer, but it's not 100%. If sliding a few centimeters (or even less) will run your battery into the props, one day you are gonna chop your battery open, likely with it still charged. That's a dead battery, that's no power to your recently crashed quad to help you find it, and that might be a battery fire, in a place you never expected to land.
    People still do it. Those people HAVE encountered all the things I just mentioned, and decided they can afford to burn a battery like that from time to time (unless they just started.. if it's been a year or more, they know).

    Hey man, I am curious if the dji mavic mini is even still worth it. I've been watching a lot of videos and I seen geprc cine 25 has been the best sub250 drone. I'm interested in getting a sub250 drone to shoot cinematic footage on a pro 9. But I am not sure what is the best option. I've seen the baby hawk as well.

    • @RCwithAdam1
      @RCwithAdam1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Well, the Mavic Mini is really a totally different class of drones. There is some overlap in terms of the types of shots you'll be able to get, but basically the mavic mini will fly itself while FPV drones (including small "cinematic" ones) require "hands-on" all the time and take much more skill to fly well. So the question is, what kind of shots do you want to get, and are you willing to invest in becoming a skilled FPV pilot?

    • @jer9758
      @jer9758 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RCwithAdam1 Yes sir! Yeah I know. The mavic is more floating in space shots but after watching constant videos till the AM morning. I have concluded the versatility of a fpv far out weights all the easy user interface things on the mini. Plus as much as I wanna spend on the new dji fpv or a mavic air. I dont plan to get a license anytime soon. So to answer your question. Yes I am 100% for the fpv world because I love the versatility. To me FPV vs reg drone = Manual car vs automatic car. So for sure manual is 100% more fun

    I pulled a pad on one of those fcs as well, swapped it for the pro version and it seems much higher quality for $10 more. Never had issues with either one on 3 inch. Still an interesting vid!
