Always interested in anyone who went to my alma mater, Cornell, even if it is only to the medical school (in NYC, far from Ithaca). Dr. Randolph "Randy" Charlton indeed did become a psychiatrist and set up his practice across the country in Palo Alto (CA).
Palo Alto is the home of Stanford University which in many ways was modeled after Cornell when it was founded 35 years after Cornell came into existence. In fact, Dr. Charlton is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Stanford in addition to his private practice. After graduating from Cornell Medical School in 1970 number one in his class, he did an internship at the University of California (San Francisco) School of Medicine before establishing residency at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
He is introduced as being from Connecticut, so his career out west took him far from home. As an undergrad he was closer to home, attending Wesleyan University, Class of '66.
In response to one of the clues, he said "sex" and Allen Ludden remarked that it is something that is often on the mind of a psychiatrist. Dr. Charlton eventually edited a book titled "Treating Sexual Disorders".

It's so charming when the G-T gameshow members cross-reference one another... Arlene allegedly "pulling a John Daly", haha!
