Every mans got a Bessie Smith. Left mine a couple years ago, just how it had to be. Shes on one path and im another, hard but sometimes just because its hard doesn't make it any less necessary. Writing this im just about to turn 30, feels strange to say, young but not that young. Old but with a lot of road ahead. Got a dream though that one day, maybe when im 60, finished my rambling, nothing left to prove and found peace ill get to see my Bessie again. Wondering what she'll do.
...you'll get over ot buddy...i just turned 41 a few days ago and had to think back when i was 20...long over it but still wondering what hes doing now...oh yeah im a girl by the way...but love good music, guitars, drums and playstation games😂😂😂😂
Thank you Bob . I never tire hearing your radio show and music. What a gem you have here. Bessie Smith, pigsfoot and a bottle of beer. What a great song that was.
Some guy who was a friend of my ex husband, my first husband, said he knew Bessie Smith and she lived in the desert. He was a surfer and had awards for surfing, but he also told me that Clint Eastward was his father and wouldn't claim him. I think that guy was mistaken. My mom liked her music too. I liked Staple Singers song Come Go With Me. If you ever had someone buy a guitar from Corona Factory Fender, 2 of my ex brother in laws worked there for years, John C and Fred C. Fred used to work as a bouncer at concerts as a side gig. TMI American girl with big mouth. Shut up me. So long. Good to know you're going UP! ❣️
That sounds like a very greedy man. You either get to say you knew Bessie Smith or that Clint Eastwood was your daddy. Smith died in the 1930s, and I doubt old Clint was able to reproduce that early, much less have a son who was old enough to "know" anybody. Sorry my friend, but that man who would tell such stories sounds like a lying man, and not like somebody who did any research whatsoever. I shan't tell you what to do, but I would not trust a man such as this.
This (she) is what this is all about: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bessie_Smith Absolutely wonderful. Let's hope Bessie keeps inspiring such positive reflection among the white folk.
It was one of the songs the Band recorded a bit later. But it fits on the album like a fine old shoe. This is the greatest album ever recorded, and it's taken me 50 years to make that call.
Almost not necessary to say it…but Garth’s organ solo is a complete masterpiece.
As are they all
Garth is incredible isaw him in concert, an amazing versatile musician!
The whole song is a masterpiece

This one hit me right in the chest as it’s spot on so similar to me and my Bessie. Hope you find your peace

I can finally listen to this masterpiece on youtube.
A more fitting tribute to a great artist (by another group of great artists) it’s tough to name one better. Love those Canucks
Robbie & Rick ❤

no words... they´re the best
My favorite from The Basement Tapes!
This song is also on the remastered release of The Band's 1971 album Cahoots.
For Robbie RIP

Inolvidable el impacto de las primeras escuchas de esto
The only appearance of a Danko/Robertson vocal combination!
素晴らしいです
Una obra maestra
I'm wonderin' to myself, how did it happen that our puppy's name is Bessie Smith? And that we live close to that big pink house? Strange.

Robbie singing alright… helluva song
i think it's rick and robbie harmonizing, maybe alternately.
He sang on to kingdom come, aint no more cane, and a few others. But yeah, not much of a singer compared to rick, richard, or levon

No, he isnt

This song was never on the real Basemrnt Tapes
it's listed on spotify as being on there, isit included on the original vinyl release?
@@RhysPitman94 Yes, it is, one of the 24 songs on the album.
This song reminds me of my grandmother, Hattie Smith, who was a cook at Ga.Tech.for many years...
You know why? 'Cause there is no such thing as the "Basemrnt Tapes"
