I would imagine this is due to the use of FPV drones in military applications and to protect more sensitive areas. I highly doubt the FAA has the capability to come after you if you fly in rural regions.
You’re absolutely right about the potential risk for FPV hobbyists. While certain activities are technically illegal, enforcement is currently minimal, especially in rural areas. With the situation in Ukraine and Russia, where FPV drones are being used for military purposes, it’s understandable that this could cast a negative shadow over drones in general, even for hobbyists. That's another worthwhile discussion because as no one wants a war FPV drones are saving or destroying life depending on which side you are on. Thanks for sharing your insight! Any thoughts on how you see the FPV hobby evolving in light of these increasing military applications?

We might see more weight and skill restrictions as drones get used more in sensitive areas. Hopefully, they won’t limit hobbyists too much.
