- A couple of weeks ago I streamed the entirety of Pepsi Man, a Japanese PS1 game starring a Japanese Pepsi mascot. A number of people requested the stream be posted here, so here it is. Apologies for the mic being a bit too loud.

Let me get this straight?
Pepsi-Man was a mascot in Japan for PEPSI. That had a game that was made for the PlayStation in Japan. Has Japanese subtitles over English dialogue despite only being marketed and sold in Japan. Has no Japanese audio whatsoever, again despite being Japanese in addition to the menus being in English and stars some casual, plump guy sporting a baseball cap that is American?
This game was simply made for the internet!
You underestimate how much Japan LOVES English. Both British English and American English. It's why it keeps turning up, often in mangled 'Engrish'.

I think that's a regional thing. I'm from Eastern Kentucky, and the most common pop is definitely Pepsi. Dr. Pepper comes (somewhat) close, but Pepsi is definitely the winner. Growing up, I rarely saw Coca-cola, even in stores.
However, now that I'm attending University on the other side of the state, Coca-cola is everywhere, completely overshadowing Pepsi (and Dr. Pepper, for that matter).

Soda doesn't dehydrate ya, but water does a better job at it.
PurpleWind64 Yeah I heard that if water isn't readily available, any liquid will at least do something to hydrate you (as long as it's not poisonous or something because that outright kills you).

@@pumpkinnecromancer9141 not necessarily, seawater is so salty that you become more dehydrated dealing with the salt when you drink it
It's a diarhetic, you'll need to pee pretty quickly after drinking it ultimately dehydrating you. It might get you some very immediate hydration but not much due to sugars and salts and the little hydration will leave anyway since you'll pee it out quickly enough.
You won't dehydrate yourself dangerously though, you can literally drink 2 full 12 packs and you won't be dehydrated beyond a certain point (you will probably be in a terrible sugar coma, have a massive headache, and just feel terrible but you'll have some level of hydration).

Holy shit, this was hilarious xD It's not just the game itself, either; it's that a game developed purely for advertising purposes is actually not half bad. If I knew nothing about either Pepsiman or Superman 64, and you gave me the option to play one out of the two just based on what they were called, I'd pick Superman, thinking the ad-game would suck simply cos it's an ad-game. And I would have been dead wrong.

I love coming back to watch this every couple years because Jon's comentary and reactions are funny, and it's cool to see how Jon evolves and adapts and gets better at the game... relatively. I'ts just fun to see.
I'd love to see him revisit this game and try to get the max amount of pepsi cans per level and beat "Par Time" for each level. In the same run.

will leese Isn't it obvious? It's his secret identity! The Clark Kent to Superman or Peter Parker to Spiderman. Adding one extra "n" to his name is enough to make it seem like a last name, perfect for hiding in the masses of Pepsi City!
Pepsi Man truly is the world's greatest superhero. He runs through people's houses, breaks Jon's fingernails, and battles even Pepsi itself to save the world by bringing Pepsi to thirsty people stranded in the desert. He may not be the hero we need, especially by further dehydrating said stranded people, but he truly is the hero we deserve.
It's a shame this only came out in Japan. This game would be a lot of fun to play. Way more fun than Temple Run, for sure. I hate Temple Run. Sonic Dash is the way to go.
I actually came to the stream just after this game ended, just in time for Bomberman Act Zero. I should've come in earlier, seeing this live would've been hilarious.

Fun Fact! Pepsiman was unlockable as a secret character in the Japanese Saturn version of Fighting Vipers.
Also, I heard a rumor of a second mascot called "Diet Pepsiwoman", but I dunno if it's true, or if it was just a joke.
Also, there is a semi-official "Pepsi Convoy" character in the transformers universe said to be created from the same metal as Pepsiman.

That part towards the beginning with Pepsi Man on the board looks eerily similar to the first part of City Escape in SA2. I'm assuming that's a giant ass coincidence, because this game couldn't have ripped off SA2 because it obviously came before, and I kinda doubt Sega would rip off such an obscure game.

My younger sister legitimately had a dream about a VR Pepsiman game. I feel like this is something that needs to happen now.
Holy shit, I remember playing this game a couple months ago for shits and giggles, because I thought it was gonna' be absolutely terrible. I finished it, sure, but I haven't drank Pepsi in god knows how long. I'm not even joking, there is not a single sign of Pepsi in my house.
I was left rather bewildered by this game.

Why is it nobody who plays this game knows how to dash. Jon and cr1tikal both thought that jump was unclearable
That's because the game never tells you about the dash move. I don't have the manual for the game, just the physical disc, so presumably it's in there, and that's honestly the only way you could ever know about the move normally. Only reason I knew about the dash move was because someone mentioned it in the chat, but you have to be moving a bit first before you can dash, which is why that jump in Stage 2 got me a couple of times.
I have to say, you do show a great pepsiman aptitude. I'd love to see you play it again. And I'd forgotten the game never tells you how to dash because I'd picked it up myself, probably accident. You can really shave a lot of time by spamming it.
