    Speaking to driving culture in America…our towns just aren’t set up for driving. Its downright dangerous to bike in my city. So many hit and runs. I say this having lived in Europe where many places are walkable/bikable. But your video was very helpful-thank you!

    Thank you so much for helping our family choose a bike trailer. Our goal is to cycle often as a family for a healthier lifestyle and more quality time together. I’m very pleased with our Swinn Joyrider! Would you recommend helmets be worn while riding in the trailer or is that parent discretion? Our main riding areas will be paved bike paths and occasionally through our town for errands. Our kids are currently 2.5 and 1.5 y.o.

      1970s urban sprawl zoning and coding is really to blame. Most high demands best places to live in the US are mixed zoning areas. We are slowing trending towards this however.

    • @cwr8618
      @cwr8618 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Mike-gz4xn meaning, we really can't blame anyone but ourselves. But I do agree, our building zones and public transit make it difficult. With so much remote work options now, people have less of an excuse. I think it boils down to people just wanting to be comfortable and have 100% independence every where they go. That's just not sustainable and it's not a coincidence either that the US is a huge fat body country. We're growing lazier and more whiny by the day.

    Thoughts on the Burley Encore X? Just picked one up. $600, so quite a bit cheaper than the DLite X, but still seems like a good option and still has suspension and a double seat. Thinking about the stroller conversion kit as an add on in case that come in handy.

    This vedio is super super informative, and what I was looking for. I have a baby aged 7month. It seems to be too young to start with a trailer, but we are giving it a try.
    Our bikes are bromptons, and a trailer we are in the market is Thule Chariot Cross(might Lite) with a baby seat which is also by Thule, but due to the smaller wheel size of brompton(16’’), the trailer must be a bit leaning forward. In this context, there are two questions.
    1) Do you think it’s too early to start with 7month baby?
    2) do you think Thule Chariot Cross is the best option for the infant?
    Thank you!

    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO. I live in Chicago and haven't owned a car for 11 years, however now that we have a child, I think it's time to get the family cargo bike. However, I don't like the drivers, some of y'all can't drive! He's already too big for a seat at 2.5 years old. Is there something you would suggest, we don't have a budget for this. I just want something that's safe for the street.

    • @BikeGrowRich
      @BikeGrowRich  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Megan, if you're on a budget under $300, I would recommend the Burley Bee. It does not have stroller conversion, but it's a really solid choice. If you bike a lot, you'll like how lightweight it is compared to other options. If you need a stroller conversion, I would go for the Schwinn Joyrider. That's almost $500 trailer, but with the amount of biking your family does I would recommend seeing it as an investment.

    • @MaiNurKoizumi
      @MaiNurKoizumi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BikeGrowRich thanks! No we don't have a budget. Since we don't have a car, we can swing a lot in the name of "something that is safe for Chicago city streets". I'm a stroller nerd, I can tell people about all the weird things about them. From design flaws to risks with every brand. Some people like cars, I'm a stroller nerd. I did the digging on the chariot lite and the chariot cross, like it but at 1200 I wanna make sure I'm not making the wrong decision. I'm only kinda familiar with bike trailers as they aren't always strollers. We will be new to biking, but I think it would be better than using a stroller wagon or slow long hauls for school and groceries. We almost considered flying to Japan to buy a bike and gear and come back as it would be cheaper than buying equal stuff in the US.
      Yea it's a bit extreme, but research is my thing 😅😅 I've never used a bike trailer, but this is probably going to be a "til it dies" use, so price is not a question, it's just "is it safe enough." I'm lucky enough to be able to say that, but that's the reality.
      Thank you very much for all and any help. It's a relief to see someone is as critical and thoughtful about this subject as I am. The world needs more parents like you with this kind of down to earth assessment.

    I’d love to see a comparison between a cargo bike like the Yuba and a trailer or the double child seat setup. I’m really tempted… but the $2k+ cost of admission is quite a commitment.

    • @pjabouchard
      @pjabouchard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a yuba and I absolutely love it. I bring 3 kids on it almost daily, I installed a Thule yepp mini in the front for my youngest and have 2 kids on the back, it’s super manoeuvreable and slim and easier to manage in tight spaces than a bike trailer, but I also live in the city and am often on one way streets with parking on both side and lots of traffic so those are really important features for me. Also a trailer didn’t work for me because I have a special needs child and he couldn’t manage being “so far” from me while biking and didn’t really understand what was happening in the trailer so it just didn’t work for us.

    • @jbpriede
      @jbpriede 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pjabouchard same feeling for me with the trailer. Also I don’t like how all my sand and water from my rear wheel sprays the trailer. I ended up with a Babboe from Netherlands for now; will probably move to a Yuba once I’m confident both my kids will hold on for the ride with no chance of falling asleep.

    We only need a burley Bee single as we only have 1 child (2nd child is older and rides her own bike). The double is at amazon as a warehouse deal for $305 Canadian compared to $479.99 for the single. My concern is only having one child in it. We used to have a baby jogger switch back, and it was a double, but designed in a way where a single rider, could ride in the middle, but it seems the burley bee double does not have that option and the child would have to sit on one of the sides. But at $305 for "Used, like new condition" from Amazon Warehouse, it seems like too good a deal to pass up compared to getting the single.

