    Thank you, we just purchased our mini and thankfully she was not far away. Parents were on site , she provides health testing, she also screens the individuals who are purchasing, we were able to meet her and see the pup. We couldn’t touch her yet ( she was only 4 weeks old ) and needed her completed vaccination. We will get her at 8 weeks ( Feb 10th ). She also said for any reason we couldn’t keep her to bring her back to her. Not to ever give her to anyone else. We will also receive all papers. Great video, we made the right choice .

    Thanks for the video! Do you think it matters if the pups are akc vs asdr registered? Or does it not matter which they’re registered with as long as parents are genetically tested and pup vet checked?

    • @dreamgaits
      @dreamgaits  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No it does not matter. The most important thing is getting a dog with dna testing for diseases. Most AKC dogs were ASDR dogs first. The book is still open and you can register an ASDR dog AKC if you want. One thing to watch out for is AKC allowed full sized Australian Shepherds to be registered as minis to bring "breed type" into the breed, so some AKC "minis" are upward of 50 pounds. Be sure you know what sizes the parents are and if standards are in the background.

    I've corresponded with a seemingly wonderful breeder in my "region" (state) over the past few years...she doesn't vaccinate her puppies as she prefers that your/my vet take care of that. Would that be an issue? She also leaves the tail and dew claws intact (I prefer having a tail which is how I found her)...do the dew claws cause any issues? Though I recently fenced my yard, I love your suggesting of using pens since there are areas I'd not want them to get into. Thank you!

    • @dreamgaits
      @dreamgaits  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. If your breeder vaccinates her mother dogs or does titer tests I would not consider it an issue provided you are getting your puppy before 12 weeks old. Just my opinion. Honestly, I would not vaccinate mine at eight weeks but people expect it. They should have good immunity from their mother until about four months of age but that varies so vaccines start at eight weeks at least that is the theory. I would MUCH rather get an unvaccinated puppy from a healthy mother than a puppy that has had two or three sets of shots by eight weeks. Rear dews need to come off. If your puppy has rears they need to come off at three days. I would insist on that. If they don't you can have them removed at the time of spay or neuter but it is a much bigger deal and is going to cost you $$$$.

    I have a 8 year old toy/ mini aussie, mom was mini, dad toy. Did a DNA test and only aussie in him. But he's super short, but has more hair than any aussie I ever seen. Looks simular to one you are grooming, except he's a red tricolor. I know bad, but I was having groomer take his top coat off to, in my thinking help him in summer, but I realize now that is bad. So I have no idea what to do to get coat that whispy coat, my boy has a super dense thick, beautiful coat, but is wayyyy too thick(like a Husky) my friend has a husky and is very simular coat in how thick it is. I know all the dogs the breeder I went to look like they have the more normal coat, he just got the super dense DNA. Might be to toy/mini mix, I dunno. So what do I tell groomer or what should I do to thin coat a lot. My channel has a short to show how thick his coat is, I didn't post it for that, but least shows him, it's much more hair now. Funny thing is, my aussie is the most laid back, doesn't bark at other dogs, doesn't like to play ball or play with other dogs, perfect couch dog, I know most are not like that. I have another mini aussie and she is hyper, herds dogs, barks, plays ball, totally opposite. DNA test showed he has that mrd1 Gene, people need to be aware of that to not use something like ivermectin, can kill the dogs with that Gene.

    • @dreamgaits
      @dreamgaits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rotwiler, I saw the short of him in the car but could not tell much about his coat. Looks to be well bred, probably show bred, like my Shelby very thick coat. They come in all kinds of coats. It's ok if his coat is thick. You can have the groomer rake out a lot of the undercoat, leave the top coat. They can blow it out and rake it out and use a blade rake, but have a groomer do it. At least 4 times a year would be my suggestion. Do not let them cut the top coat. Beautiful dog.

    I just got a puppy and I found it odd that the breeder did not ask us any questions about our lifestyle and also gave us full registration (not limited) but he checked other boxes like a “complete satisfaction guarantee” in writing. He said to me if for any reason you don’t want the dog bring it back here. I didn’t ask to see the parents but I saw the sire on his website. I wish I would have seen this video sooner and asked more questions. I just assumed since the dogs are AKC registered he was legit. Is that not necessarily the case?

    • @dreamgaits
      @dreamgaits  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Trick Biscuit, Thank you for reaching out. Many puppy mills are AKC. AKC is simply a registry like any other. It just happens to be the biggest. They do have an inspection policy and require studs to be DNA tested. I have nothing against AKC, but many people think if a dog is AKC it is somehow better than if it cam from other registries. You can find AKC dogs in pet stores and all petstore puppies come from puppy mills. I am glad you found the video, but too bad after the fact. I hope you have many wonderful years with your puppy. I have tons of puppy training videos so I hope you will subscribe and join our pack. Also feel free to ask questions. You did not mention what kind of puppy you got.