    Hi there!
    Thanks so much for this video and all the other ones you share you’re a legend! I’m currently trying to decide which bike trailer is best for my 15 month old and my 3 year old and my main issue is that most trailers don’t recline (I want them to seat and nap as comfortable as possible) and the ones that recline are super pricey! In Australia they’re around the $1700-1800 range and up. Which would you say has the most comfortable seating? What's your take on the older version of the Thule Chariot Cross, the 'Cougar'? I'm trying to decide whether to get it, because it's slightly cheaper than the Cross, but I cannot find any direct comparison between those two.

    • @BikeGrowRich
      @BikeGrowRich  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, they are pretty much the same except in a few areas. For example, I believe the Cougar only comes in single-seat options, and also I'm pretty sure that the wheels don't turn upside down on the stroller when converted to a stroller. Other than that, I'd say go for it. I personally like the Schinn Joyrider more than the Cross and Cougar (because of the cool metal cage), but Thule would be a solid option too :)

    • @andreallridge1695
      @andreallridge1695 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Cougar is available with one and two seats, but the wheels upside down thing is really neat, so if that's only a feature of the Cross, then the Cougar's out. I did look up the Schinn Joyrider, bu it seems to be really difficult to buy some areas and I didn't see a two-seat version of it, which is a feature that I am definitely looking for.

    I have one baby he is 15 months old and I want a trailer to take him out but I cant find a one seater that is also a stroller as well. Most of trailer/strollers are 2 seater and I dont think I need it or if its even safe to carry one toddler in a 2 seater.

    Thank you for this review! What do you think the max age is for these trailers? I need one for my 15 month old but I also have a 5 year old and trying to decide between double or single. Definitely need it to convert to a stroller and plenty of storage. Also looking for good ventilation. (I'm in Germany and it will get muggy in the summer)

    • @BikeGrowRich
      @BikeGrowRich  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Crisol, any bike trailer will hold a child up to around 6 or 7 comfortably (depending on their size). If you have two kids, I would definitely recommend a double-seater. If you're in Germany, the Thule Chariot Cross should be an available option for you: amzn.to/3sLMpym

    • @BikeGrowRich
      @BikeGrowRich  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, sorry for the late response! I personally do not like or recommend trailers that have the stroller wheel attached to the hitch arm like on the D'lite. I find it hard to push over bumps and curbs. I would much rather have something like the Schwinn Joyrider, Chariot Cross, or Hamax Outback for a stroller-convertible option. Just my experience and opinion.

      @@BikeGrowRich he could be asking because they have a stroller option that you purchase separately, but then give you the stroller option which is similar to the Thule strollers. The difference is that Thule covered with the two strollers wheels standard, asked not as an additional purchase.

      That's a tough call because the Minnow is a one-seater, but I would just try it and return if you can't fit it. It should def fit in a Burley Bee if it's a standard infant car seat.

    I owned an instep trailer. Oh man! Those are HORRIBLE! no no no !! oh God, NO!!! hahahha.. have I told you "no" yet? lol ... That trailer helped pushed me to get a Burley Honey Bee. I was like, "screw it! I need a real trailer stroller". Let me tell ya, these are AMAZING! No way! WHAT? I can't get enough of this trailer. Little people are not so litte anymore. So? I keep the trailer to run grocery runs. The honey bee is so good that I am considering getting a d'lite single to fit thru most doors, so I can "truly" be bike commuting (and ditch my car) for around town. Why? Cause you never know when you suddenly feel like a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop and God forbid they have a regular 30" door which the honey bee can not go thru (my beloved honey bee is awesome but a bit on the "wide" side). I will keep the honey bee forever, and pass it onto to my great grand children. lol Question, the Thule Chariot Cross, does it convert into a cargo trailer (for when little people aren't little anymore)?

    • @BikeGrowRich
      @BikeGrowRich  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, good to have you and hear your experience! The Chariot Cross can be used as a cargo trailer, for sure. If you are asking if they seats are removable, no they are not. But there is still plenty of storage in my opinion even with the seats intact. There is storage in the front, on the seats, and even in the back of the trailer. I'd say it's a good option if you're looking for a trailer/stroller/cargo trailer.

      @@BikeGrowRich thank you! that helps me decide actually. I believe the Burley D'lite Single Seater is what I want, for its cargo capability and turning into a strolling "cargo" cart. I know it's on the expensive side so, saving up for that. :) Thanks for letting me know.

    ???? Where is hamax? Its not good? Then thule chariot cross is beter then thule chariot sport or cab 2, what about ventilasjon? I know the thule lite there isn't, what about floor? What do you recommend soft floor or plastic floor? Which model i can use longer period, more years, where is more space for bigger children? I think in thule lite was 111cm tall children max, and thule cab was +3 cm. Which is more comfortable for one children, 1 seter or 2 seter?

    The current designs for child carriers are simply not safe. The rear tow trailers are very vulnerable to being hit from behind and offer zero protection to kids. At the very least impact absorbing materials and roll cages should be compulsory for child carrying trailers.

    The problem is that the better quality they are the heavier they are to lift. Fine if you're a big guy but tough for typical woman to lift. I'm only 5'2 115 lbs so I prefer the lighter and cheaper ones for my dogs. If it was for a kid I would buy a better quality. Many of those reviews may be from people who use these for dogs and not kids I bet.
